This is the first video in a series covering the basics of GNav for ATPL students. A lot of what you learn in GNav assumes that you are really comfortable with reading co-ordinates and interpreting them, so think of this video as a refresher to get you up to speed if you're feeling rusty.
This series of GNav Basics also includes:
Video 2: • GNav Basics 2: All Ab... . The Departure Formula
Video 3: • GNav Basics 3: Great ... . Rhumb Lines & Great Circles
Video 4a: • GNav Basics 4a: Conve... . Convergency (part 1): Earth Convergency
Video 4b: • GNav Basics 4b: Conve... . Convergency (part 2): Rhumb Line and Great Circle Convergency, & Conversion Angle.
As ever, if you've found this video helpful then I'd greatly appreciate it if you could give it a thumbs up - and subscribe to the channel if you're not already. And if you've got ideas for future videos, please leave them in the comments below.

Hi Tom! Just passed GNav yesterday and you were one of the reasons that happened. Thank you so much!

The DMS button is by far the most handy tool on gnav! It would’ve surpassed the usefulness of the CRP if that wasn’t mandatory on drift calculations and heading calcs!

Ah man that’s so frustrating. And it’s sad that there are different rules for what you’re allowed in different places. Keep it the same for everyone!

If you're doing the ATPL exams then you definitely should make sure you check out which calculators your exam board will allow. Not all calculators are allowed - I used a Casio fx-85gtx.

@@ATPLTips I'm not doing the ATPL exams but your videos are very helpful for a refresher. I did my PPL exams in 1996 and wanted to go over things again. KZbin didn't exist and everything was learnt from book or ground school lessons. Being able to learn in a more visual way ( your videos) is definitely a benefit.

Hey Tom, just wanted to say thank you for all the hard work you have put in while teaching the GNav subject. They were a great help to me and helped me loads when preparing for this exam. I have passed my last ATPL exam today, which was GNav and it was really mostly thanks to you and your style of teaching. Greetings from Lithuania. :)
