Goal setting can be overwhelming for many people, but it doesn't have to be. If you reframe your goals and start by focusing on how you ultimately want to feel instead of what you want to attain or accomplish, your goals will have more depth. In this video, you'll learn Danielle LaPorte's top four tips for discovering your core desired feelings.
1. Feel What Feels Good. When goal setting this way, first ask yourself how you want to feel in three main categories: lifestyle and livelihood, body and wellness, relationships, and society. Write stream of consciousness lists for each category listing out your desired feelings for each.
2. Look For Patterns. Identify the words you repeat in these lists, or notice the patterns that are coming up. Begin to narrow down your list of words that will help with goal setting through your desired feelings.
3. Declare Your Core Desired Feelings. Ask yourself what's beneath a feeling for you. For example, maybe "success" is really about freedom, or love, or creativity. This is a good time to turn to a dictionary and look up the definitions of words -- every word is its own world.
4. Ask Yourself: What do I want to do, have or experience to create my core desired feelings? This is the beginning of goal setting with soul. This is where you make connections between how you want to feel and what will actually help you feel that way.

Re-watched this 3 times, got out my notebook and pen, wrote down all desired feelings into the 3 category, narrowed them down to 4 and list my goals relating to these core desired feelings: Abundance | Freedom | Alive | Love And suddenly, my 2014 goals seemed attainable compared to previous!!! Thank you very much, Marie and Danielle

I can not tell you how many times I have watched this interview with Danielle as both of these Goddesses are some of my favs, and for the first time I really heard, " my Spirituality has to work in my kitchen, it's got to work in my bedroom, it's got to work in my heart." Brilliant! My Spiritual beliefs have had a shift recently and this totally resonated with me. AND, I love the core desire of Shakti... adopting it as mine! Thank you glorious Beings of Light and Love!

Forgot to say that I am absolutely enamored with the fact that Danielle talked about relying on outer forces to feel good about yourself (this is ABSOLUTELY what most selfies rely on--and why to a certain extent I disdain them because of the "look at me" mentality). Our worth will be self-evident when we get to love ourselves for where we're at with who we are right now and where we're going on an awesome journey. LOVE you, Marie and Danielle.

I wasn't even going to watch this one because of the words: Goal Setting. I feel exhausted when I have to sit down and write out things like "goals". Everything she said about it is how I feel towards them and so usually most do not get achieved because of the pressure of achieving. The key moment in this interview for me was when Danielle talked about how everyone is living under someone else's interpretation of success. Unbelievably powerful. You see this demonstrated on a daily basis. Its gotten so in my life that I do not know how to define success or confidence. But this Desire Map, the steps and discovering how you want to feel, WOW that opens a door of great joy and creativity for me. Its not about goals anymore its about finding the fun, the joy, about life and how is should be lived. I'm so grateful for this interview and seeing it at this moment. Thank you Marie and Danielle!

I'm going to do a lot of jotting down in my journal tonight to find my core feelings. I never reach any of my goals in life, I'm 23 and feel like a big fat failure most of the time because of the whole "success" thing you guys talked about. Trying to live up to other people's versions of it. Thank you so much for this video. I feel something in me after watching it.

This was an absolute revelation. My book coach has been after me and after me to get to the feelings behind the goals I set because I'm not making progress. Danielle's advice and insights gave me hope. That's the one thing that was the "ah-ha" moment for me. What is one core desire feeling for me: feeling like I'm enough. All my life I've been told I wasn't enough: tall enough, skinny enough, educated enough or a good enough writer to make it in the industry. I want to feel enough.

One of the best videos I've seen, had to leave a comment. I was in tears, I was inspired, you had me shouting at my screen "I love you Marie and Danielle!!!" I had those a-ha moments that Oprah talks about. It's litterally when your heart and your spirit says "amen" because it's hearing the truth, it gives you shivers through your whole entire body you can't even control it, weirdly enough an orgasm can be described in the same way lol and with no coincidence whenever I'm doing something that is aligned with my purpose I feel those same shivers...

Love your interviews! :D The single take-away I got from the interview is it backed up what I figured out on my own and discussed with my therapist today. If that's not synchronicity, what is? One core feeling I've been discovering I needed in life over the years is worthiness. Not based on other people's perspectives, but worthy of being myself and giving as much or as little of me as necessary to feel safe, secure, inspired, and at peace in my life. I'm in a new stage of my life, which is scary but thrilling. Last year, I self-published my debut novel, which I wrote to heal from some of my CPTSD issues. This year, I'm republishing and rebranding the first book as I've learned more about writing and editing, then finishing the second book which I hope to self-publish by spring 2023. Also, editing for others, volunteering on my terms instead of being voluntold what to do, and making decisions for myself when most of my life, I let others make the biggest decisions for me. I'm worthy of love, of trust, of happiness, and above all, authenticity. Follow-through is easier when I know what I need from life.

I did the goal setting thing right after New Year's eve 2013, and maybe 80% of the things I wanted, I achieved them... the last 20% were not achieved because I didn't think it would make me feel better, so I forgot about them.... I mean, this is what I realize now, thanks to this video! Now I know I should focus first on my core desired beliefs to make the right choices in terms of goals. This is what I will keep in mind next time.. so thank you for this interview. PS: One of my core desired belief is being at peace with myself (consciously)

This was certainly revolutionary for me. I am reading Danielle's book and it is the first time I've been able to take a breath, let my shoulders relax and say YES. That is IT. You just articulated what my problem with goal setting has been. I had "I want to make a million dollars in a year" and I want to reach a certain director lever in my business. When those things haven't happened yet the feeling is simply dismal. The Core Desire Feelings that I need to narrow down from are: peace, clean, organized, simple, creative, joy, abundant, power, influence, passion and I LOVE Danielle's "creation". The one that is definitely first on the list is PEACE.

Great interview and great personalities. Both of you! What I took away from this is the pushing part in the beginning. It seems so obvious, yet you don't notice how you constantly push yourself into doing things, which then leads to resentment and procrastitation And let's face it...we HATE being forced to do things, as we are independent creatures and do what we want :). I think it's important to change the language of your thoughts in order to relieve ourselves from unwanted feelings in order to move forward, and actually do things and be productive. One core desire for me would definitely be joy. What's the point of being sad and angry in this life? We should live our lives to the fullest, and be happy.
