Go Solo - You've Got This (Bikepacking Nepal by Jenny Tough)

Travelling solo is an incredibly rewarding experience, but it can be scary to start. I did my first solo bike adventure when I was 21, and while I had absolutely no idea what I was doing and broke down (physically, mechanically, emotionally, etc.) a lot, it was one of the most important growth experiences of my adult life.
This December I went to the Nepalese Himalayas on my Shand Bahookie for a solo adventure. It didn't all go to plan, but I had an amazing time. And it was still an important growth experience. It always is.

Jenny, you inspired me to start bike touring alone. Before i started i was watching your videos and dreaming for it. Since the end of June this year i have begun my tours. I am still dummy and my biggest one is only 70 km. But I will go on and one day i hope to achieve to make much longer and difficult trips. These trips develop your identity, make you stronger according to your body and mind. When you travel alone you have so much time to think over your life and make some important conclusions. Your eyes and mind are open. You are out of your comfort zone and it helps you to see the world from much more directions. Thank you, Jenny! It is so nice to be in touch with people like you!

Your videos were and continue to be a huge inspiration for me and have helped me through the nerves before the start of a trip and the rough patches during. I can relate to what you mean about "growth." I had my first solo backpacking trip at age 17, and yes, things fell apart, but I went back to finish it the next chance I had at 18. My friend introduced me to bikepacking at 21. I had my first solo adventure with the bike at 22 and another at 23. I hope that before my 24th birthday I'll get in another solo trip, and I certainly hope to visit Nepal and Kyrgyzstan and so the Silk Road within the next few years as well :) It is amazing how my comfort zone has expanded and the general confidence in myself solo adventures have 'given' me.Solo adventures really teach you so many things. Thanks for another lovely video!

Love it! You definitely inspire a lot of people including myself as I plan my first long distance ride across Canada in 2021! Not just to ride but to film it too. My first attempt was this past summer on a short ride though parts of Washington and BC. Being from the middle of Alberta though, I can only live vicariously through others during these long bikeless winters! And the quality of yours, it's hard to find good quality videos to watch! Done a wee bit of biketouring solo in Ireland & UK. Gearing up for longer and eventually a world tour. Repeated rhetoric of how females can't do this kind of thing solo is exhausting. Finding new female bikepackers is just so fantastic, inspiring and calming. "it's cool guys, look Jenny did it" You're incredible!

I've done numerous group rides ranging from 50 to 600 kms on all types of roads but this is at new level and will definitely try to do at least one solo ride this year of at least 500 kms. I turned 60 this past May. My trip to Mallorca with a touring company was cancelled. So I am going alone to do the Ohio Buckeye trail end of August. Never bike packed or ventured out on my own for this long. This was a wonderful inspiration and I wish to Thank you for sharing. See ya out there !
