I just passed Gnav, Met, MB and PoF, And I seriously dont think i would have if it wasnt for these videos. Things that were complex and hard for anyone new to understand was made so simple, yet so well explained by @PilotEd. Thank you so much!

WOW! Why would nobody else explaining this convergency topic almost so perfectly like you!? The only think missing is you did not explain when do we add and when do we subtract the result from the rhum line when calculating the initial and the final great circle. Thank you!

Wow, I love the way it's explained! I'm starting my integrated ATPL in 2 weeks so I can see this being very handy! Any tips? I haven't studied in over 5 years and now have to study and sit exams on the 14 subjects in 6 months!
@PilotEd7 жыл бұрын
6 months! wow good luck, you dont kneed to be as anal as i was studying to pass, but all i would recommend is that studying the question banks doesn't really bring you the knowledge it will pass the exam im sure, but you wont know much after. try and get a general grasp at least of things, like in my videos ;) thanks fr watching and good luck!

So u draw a globe and make great circle lines on it as it was on a marcador map? Ok...

Hi guys. Great idea to summarise knowledge in videos. Doing ATPL course online. Course exam has a question: "On a polar stereographic chart where the Earth convergence between 2 points located on the parallel 60°N is 20°, the great circle maximum cross-track difference with the straight line joining the 2 points is: 9.2NM? 30NM? 40NM? 4.0NM?" where are some thread that people trying to solve same on www.pprune.org/archive/index.php/t-152293.html I figured out that: delta long = convergence / sin (60) = 23.1 Now if we draw parallel circle at 60N we will have its radius = earth radius X cos (60) = 3440 / 2 = 1720NM so now we have triangle: point at earth axis there small circle of parallel slice it, start point and mid point of the straight line. it has an angle 1/2 of the delta long = 1/2 23.1 = 11.55 now we can calculate a distance between point at earth axis and mid point of the straight line: R x cos (11.55) =1720 x cos(11.55) = 1685.17NM It gives us a distance between rhumb line and "straight" line: 1720-1685.17 = 34.83NM Now assuming that lengths are ordered in order: straight line, great circle, rhumb line. we can assume that "great circle maximum cross-track difference with the straight line" should be less then rhumb and straight and brings us to choice of 30NM. After I calc it I realized that it is not a straight underground tunnel. but straight line on a polar stereographic chart. Still can't find a good answer.
