This didn't start out as a "So you want to..." video, but having heard from CMDR Nyao that these behemoths were duking it out, I figured now would be as good a time as any to give a demonstration on how to drive one of these monsters off. (plus they looked INCREDIBLE jumping in against the rings.) So, that said...
Hello again new pilots! MrMyu here with some more advanced problem solving. Got a great big cap ship menacing your home system? Got a Major Power getting adventurous in your back yard? Maybe you just don't like that monster warship hovering over your favorite tuning shop? Well here's how you fix THAT little problem in a hurry.

What kind of incredible shields do you have? They should be gone in seconds, if a capital ship takes you in its sight, yet you sit there firing at the heat relay and the impacts drum on your shields and nothing happens. I'm flying high grade engineered prismatic shields with two high grade engineered boosters in a Python and still if I get fired at by an elite vulture and two eagles they're down in seconds with 4 pips on.

I'm running 5C bi-weaves with thermal resistant engineering, and 5x shield boosters: 1x thermal, 1x heavy duty, and 3x resistance augmented. They don't have the raw megajoules of other shields, but they are EXTREMELY good at shrugging off large percentages of damage.

I know this video is old and things have changed (game wise) what are you using to fly. Your movements are so smooth and clean. Also can you share your engineered fdl setup?

I use HOTAS to fly. Back then I was using a TM warthog, but you don't need that. The Thrustmaster FCS throttle is amazing. The T16000m stick is... okay, but it runs out of buttons. I also use rudder pedals instead of the twist on the stick. Used the twist for fore/aft thrusters when I used it. The engineering's changed a bit since then, but here's off the top of my head: Grade 5 dirty/drag drives Charge-enhanced distro w/capacitors Shields were thermal-resistant Shield boosters were a mix of heavy duty and resist-augmented. 50/50 there The 4x medium multis were overcharged with thermal rounds The huge multi was overcharged with corrosive

It's been a bit, but I was running all of the multicannons on grade 5 overcharge. The mediums were thermal, but if I had to do it again I'd go to autoloaders. The huge is corrosive. The engines are your standard dirty drive tune, the shields are thermal resist and run resistance boosts, the shield boosters are the same, except one or two that were just straight up more megajoules.

Military grade armor with lightweight mod. 4x class 2 multicannons running grade 5 overcharged incendiary, and a class 4 MC running a grade 5 overcharged corrosive. Thrusters running grade 5 dirty drive tune, FSD with a grade 5 jump distance increase Power distributor is a grade 3 weapon focused mod Shields are class 5C bi-weave with grade 5 thermal resistant mod 3x A-rated Shield boosters with grade 5 resistance augment 1x with grade 5 thermal resistance 1x with grade 5 heavy duty B-rated KWS with grade 3 fast scan And I'm pretty sure there's a partridge in a pear tree somewhere around there too. Everything else like sensors and life support are tuned for lightness. It'll do 526 in the boost, the shields can take a beating, and I think I managed to squeeze 18 ly out of the jump drive.

When I'm recording, I use TrackIR 5 with the trackclip pro. It's a headset-mounted IR Send/Receive unit that I can program the sensitivity and smoothness on. It'll ignore the more jittery aspects of my looking around and offers a nice compromise between VR and fixed view. It's around $150 last time I looked on Amazon. Not cheap, but significantly cheaper than a VR rig. Otherwise I'm using a Thrustmaster Warthog stick and throttle with CH rudder pedals.

It really is. There is also the Tobii EyeX and related systems which are eye trackers rather than head trackers. Comparable price, even more convenient than head trackers. The catch for them is that they only work on monitors a certain size and under, and I'm using a converted 55" TV for a monitor.

Actors like William Shatner, Brent Spiner, BRIAN BLESSED, etc. It updates with the game, so it doesn't go out of date, which is nice.

Grade 5 dirty drive tune from Professor Palin on Maia. I swapped the drive into an Asp Explorer so I could make it out there before I died of old age. It's available on PC via steam, or the stand-alone launcher from Frontier Developments. There's a console version, but the latest update, Odyssey, is still unavailable on console, and "we're working on it" is still the most definitive answer they've given us. That said, the PC version is the most customizable, with tons and tons of 3rd party apps that can work alongside it. Like VoiceAttack, if you like giving voice commands to your ship.

That's a command. Programmed it in to Voice Attack to recognize that. I can also add "on my mark" for it to trigger once I say "mark". That way if I'm mass locked, or want to time an action just right, I can fire it off as I'm doing other actions. I also did it for coolness. Because flying a spaceship.

Takes about 2 Years if that's your primary focus. :P My Gallente Hauler was rated to fly Titans before they even came out. EVE Online got seriously dumbed down for skill training. My ship's close to the "best" rolls you can get, but I didn't map out each component for accuracy, so they're all identical "best" rolls rather than individually tweaked. I think I may run a video on it too in the very near future, but that's the short version.

I'm using a Fer De Lance here. 5x multicannons. The class 2 guns are running overcharged incendiary, and the class 4 is running overcharged corrosive. The reason I'm overheating is because incendiary multicannons generate a lot of heat, plus I'm running an overclocked power plant, so while I get more energy out of it, thermal efficiency goes down. Combined, it means that my guns run hot on sustained fire. I need to fire in shorter bursts, but sometimes I push them a bit. The ship can take it. Peculiarly, both types of ships can be seen right next to each other in the peladies systems, suggesting a temporary alliance for... whatever is to come in the coming months... There are so many capital ships wherever you go in the peladies.

The program is called VoiceAttack. (around $10 USD) You can set up the controls with just that, or you can get some AI response packs with a lot of stuff pre-programmed, and then you can modify the commands from there. HCS Voicepacks sells voice packs, but they're constantly being updated, and professionally voice acted (William Shatner, Paul Darrow, Brent Spiner, BRIAN BLESSED, etc)

That's a 3rd party program from Voiceattack.com. Works with windows in general, not just Elite. Perfectly fine, perfectly allowable. Frontier has actually said they'd like to work with the 3rd party developers more. In fact, HCS voicepacks are going to make some add-on missions using their software to tie missions together into a separate storyline, if I'm understanding their announcement correctly.

new the game on ps4 being playing for about 30 hours and made 9000 because my jump drive is so limited I can't jump to the most of the systems even if trying to multiple jumps because some of the close system are still out of range. Any tips on making money

Bounty hunting in a Resource Extraction Site, or High-Yield RES (avoid the hazardous ones) Make sure your cargo bay is empty, stick near the beacon, and look around for light fights. Fly in, ID which target is wanted, and help the cops finish them off. You'll get the bounty claim. I know there are resource sites in the rings of Asellus Primus 3, and it's one of the starting systems, so it should be relatively close to you. I put up a bounty hunting tutorial a while back. Sadly nothing. The cloud's just a byproduct of the jump. The ship's already gone, it's just that... whatever it is left behind.

If you know what you're going to fight, you can be ready. My shields were tuned for maximum thermal resistance. A mix of maximum megajoules, combined with something like 65% extra thermal resistance. Like water off a duck's back.

A quick checklist (Just to be certain) 1: Did you pick the Federal side when you entered the combat zone? (Menu 4, last tab, pick a faction.) 2: Is it possible any stray shots hit the Fed ship, or its allies? 3: Were you hovering around the ship's exclusion zone? Cap ships now have a no fly zone around them to prevent players from taking advantage of their guns. You get warned, and then you get fired on if you're too close for too long.

zon tarr well they already have but not in the warship itself. when they jump they release with them 11 fighters in a wing. and if they target you (they will) they will melt absolutely everything.

5C bi-weave shields with thermal resists. 3x shield boosters running general resistance mods, 1x running thermal resistance, 1x running heavy duty. Grade 5 dirty drive tune, boosted FSD, and the multicannons are 4x grade 5 overcharged incendiary and 1x overcharged corrosive (on the class 4)

Condas running all incendiary MCs (plus the class 4 running corrosive) is basically a ship melting machine. Plus you can run 30 ly if you engineer the drives, so it's like a rapid-reaction warship. Plus cargo hauling. Plus passengers. Plus rescue equipment. It's a swiss army broadsword.

You can get free voicepacks elsewhere, like Ripley Galactic's KICS pack, but I figured I'd go for the XL options :p

Voice control. There's a program you can pick up for like $10 USD called VoiceAttack. Sadly it's PC only, but you can use it in Elite, photoshop, video players, you name it. Customize the commands, adjust timings. The whole nine yards. Have a big enough sound library and you can also have it respond to you. You can also pick up pre-programmed voice packs for Elite or Star Citizen from a company called HCS Voicepacks with professionally-produced ship responses. CMDR Nyao's ship is currently voiced by John DeLancie, in full smartass mode.

Wouldn't a gunship with a lot of drumfire missiles be better for this? I mean it deals a lot of damage to unprotected targets and a lot of splash too, they are really good for shieldless easy to hit targets, which what a capital ship is

@@pongraczfarkasattila7357 I try to get back to folks most of the time ^_^ Back then Dumbfires would probably have been the way to go, since you could salvo them like crazy, but then the devs put point defense guns on everything, even if they don't register. (see outposts and facilities you're supposed to knock out generators or skimmers at) Now, the fire rate is a lot slower, PDCs are more prevalent and dumbfire missiles mostly seem to be carriers for the Grom Bomb modification that resets a FSD.

I with that you could destroy a cap ship rather than just drive it off. If you are doing that much dmg, then you should be able to blow it up. Like let me hit some critical components that cause a cascade failure.

I have to be honest, kind of underwhelming. I have yet to see a game like ED or NMS that actually gets combat with capital ships right. They don't move at all, they're just sitting right next to each other, they're not taking much visible damage despite unloading on each other, most of their weapons are just lasers that flash in sequence and end at fixed points, you can sit right next to them without getting obliterated. Where are the missiles and torpedoes? Where are the complex maneuvers and turning to present undamaged sides? Everything else in this game is so damn gorgeous I'm shocked that they couldn't make this look cool past the point when they jump in.

If I could ever figure out how in the world stealth builds could be sustainable I'd be a happy guy. Thermal vents probably... rig some kind of macro so whenever I pull the trigger it turns off silent running... hmmmm.

I have to say since the engineers have dropped shieldless builds are not as good but I kept my DBS for fun and use it for PVE silly attacks in CZ and RES's if you look on my channel I did take out a capital ship with it so it is possible to use and is just something different from the usual meta

I got an Imperial Eagle, two gimballed multicannons and a turreted beam laser, used the efficient weapon mods and engineered every bit to be efficient, less thermal load or low energy use (clean drive tuning for example). The rest I chose to be either light weight for maneuverability and speed (if it's not relevant for combat) or extra resilient (like hull reinforcements and armor) for better survival chances. When I drop out of supercruise I use to switch off everything I don't need and go for it. My Imperial Eagle is very maneuverable and can fly and fire for quite a few seconds in silent running until the heat warning kicks in and the moment I rig it for full power, it doesn't take long to cool down. Even takes a boost with all weapons firing, but then you can't fire for too long to avoid overheating. Still, it is very capable under silent running. the good thing is that I don't even need to operate the power distributor, it's engineered to be engine centric: I just leave full pips to engines and two for weapons - it won't ever run out of weapon capacitor. Maybe I could engineer it to be even more engine centric. With this sneaky fucker, an Elite Python is notoriously hard to crack, as it is quite maneuverable and packs a a big punch, a flock of regular Eagles are also hard to crack, but an Anaconda is dead meat, as you can outmaneuver and outpace it very easy and hide behind its drives most of the time. Same with imperial clippers. But behold once you get hit by a bundle of lasers... you always have to keep moving, and the turreted beam helps a lot in that respect. I love flying it, as it's a whole different game than flying a tanked Python, but the jump range is poor.

that weaponry on the big ship does not seem to harm a (and your) single ship much, more like pretty fireworks, those things should vaporise a single ship in seconds, at least then it would come across as genuine menacing...now they seem very underpowered, given their size and class of weaponry they got.

Thanks, I'll check them out. Loved the speed on it. My atm ship is 299 and 399 boost yours was doing a lot more. Also are those cannona gimballed? I hate trying to line up non targeting weapons. Maybe as i learn to pilot better i can go high damage fixed weapons

Yep, they're gimbals. All multicannons too. The class 2 guns are all running thermal ammo, and the class 4 is running corrosive. So they'll tear up shields just fine without needing to switch to lasers.
