Go Further while Towing Your RV! // RAM 3500 Titan 55 gal Fuel Tank Install
⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️ CLICK SHOW MORE ⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️
✅ About this video:
In today's video, we are swapping out the fuel tank of our 2020 RAM 3500 DRW Limited. The stock 32 gallon tank is too small for how we like to travel. However, the Titan 55 gallon fuel tank will give us just enough to get where we want to be on travel day. Not having to worry about fuel every two hours while towing an RV is a game changer. RV life can be hectic and stressful, so anytime we can eliminate some of those stresses, we do it! We hope you enjoy this video and can't wait to get our Grand Design RV back! Safe travels!

Thanks! It’s nice to be getting our home back! The tank has been a great addition for sure. I wish I could get the gauge and distance to empty calibrated but I also didn’t have a lot of time to call around. If you find something, let us know! Best part, I didn’t have to put something in the bed of our truck.

I put a Titan 66 gallon on my GMC and love it. I have the TSD card and I love that I can get diesel cheaper. This tank has actually saved me money because I can go further distance and have options to get diesel or not. We still stop to stretch our legs but we stop at rest stops which are easier to get in and out.

I tow a 24' bay boat from NC to the Florida Keys a couple times a year, towing with Ram 3500 crew cab long bed. First trip, once I got into South GA and Florida on 95, the truck stops seemed to be harder to find. Been looking at S&B which offers a 60 gal tank for my truck, that should cut me down to one fuel stop between NC coast and Marathon Fl.

When I bought my truck that was the 1st thing I did was put a Titan 62 gallon tank in a 2015 3500HD long bed and my last truck 2006 2500HD Standard bed had a 55 gallon Titan in it best thing ever. with the 3500HD i go 1200 miles when not towing the 5th wheel and around 550 miles towing so I drive to a night spot and un-hitch and go get fuel makes it easier.

Our Titan tank has performed great. It’s awesome being able to travel and not worry about fuel. The 55 gallon is a beast, I can only imagine 62! That must be great! The TSD card WAS great, and still great for those preferring only big rig stations when towing. Here in the NE, I can find diesel all over cheaper than the truck stops with using the TSD discount. In talking to a stop manager, he believes it's the result of how many fuel cards got into RVers hands. Right now at Loves here if I use the card it just takes it to the price of Pilot/FJ across the road! If I travel 800 feet down the road, Sheetz is $0.11/gallon less than Pilot/FJ and easy to get in and out hitched.

We just started using the TSD card. With a 45’ fifth wheel, I am cautious as to which parking lots I attempt. I also like the added convenience of being able to pay outside at a truck stop. Otherwise, I have to walk in and waste more time and most likely end up buying something else. Thanks for the info!

@@1StrangeAdventure Totally understand! Between our 39-foot Solitude and my 46-foot gooseneck hauler I feel you! Some info for you. I pulled a 40ft Carriage, Carriage, built by Carriage in 2008. I use to pull the rig with a 2016 Ram (14,000 GVW) 4:10’s. Pin weight average 4400lbs. Air Safe Hitch and 75 gallon Transfer Flow bed tank with Traxx3 transfer system. Full fuel, 110 gallons, CGW 29,880LBS. Truck with two, 9860lbs. Trailer is the rest. Running in 6th, 63-64 mph 9.0 like yours. Running in 5th 10.1 mpg sometimes a little more. That would be about 64 mph at 2200 rpm. Engine has less load in 5th. 2200 rpm is what it would be if you had 4:30’s in 6th gear. Trucks GVW varies between 14,300 and 14,600 depending on water load. Vertical max load on hitch (5000lbs) still have the Ram, but now tow with a Cat Powered SuperCruizer 650. (14,350lbs fueled) Ram handled the trailer great. It was as good or better in some respect than the Class 6 truck. I’m on the road April through November and stay south of I-10 in the winter at The Great Outdoors in Titusville Florida. So, might see ya on the big road, never know.

Interesting Dodge OEM for 3500 series DRW only installed a 30g tank. That's what my 09 F250 had on it stock OEM. Now we have a '17 F350 King Ranch DRW and its stock OEM tank is 50g with 48 useable. Glad you got ti swapped out. Enjoy that range. Consider deleting your emissions as well to improve your hp and mpg. We did on our 09 F250 KR and wow.......the performance was killer and my towing mpg's were in the 15gph range. Not towing 18-20 mpg for that 6.4L powerstroke. Personally I can hardly wait to strip the DEF and EGR emissions on this F350 that we have now. We are also adding a 5 tune easy link tuner to it. I'm excited to see how it performs once it's done. Something for y'all to consider since you are traveling full time.

@@1StrangeAdventure Ok, the last word on the fuel gauge problem. I contacted Alexey at AlfaOBD and explained the symptoms I was having with the fuel gauge. He got back to me and had me set the value of "VehConfig3 - Fuel Capacity" to 194.000 liters. That did the trick for the analog gauge reading empty. I then asked if there was a max value for that setting. He got back to me that there is a maximum. 255-36=219 liters. He didn't indicate what the 36 is for, but that accounts for about 9 gallons. 219 is 57.85 gallons, so close enough to the real tank capacity of almost 62 gallons. When I tried the max value, the analog gauge went to zero again. After trying multiple numbers, the largest one is the one Alexey suggested, 194.000. So I guess that's it. That accounts for 51.25 gallons. I ways short of 62, but I will live with that. What other choice do I have?

Alpha OBD program does allow you to change the tank size. Sheep app but does not work on IOS. That program lets you change, add or delete a lot of things on the Rams. You will likely need a bypass for it to work on your truck. All in for the app, the Bluetooth dongle for the OBD II port and the bypass you will likely be in for about $150-$200 but once you have it you can do so many other things on your truck instead of having to go to the dealer.

WARNING THESE BURP!! I have one of these installed on my 2500 HD GMC Sierra, when you are filling it will burp or backflow diesel if your not paying attention. Just fyi it works great but wanted to warn folks. I get 12 to 15 when towing a 12k toy hauler so this has extended my range out to 500 miles comfortably. It also fits in the stock location so you don't lose bed space. Also disconnect the negative terminals then drive to empty then fill full then drive to empty. You have to do this at least twice to calibrate it. Titan does not tell you this for some reason. But the computer will adjust if done properly. DON'T DO THIS INSTALL BEFORE A TRIP CALIBRATE WHEN LOCAL SO YOUR NOT CAUSING COMPLICATIONS TO YOUR COMPUTER/ECM. I learned that the hard way.

Hello. We will definitely keep an eye on it! I haven't had it burp or back flow on us yet, thankfully! I'll have to look up the suggestion and see if it is applicable to RAM. Not sure why, but RAM decided they wanted to be more complicated than the other trucks. I appreciate the info!

I’ll have to call around. The one I called wouldn’t do it. We just started using the TSD card. I like that is also saves time by not having to go inside every time!

@@1StrangeAdventure I love the TSD Card, you just have to look for the best discount, which is almost a TA/Petro. I run a 100 Gallon tank in my bed and have the 35 gallon factory tank.

@@w4gle1963 thanks for sending this. Seems easy but it’s on a Ford. I’ve found a couple of them for Ford now, but not for RAM.

For those who have done this, does it void your warranty? We have a 2020 GMC Denali gas but are trading it in for the diesel.

Interesting question. I believe a modification has to be proven to have caused the malfunction when it goes in for warranty work. I could be wrong though.

@@1StrangeAdventure thanks I’m not real confident that the dealership would know the answer to this question and sure don’t want to have any problems with a brand new truck. I’ll do some more research on this.
