In Metal Gear Solid 4, you can actually use the Solar Gun from this game and you have to reload using sunlight, Old Snake even screams "sunlight"

It's actually the default gun from Lunar Knights. The "Sunlight!" call is also from LK, because in Boktai it was always "TAIYOH!!!"

Theres also a special in megaman battle network 5? Idk where you can go on a mission where you can use gun del sol to burn the enemies and solar boy Django comes in I forgot the details

It's so silly, I love it. I just wish it was the Gun del Sol design from Boktai and not lunar Knights.

I had a cool real life situation involving Boktai. I had gone to the park to play this game. To truly kill a vampire after defeating them, you have to drag the coffin they've encased themselves in outside to fully kill them with sunlight (Piledriver). Well, I was in a situation where I was racing against the clock to do this as the sun was starting to set. Really added to the immersion. Thankfully I was able to do it, but only just barely.

The Boktai series is the best. I wish it had performed better and the third game had released outside of Japan and the fourth game had kept its Boktai title when it released instead of being retitled as Lunar Knights. They even changed the character names from Django and Sabata to Aaron and Lucian

I remember getting this game in the winter. Being a dumb kid, and impatient, I ended up selling it to gamestop. The game was basically unplayable for me (where I’m from winters are cloudy and I got 1 bar at best outside especially with it being cold). Now I live somewhere where’s it’s basically summer all the time🤣

The only reason I heard of this game was because of Megaman Battle Network. There are some characters from the Boktai series that are referenced, mainly in Megaman Battle Network 4. Also one of the best chips in the game is the GunDelSol which summons Django and fires a ray of sunlight for massive damage. Great review!

The GunDelSol does I-Frame removing constant damage(and in 4 and 5, lasts as long as you hold A, or till their time limit) and the Django Chip in 5 summons him to punch a bunch of holes in the non-existent ceiling and then use Rising Sun on the Coffin'd Enemy and nearby foes, in 6 he uses the Coffin Bike from 3, and a special command code can make him do a sword slash afterwards

I’ve had this game and the sequel for years. It is a fun game. The solar sensor thing can be a pain in rump, though, because it doesn’t work on cloudy days and it doesn’t work through windows. Otherwise, the game is very fun.

If for some reason you can't go outside(or can't find the fracking game, super fucking rare now) or your sensor is borked or something, a guy by the name of Prof9 made a set of Patchs to allow direct control of the solar level in game for the trilogy, the third one also works with a translation patch
@Mar-O899
@Mar-O899 9 жыл бұрын
Awesome game, the sequels are fun also. They aren't quite as good but are easy to play as Boktai 2 has weapons that don't require sunlight and Lunar Knights doesn't at all(there is a solar gun but you find the sunlight in-game).

I have heard of this game before, definitely a unique game to say the least. Forcing gamers to go... outside?! :O Gasp! Hahaha. Seriously, I like that they were thinking outside the box with the concept of the game. But I'm kinda glad more games didn't follow suit with this idea. :P I do most of my gaming at night these days, so I would be in pretty big trouble against those boss fights from the sound of it. Haha. Great review!
@BawesomeBurf
@BawesomeBurf 9 жыл бұрын
RPGtourguide I was kind of opposed to the idea of plying outside at first, but the farther I got in the game, the more I wanted to go outside. But I am also glad that more games didn't do this, the uniqueness is part of this game's charm.
@syrelian
@syrelian 7 жыл бұрын
Prof9 has a set of Solar Patchs that let you directly control the solar level in game, and hey, it got 2 direct sequels and then the weird timeline mess that was Lunar Knights, which could use a GBA Boktai's Solar Sensor if you had it
@Majora_T
@Majora_T 9 жыл бұрын
Ahh, I get it, "light" RPG mechanics; that must've made for a hell of a time recording the footage though! I'm wondering if you didn't have to take the Gamecube on your walk with you outside. For real though, I don't think I've seen a game where the main player drags a coffin around before this. Excellent review of an interesting game!
@BawesomeBurf
@BawesomeBurf 9 жыл бұрын
Majora T Ah yes, the creator of the game was very "bright." :P Seriously though, a better camera with a more flexible tripod, or even just having someone with me to record would have made it a helluva lot easier. The coffin dragging is pretty unique, as are most of the ideas presented here, and they all work rather well.

Yay, one of my favourite games! Boktai is definitely the best in the series. Boktai 2 was meh, but still pretty good (in my opinion, It's many peoples favourite) and Boktai 3 is awesome as well. I didn't like Lunar Knights too much. Though the gameplay is good, the setting isn't western anymore, but 100% sci-fi. But I like how it tied into the Boktai series and explained why it's different. One question, though:How did you plug this game into your Gamecube GBA Player? It doesn't fit.

The idea is ambitious but sadly where I live we don't get much sunlight so I have to cheat and play the game with a blacklight. Sadly my blacklight is weak in terms of UV and my solar sensor only picks it up when the gameboy is literally on the light. Luckily there's rom's out there with patches that allow you to toggle the intensity of the solar sensor allowing yout focus more on the gameplay than fighting to find a good UV light source.
