Don't have an 'aw-brain', but a 'Wow-brain'. Be willing to go through the pain to change.1- Set (envision) a path to improvement. 2- Set Trigger (small) goals leading up to the big goal. 3- Set Improvement goals. 4- Gather a tribe around yourself. Get a coach, mentor, people to support you. 5- Script your setbacks; What will you do if you don't get the response or support you expected to get to accomplish your goals?

The last tip, Scripting Your Setbacks, is the most helpful to me right now. Made a great change a week ago and totally didn't see a side swipe to my goals coming just yesterday. Now I can plan for times such as these and not get frustrated that I'm losing valuable time to work on my goals.

I have my goal trigger when it comes to working out! It's new but I realized that I was sabotaging myself by simply finding excuses and being lazy when it came to moving my laptop in the other room (I work out with youtube videos) and setting up the speakers! How lame is that? But after analyzing it, I simply asked my husband to set up my computer every day so that I don't have anymore excuses and it WORKS! Great video!!

Love this video! :D I naturally have a "Wow" brain, and the "ow" brain comes from traumas. It's easy to distrust my "wow" factor after years of narcissistic-style abuse. Now, I focus on both the "wow" and the "ow" to make the wisest decisions possible. Transitioning to healing myself from procrastination, I've developed my own system of 3/4-assing my way through life, which helps me change from splitting against myself into promoting healing on a daily basis, whether it be through writing, singing, cleaning, creating my own choreography, connecting with friends and my husband, or meditating either in my mind or on a nature walk as a morning date with my husband and our dogs. Even on major depression and burnout days (I have fibromyalgia), I've realized I have less self-sabotage when I focus on what I want in life instead of what I didn't get in life.

Loved this so much! I kid you not - every time I turn one of the episodes I plan on just listening to it in the background when I edit photos (I'm a photographer). Once again, instead of editing, I found myself grabbing a notebook and taking notes from the very beginning of the conversation. One of my struggles is the Law of Process, I learned so many practical tips to help me tweak my behavior ahead of time so I don't sabotage my progress. Thank you so much for sharing your light and wisdom with us so freely! Ewelina

I appreciate the way Todd Herman has distilled the latest neuroscience on making substantive changes in one's life. As someone who's been retraining a hair trigger limbic response for a long time, his approach of reducing surprise and overwhelm, specifically with the microchanges/goals and scripting setback is very welcome and appealing. I want more WOW brain action and this is doable. Thanks!

I used to think all these people say/do is a woohoo and they just want to waste my time and money but now I have opposite opinion in fact, I reflected on my old thoughts and think to myself, how negative I was is shocking! I’m just so grateful for the people who put great content out there everyday because it is absolutely changing lives!!!

What he shared in the beginning part explained a lot to me. For the 1st time ever I realize that those "yuck" feelings I get when trying to change something about myself isn't really me. It is my body/my brain wanting more of the uggg feelings that it is so use to getting. This specific subject needs shared & taught MUCH more often! I bet I al ot of people would get from it what I did. I am a self help junkie & have listened to hundreds of speakers and not ONE time was anything like this ever mentioned. Thank you! Beth :)

Nowadays, I tend to have more of an OWW brain. I have been struggling with being consistent with changes I am working on. The steps from this video that really helps me is: 3. Setting improvement goals and 5. Script your setbacks. I have the other steps down, but these two steps I mentioned have been the missing pieces. I am excited to start implementing them! Thank you so much Marie and Todd!

Since I work with clients using EFT (meridian tapping), I LOVED this video! GREAT explanation of how our minds work, the neurology of our brain. This is why I see profound results using EFT since is lowers the cortisol in the brain when we tap on the meridian points to stimulate the neuron transmitters. THANK YOU!

This interview was amazing! I discovered Marie Forleo's videos a couple days ago and I am hooked. She is so positive, talented, and inspiring! Definitely feel like I discovered her at the right time. I recently quit my job after 5 years so that I could pursue my dream life of working for myself. In this journey I am focusing on what I truly want out of life. It is scary and uncertainty has hit me in the face hard! I am now focusing on starting my own business and researching like crazy all over the web to get prepared. Its been a tough but exciting! I would identify myself as a Wow until I'm an Oww type of person. I start off extremely optimistic and pursue what I'm interested in like a lion chasing its prey. As soon as I feel overwhelmed with the amount of work I start the self sabotage! So I identify with each step of the process but two of them stuck out the most. Step #4: Gathering a tribe and Step #5: Script your setbacks. Being alone in your pursuit to making your dreams come true is tough. So realizing that I should surround myself with a tribe makes me feel supported, which is what I need! Step 5 spoke to me because it makes perfect sense! Anticipating how I am going to react in certain situations ahead of time will better prepare me for battling the self hate! Thanks again!!!!!

I am going to try the baby steps to the goal. I think that is a great idea. I will start by training myself to get up at least 30 minutes early in the morning 3 days a week and trying to work out at least 15 minutes of that 30. Then add 5 minutes a week. Then add additional days.

I think I have the OWW brain because every time I tell myself I'm going to make a change this time, the self-sabotaging resistance resurfaces again. The self-defeating thoughts and the need to feel safe are dominant in my vibration. I do have a clear vision and I know what path I want to be on, but uncertainty is always on my radar. I am learning to becoming more of a planner and planning tomorrow helps me to feel less overwhelmed and stressed which will help me improve my habits. I also believe in feeding myself with positive thoughts and establishing a connection with people who are open-minded, positive and spiritual has helped me reinforce the positive energy I needed.

Making and keeping changes will be MUCH easier if you learn and practice associating pleasant emotions and feelings with thoughts and actions that used to cause you to feel unpleasant emotions and feelings. This is much more efficient that what Todd spoke of.
@humanyoda
@humanyoda 10 жыл бұрын
***** I don't view these two approaches as being the same. If one reduces or eliminate unpleasant emotional "charges" associated with a thought or action and/or attaches pleasant emotions and feelings to an appropriate thought/action, then there will be no need in several steps in the process of establishing steps. For example, if you consider his situation with a chocolate cake... if he were to eliminate his addiction to chocolate cakes, there would be no need to prepare his reactions to invitations to eat a cake, or to use will power not to eat one. That's how I view this.
@humanyoda
@humanyoda 10 жыл бұрын
***** Monica, I think you think that because you took my words as just general ideas, a piece of advice, guidelines, philosophy, etc. However, there are specific psychological techniques that make achieving what I described pretty quick and easy. E.g., EFT, Sedona Method, RPT, etc. can allow one to drop an unpleasant emotional charge VERY quickly (often in seconds or minutes). An NLP technique called Swish Technique also allows one to do that, but it also allows connecting pleasant emotions and feelings to a thought or action. If you haven't tried these methods, you will probably be very pleasantly surprised when you do. They allow making very serious changes without taking days, weeks or months.
@xchump
@xchump 10 жыл бұрын
humanyoda I've tried practicing the Swish technique without success.
@humanyoda
@humanyoda 10 жыл бұрын
xchump And I've gotten a woman out of deep depression using it - in one session. And have helped another to eliminate her strong unpleasant emotion. (I've used it on just two people. I have used other techniques with more people.) Perhaps, there were other important factors to using the technique.
@humanyoda
@humanyoda 10 жыл бұрын
***** I am aware of the fact that not all people are able to use it (and other techniques) in solo mode. What also happens is that the same people are able to do that, but not in all situations. Having a competent trusted facilitator helps in those cases. The success rate is close to 100% (if "success" could be taken to mean, at least, a very significant improvement). As you said, it is possible that you haven't used the method properly. The essential aspect of this and other methods is "aiming", i.e., applying the method to the correct emotion, feeling, sensation. Many people don't know or understand that and simply pay attention to the mechanical aspect of the method, which isn't important, actually. It is also possible that you might have needed a facilitator... at least, in those cases. There's a simpler variation of the classic EFT - called FasterEFT (promoted by Robert Smith). My knowledge and experience tell me that his version is better, particularly, the newest version, in which he doesn't even "tap". I also think that tapping is meaningless. It's useful, but isn't key at all and can be replaced by many different mental or mechanical actions, without loss of effectiveness.

First, I absolutely love this episode and Todd is probably one of my favorite speakers now. This episode makes too much sense! I have an OWW brain when it comes to doing things that involve creativity because I had never thought of myself as a creative person and because of my belief that real creativity doesn't exist because we always get inspiration from somewhere or someone. But I have a WOW brain when it comes to exercise and eating healthy and trying new things like study habits and decision making. The steps I would like to work on the most are steps 4 and 5, gathering a supportive tribe and scripting my setbacks. Again, LOVE this episode. I have to share it.

I have an OWW brain majority of the time I think. Its easier for me to go back into my shell. Every time I get too lazy to make a change in my life. I tell myself its not worth the effort maybe I have set up the wrong goal. The best prescription I liked from Todd was to set up trigger goals. Small action steps will lead to large action steps.

Along the way I discovered there are so many micro stuffs to deal with in my perspective, memorisation, action, etc... all that without understanding it feels like being defeated when I encountered a minor setback. The 5 keynotes are really helpful in my goal setting, thank you so much once again.

Very interesting topic Change something like feel of prepare for reject it. As my case I can change place I will live such as I will move and don't need things and place that very clear with me before. In fact have little procrastination and worry little things that we can specific them but in fact when we decide to change and do it immediately then with new things, new place or new level of ourselves will be really good, we will love that and in fact little procrastination and worry little only exist in short time, very short. I am very welcome and congrats any changes for good and need of people.
