Let’s break this down: The minute George found out Manny was alive, he was angry and resentful towards his mother, even if it was comedic relief for the show. Benny warned George constantly not to search for Manny because of the man he was. George denied because he wanted a real relationship with his father. Manny dies and asks George to not attend the service for a low and dirty reason. Benny was right the whole time.

I mean... you can’t expect George to just take Benny, who is notoriously for lying or only telling partial truths, at her word, especially for something as sensitive as this. Told Benny that he cannot stay in this marriage or house, they need to split, the constant fighting and negativity is not in their child’s best interest, they can figure out custody, visitation, child support, etc later on, but he needs to leave for the night. It doesn’t matter how crazy Benny was, be a man and suck it up for the sake and wellbeing of your child. You do not get a pass simply because you are afraid of the woman you had kids with

It's bad enough that George had to find out from his aunt Cecilia that Benny lied to him for years about Manny being dead but it would've been worse if he found out she murdered him. I'm surprised that nobody from child services showed up to take George away from Benny while he was still a kid. Although, I will say that when George punched Manny, it wasn't to defend Benny but because he was angry with Manny for leaving him to be raised by an uncaring, psycho bitch of a mother. @@nedrostram2360 This is honestly why George is one of my favorite characters in fiction. Period. Underneath all the jokes, his flaws shine alongside his strengths. You literally cannot have a good George Lopez moment without his flaws holding his hands with his better qualities. It's a consistent part of his character. They coexist perfectly with his personality, and that's what makes him work. He's a tragic character in a comedy and it works. The jokes speak for themselves, he has parental issues and a shit childhood. But moments like these illustrate how badly he had it. On several occasions, I almost forget George Lopez (the TV persona mind you) is a fictional character. He feels like a real human being. Very few if any other characters give me that vibe.

You know his dad, could've at least kept in contact with George up until he was old enough to understand why he left and lived far away and even come by to pick him up on weekends or holidays; he had the money so i don't see why manny didn't and that's the saddest part. My dad fought with and left my mom but that never stopped him from coming by and picking us up, If i remember correctly my dad and mom were arguing once about something over the phone i can't remember and my dad come to the front door rather kindly ( although pissed on the inside ) and asked to see me and my sister and we went to his home. Honestly despite Benny being a pain in the ass towards George, him standing up for her shows that he really loves his mom. I can't blame Benny raising him the way she did, try being over worked and raising a child alone. Unlike she threw him out and whatnot. Remember the episode where she got him the Mickey hat because she couldn't afford to take him to Disneyland as a kid, she just hides her affection. I can relate because my dad left when I was baby. He tries to be around but I don't expect much because of the abandonment I felt growing up.

Even though Benny's ways of parenting for George weren't very ideal, it did toughen George up. Now George is able to fend for himself against people as an adult, tolerate Angie's snobby family who always look down on him, and stand his ground when it comes to raising Max and Carmen. Manny may be right about Benny is a little off of her hinges, but Benny was the only parental figure he had in life.

When he was young his father was a blank space he could put all the love his mother never gave him. Now that he's reached this point of his life he's realized that love was never there. His father was a man who left him with a dangerous criminal mom. What sort of a father is that? By comparison she raised him and fed him and gave up her life for him. And he understands now that no matter how bitter he is over how bad she was to him, she the best mother he could hope for in his situation and she killed herself to be it. That counts for something. But damn that's a bleak life.

I related so much to those episodes due to me not growing up with a father figure, they were both great episodes with a powerful scene.
