These trains were simply the best. When they ran on the East Coast Mainline they certainly eased preassure on other services and also the issue of the lack of seats. I was lucky enough to be invited into the drivers cab - its very cramped I have to say!

That would probably apply to most of the States wouldn't it? On my various travels in the USA in the last 10 years or so, albeit mainly searching out wildlife, I think I've only seen two or three passenger trains amongst a load of freight movements. One in the Miami area and one near Salt Lake City certainly come to mind but these were both short distant hauls.

I went on one of these once, I think it was 2001 ish. It was in GNER livery but the interior was still eurostar yellow and grey. It was a very quiet and comfortable train. Shame we dont see them round here anymore.

Here are some possibilties. The pantographs were for high speed line use which the wireing on the ECML was loose so the trains were only limited to 110mph to avoid overloading the overhead electric lines supplies. On the London to York and Leeds services, the door opening and closing times took longer than the Intercity 225s. the reason why the GNER Eurostars were limited between London to York and Leeds was because of the long platforms and also the speed restriction.
@banjokitten13 жыл бұрын
From the angle of when the first one you filmed arrived at Peteborough, it's easy to see why the doors were painted red - the are very camouflaged!
@HSTsteven16 жыл бұрын
No these were introduced initially to york, however there french pantographs at speeds over 110 would bring the cheap OLE down, it was later found south of Grantham they could do 125, so limited to 110 HSTs and 225s could beat them, so GNER got more HSTs
@railandmodel16 жыл бұрын
They 1st worked to York & later they ran them to Leeds.If you want more proof my Girlfriends dad worked for GNER on one of the stations on the ECML as a station platform supervisor.He once told me that one of these sets got vandalised with graffiti.So they ran one set for a bit half in Eurostar livery & the other half in GNER livery.If you want i do have some photo's of a GNER livered Eurostar at York which I could scan & send to you.Cheers.
@jontownsend64517 жыл бұрын
Having ridden on these back in the 2000's they looked great, and still do. Now several sets are being scrapped, i would've engineered the locos with new traction equipment which is a bit more savvy on power and used them on the ECML again. To my knowledge the route is cleared as far as Newcastle and Leeds for these 373s. I would also run them has half sets, just as the NOL sets were designed for.

Talk about seized calipers! They haven't been scrapped, they are currently in France and the contract was renewed this year quite recently.
@HSTsteven16 жыл бұрын
No when they were first introduced they ran to york, i know because i went on one specially, it lest Kings Cross at 1230 one of the. but after a while leeds was decided as a better terminus because of platform lengths, and linespeeds after doncaster are that of 110 (the white roses top speed) not 125
@wellowvids16 жыл бұрын
Sure - but this is how most enthusiasts referred to them!
@acesigma0616 жыл бұрын
yes Walrus was right they were called the "White Rose" this was the official name for them used at GNER. And HSTsteven is also correct, originally the White Rose services ran to York, but after the extension of Leeds station they were able to accomadate these longer trains, so they ran to leeds until there demise i know because i worked for the company when they went to both York & Leeds

There's talk, or has it progressed further than that, of a north-south high speed line in California isn't there?
@movieman16216 жыл бұрын
Its not actually called a GNER Eurostar because Eurostar is the name of the company not the train its actually called a GNER class 373
@Cpr12346 жыл бұрын
It was sometimes referred to as Eurostar Regionals, because their GNER services to Leeds are fairly short compared to the 186mph trips to Paris
@soundseeker6316 жыл бұрын
Back in France and on the eurotunnel. Nice as they were it was a bit of a waste of the train's capabilities running them on the ECML, especially as they were restricted to 110mph, where even the regular class 91s are 125mph running.

hey, be grateful for what you have, here in california the top rail speed is under 70 mph, passenger trains share tracks with freight, and those tracks were poorly constructed and are poorly maintained

Since when did GNER own eurostars and where did they go from and to?
@DanTheCaptain10 жыл бұрын
As I am aware these are used also by Eurostar I have a few questions. How fast do they allow these trains to go? What routes did they operate?
@SiVlog19899 жыл бұрын
When they were leased to GNER they were used to enhance their London to York, latterly Leeds, services. On the ECML they were restricted to 110mph Max. This apparently was because of problems between the pantographs and the overhead catenary. When the lease ended the GNER 373's were transferred to the French state railway SNCF, which is where you'd find these particular trains today. These GNER sets were designated 373/3's and unlike the 373's that operate the services to and from Paris and Brussels, which have 18 coaches and 2 power cars, these had 14 coaches and 2 power cars.

Class 373 in G N E R livery, with four standard class coaches at the back and front of the train, a Euro Star has five standard class coaches at the front and back

funding has been approved for that, and it is currently in planning, but they won't start work on it until 2011, it won't be done until at least 2020, our state government is extremely inept, especially when it comes to public transport, and the proposed system is something this state should have had years ago
