5.INDEPENDENCE, this one really hits close to home. my uncle was a military man, and I lived in his house for about five years when I was 15 years old. at first I hated my uncle because he was too strict, but now I owe most of my discipline to him, thanks to him I'm not late to any place, thanks to him, I keep everything neat and clean. I would have liked to go to the military, but the game of being military where I come from is the worst.

Here in Switzerland you have military draft for young men, compulsory, 4 month recruit school, then about 8 months duty as a soldier. I can totally agree with this video, one point that was missed is the networking part of it, you meet a lot of different miltary people, during the military and during civilian life that open up a lot of possibilities and opportunities. For a lot of young people it is a good experience to start their adulthood with the skills that are taught in the military and If you live in a country with free democracy, giving something back to your country is a good thing, apposed to taking everything for granted. Many thanks for the commitment to educating and all the hard work that goes into this channel.

Mr. Bet-David, As a Canadian, we don't have the same military culture as you do in the United States so I cannot pretend to understand the draw of enlisting. It is simply not something that many Canadians even consider pursuing. I understand that many people join the military because it is often the best financial choice for them. My question is, as a well off person, would you like your children to join the military in order for them to learn these skills that you are pointing out, or are there other opportunities to learn these essential strengths elsewhere?

Yes, it is definitely possible to run a business while in the military. But keep in mind, your time working in the military will be time taken from tending to your business, and business will require more of your time as it grows. So if you are Active Duty it will be difficult and a strain on you, but if you can do it, more power to you. I would suggest joining the Marine Corps Reserves if you seriously plan on running a business online. Or even, if you're not deadset on the Marines (Which a lot of teenagers think they are until they see an Army/Navy/AF Recruiter), joining the Army NG or Air NG as inactive reserve.

On a 4-6year contract you will be working for the military for only those 4-6 years BUT you will still be in the military for 2 more years and be required to be drug free and capable to be recalled into service if you are needed. Basically for 2 years after your 4-6 years are done, you are still on the leash but you can basically forget about the military because the only time theyll recall you back into service is if theres a war and they need people, basically WW3.

It depends. It's like asking how long is a piece of string. If you want to join to be a fighter pilot, it's very hard. If you want to join to be cook, working in the "chow hall", it's easy if you get the minimum score for the AF in the ASVAB test and finished high school. There are many jobs in the AF. You can even be signer! But whatever you do, don't join to be an aircraft maintainer unless you like working 12-14hr days in the rain, extreme cold or heat while you're being rushed. I've been in the game for 11 years as a maintainer. So I know a few things here and there.

He acts like people won't experience teamwork and diversity in college or when they finish college. The military has a mix of academics and hands on, and so does going to college to be a nurse, doctor, engineer, lawyer. He shouldn't paint college with a broad stroke. Every different degree is going to be a different process

I disagree with Patrick. There are many things you can learn in the Military that are (non-unique to the Military). I will give you a better approach to both college and military. I made a mistake right after 9-11. I joined the Marines and while in boot-camp I realized things were not going as promised so long story short I got out. Thank God I was wise enough at 19 and missed the longest most stupid war ever waged by the US. But dont make my mistake, instead go to College and get a career that has both military and civilian uses. After college you can join any branch as an officer and believe me officer training is far superior than enlisted members; is like a community college 50 years ago vs. Stanford business school 2017. You will find yourself enriching both your career, your business/management skills and at the same time serving. PATRICK SHOULD COMMENT ON THIS!!! This is what I should have done but 9-11 patriotism clouded my judgement. Good Luck to all of you and SemperFi!!!

My answer is ultimately that one should allow oneself to fight out of a corner. Being in the military puts one in a corner. Being a freelancer does. An entrepreneur does. Comfort and complacency are poison, ultimately. If one is too comfortable, there is no corner to fight out of, and there is little drive to keep moving forward. I think the military provides a unique experience that nothing else provides, but then so do many other tough situations to be in. So I would go with Pat's points and see what other situations in life that would call for and provide those skillsets. I went through university myself and realize on hindsight I did it all wrong - too much comfort. But then again it provided a leg up for pushing forward in career and now I'm getting the biz off the ground. TL:DR - Comfort is poison. Be uncomfortable, and keep on fighting.

Or you could do both. Go to the military first, serve honorably, and earn a paid education.

I really want to but military in the philippines is soo unattractive and low-tech, I also wanna go for the reason because I want to get physically big while I'm not, but in my country you don't get big, it sucks. That's why I'm just gonna elliminate comfort in my life, and start going for 100% days.

dude we haven't fought a just war in 60 years. i would like to see the best patriots willing to be warriors in our country to be tasked with a more legitimate task. let me make this very clear, i support the troops. i don't trust the decision makers as far as i can throw them. and i cant do 4 pull ups. your point about teamwork is spot on. what i did: college, then on to an AmeriCorps program that was more selective than most colleges. low pay, but you were challenged out of your comfort zone regularly doing good work for great organizations. and with the internet now, you can learn almost anything on your own. practice math, it is a practice on logic. logic is important. you get in to coding or science. or if you have no soul, be a lawyer. yeah don't work for a machine that is designed to kill. and we don't kill for legitimate reasons anymore. our million dollar missiles create more terrorists every time their targets are wrong. he makes a decent case for his point. and its one side. ok neverming. one guy had a mountain of blow? disregard everything i said. go to the military. do drugs. get kicked out. leave with all of the skill he talked about.

Some people don’t find working behind a desk appealing. Let’s say there’s an athlete who’s tough as nails and sees a video of Navy SEALs or Special Forces. He’s going to be attracted because he likes the idea of being part of an elite band of brothers. From what I’ve heard, special operations guys live like rockstars and get paid too. How can you convince someone to stick to a white collar job? You can perhaps encourage him to do the trades or consider law enforcement. Also, not all military folks fight. There’s computer guys, engineer, etc. They’ve never stepped out the wire. It’s better to learn a skill for “free” than have to pay for it. College is overrated anyways.

College is worthless for example a degree in electrical engineering takes about 130 credit hours. Just alone in the Navy going to A school (22 weeks 6 hours x 5 days a week was 660 hours hands on electronics work and book study. B school was 24 weeks x 6 hours x 5 days a week was 720 hours hands on advanced electronics work and book study and then C school was another 12 weeks x 6 hours x 5 days a week was another 360 hours hands on super advanced electronics work and book study. And to top it all off it was free and while the average college engineering graduate has only120 hours practical study and tuition debt your average military vet has over 1600 hours more technical knowledge plus hands on experience than the person with the degree doesn’t have.

2 comments. PBD how important is diversity to you?2) I find when the teacher says you don't have to come to class, that's really a lesson on personal accountability because most students who don't come to class are not going to do well in that class. So it's on them to do what they need to do in order to do well in the class.
