Thank you for sharing. I'm about to start on this journey too. I retired my old 6T because the sound/microphones were somehow bad (complaints from callers) and I was never able to properly resolve it, but it's still perfect for a project phone and it could very well have been a software issue from my frequent ROM flashing. Would love to have KDE on my phone with all the open source programs I love.

How about camera quality? Does it support the same camera (picture) quality as the original pre installed oem app? And van I use a droid apps on them?

The camera isn't working currently, so we won't know until it is implemented. You can use android apps if you install Waydroid (kzbin.info/www/bejne/hF60YZZpnt5ga8kfeature=shared ; same process on GNOME mobile)

@@naturegreene9579 I think the problem right now is the connection between postmarketOS and the hardware, so even with a camera app, it needs some work to connect to the hardware.

What if you install an image viewer and launch the screenshot from the command line? Maybe the tool works but, there is an issue with file association.

My redmi note 7 phone is not fully supported I think, how could I contribute to full compatibility? Is there a little bit of reverse engineering? Do i need to learn Java? (I have java lol), I want to learn C, Rust, Go and many system's programming language, that could help? Could you give me a couple of clues on how to write drivers? Thanks uwu

Thanks for the questions. Sorry I don't have expertise on writing drivers or too much of the coding involved with pmOS. I have seen some code written in C though. Bash script, and other languages would probably help as well. Yikes. That sounds troubling. Which device and version are you flashing? I found the edge version to have more issues. Conversely, try the version that you didn't before.

Virtual keyboard doesn't work on certain apps, such as if you try to login online account, it doesn't popout

@@CyberPunkEdu I have to enable always keyboard onscreen and use a mouse to click in order to see the osk. It seems like the Wayland doesn't know the touch input event in those particular apps. PureMaps is another one, search click doesn't trigger the osk

@@CyberPunkEdu I used on both Librem 5 and pinephone, but those two are well supported by the os out of all phones, if those two won't work, I think all other phones will have the issues.

If you check the device pages : wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Devices , you can see what's working or not (click on each device name and scroll down, on the right). Mostly don't have a camera working, and Xiaomi seems to have partial functionality only.

in gnome, is it possible to use non latin on screen keyboard already? last time i checked it was impossible, and that's a deal breaker.

It is possible, but the use of it is not ideal. For example, I was able to use a Russian on-screen keyboard by adding the input method, moving it "up" in priority in the settings then loging out and in again. However, this design is for hardward keyboards, so there is no easy way to switch between input methods with being able to set and press hotkeys on the keyboard. It may be possible to write a script for this, but by default there is no easy way that I can see.
