Go Kart Racing, whether it's rental go-karting or crazy fast racing karts all rely on you being able to use your left foot properly, and master those tricky brakes. Press the brakes too hard and you'll lock up and spin like a top, too gently and you'll get overtaken by all your friends. It's seriously hard to master, but very satisfying once you get it!

Meaning you ruin the fun for the next person to use it and it puts the next user in danger. I know this because I used to frequent a track to practice 3 days a week after school and the brakes felt weird but it didn’t hinder my speed till the cable gave way after 4 laps and sent me through and under a barrier at 25mph. Use the pedals correctly but using one at a time please.

Also lean backwards to put more weight on the rear. Most rental karts only have brakes on the rear, so having more weight on the rear keeps the tires from blocking.

as a professional out door gokart driver (this is only for 2 stroak karts with a modern chassis) the best way is to be aggressive with petals, never ever ever breack while turning.
@whothebeast666
@whothebeast666 Жыл бұрын
Both you and this guy saying not to brake while turning, but that's typically how I get the kart rotated everytime? I've only used rental karts, so they're never fast enough to actually need to brake in a straight line, I just tap/jab the brakes occasionally to help turn into a corner.
@ispeedyy9995
@ispeedyy9995 Жыл бұрын
@@whothebeast666 ive only drivien outdoor karts so this might not work with rentals. when ever you brake into a corner (trail breaking as i call it) you dont allow the kart to rotate. this happens becuase gokarts dont have a dif on the rear axle causing that wheels to not roll at different speeds. to fix this the chassis on a gokart is made to flex so that you can lift the inside rear tire up off the ground and allow it to roll at a different speed. by breaking into the corner you stiffen the rear end and there for not allowing chassis flex or any type of rotation. this is further pronounced by most karts only having rear breaks. for rental karts my guess would be that you are experiencing a rear end lock up, where the rear tires lock from pressing the brakes to hard causing the rear end to swing around for rotation. this method is not quick as you loose momentum and with slow karts this is very hard to get back. edit: it’s probably that the indoor kart is so bad that it wont work properly. if youve got some time and money id recommend trying a real kart as they are so much fun to drive and can be really really fast.
@whothebeast666
@whothebeast666 Жыл бұрын
@@ispeedyy9995 I think you have a point that the rental karts are very different, but I'm not doing a full rear lockup. I'm just lightly squeezing the brakes and that kinda gets the pitch of the kart to the front to help me turn in. You're right tho that the karts are slow and hard to regain speed and if I brake in a straight line, I almost always scrub too much speed off and struggle to get it back. Also what kind of real kart do you suggest or what kart are you talking about?
@jerzygadzinowski1731
@jerzygadzinowski1731 Жыл бұрын
@@ispeedyy9995 No you know what is the thing indoor? The surface is a lot less grippy than on the termac, as most of the time indoor tracks are on smooth concrete like in a parking lots. With a lot less traction it is worth it to nearly lock the wheels or to smoothly trailbrake as this is the way to make the kart rotate into the corner.

Also, the reason why a fast sharp initial application of the brake pressure to the maximum braking potential at the beginning of braking is the kart will be at its least forward loaded balance at the start of braking, meaning the rear tyres have max grip potential and thus max braking potential at the start of braking. As braking force increases, maximum weight transfer off the rear tyres occurs which leads to a lower maximum brake force potential for the rear tyres so you have to lessen the brake pressure. So to absolutely maximise the total braking potential of a rear brake only kart throughout the braking zone, max peak brake pressure at the start (that you want to achieve practically instantaneously so you don’t waste/miss that highest braking potential at the start) and then a little bleeding off the max pressure to a slightly lower max pressure as the rear tyres become less loaded from maximum braking force reducing the load and therefore grip from the rear tyres. Hope that made sense. :P

It got to the point where near the end I was rammed really hard by that one person whos done it before and he lapped me twice while I was dizzy. Sadly most go-karts have sticky brakes so your better off not using them in some cases and just intentionally understeering instead It's when a small press or lock gets extended due to a bad linkage, meaning a small chirp becomes a complete stop before you can go again

I’m a professional outdoor kart racer, some tracks you don’t need brakes and for the tracks you do, just tap the brakes about 90% force so the kart starts to lock the wheels and spin but then let off and it will get you a faster turn In. It’s called trail braking.

@@jerzygadzinowski1731 Different preferences I suppose. I enjoy the idea that when people behind me start battling they gotta start using the brake and end up doing slower lap times. Even better is when I catch up to somebody and battle them and we both end up losing the guy ahead of us, because we are taking slower lines through the track battling. Then it's super fun to have to settle in a fast pace after passing to close the gap again.
