If you're looking at any signal from an academic perspective, there is still plenty to learn even if at a higher level the information is encrypted. It's good practice to play around with an appropriate demodulator, analyse various aspects of the signal to gain an insight into its construction, etc. You never know - you might even discover something new (e.g. a security flaw) that has thus far been unknown! :)

Balint, THANK YOU for making these tutorials available. I have a B200 that I use with OpenBTS but want to do more of the hardcore signal analysis like you did in that walkabout video of yours (San Fran Bay, Airport). Any and all material you publish is highly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is there any way to download the GRC files? That would be super useful. :)

Thanks for watching! To a limited degree you could, yes - a GSM channel is 200 kHz wide, which will definitely fit in the dongle's bandwidth. Just bear in mind that GSM operates on a odd time base (270.833 K symbols/sec with GMSK), and also that the dongle has a smaller (8-bit) dynamic range so YMMV depending on what you wish to achieve.

Hi Balint, thanks for your video. Could i ask how to add BORIP block at GNU radio? I am using GNU Radio companion version 3.7.12.0 at Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS. I can't find the BORIP at my GNU Radio. Could you or somebody assist me. Many thanks

Thanks a lot for the great videos. I have a question regarding Wi-Fi signals. Currently I am using the HackRF One as a receiver for the 5GHz band router, I want only to observe the behavior of the 5GHz, so is there a way to cancel out the noise and only pass the 5GHz band?

wouldn't analyzing gsm be useless because of encryption and the like?
