I'm a 40 yrs old and started playing hockey a few years ago. I have wanted to try goalie since I started, but couldn't build up the courage to just do it. Your videos made me dive of the deep end and I just purchased a whole set up. Can't wait to get on the ice!!!

Amazing! You will love it, you will feel like a little kid again. Whatever you do, don't get frustrated, it is tricky hard, but oh so fun. This video might help you out too - kzbin.info/www/bejne/f3azmpttbM9sbLssi=7EhUZWVsy7-q9ZDg it's all about how to put the gear on. That can be a little confusing :)

re-learning what is out there for goalie gear. most of my stuff is from the previous century, lol! slowly upgrading with 10 year old gear. no knee pads under the main leg pads, maybe I should get some...

Definitely worth a try, makes it more comfortable going into the butterfly for sure and the little extra height takes quite a bit of torque off the knees and ankles.

52-year-old Goalie starting again after 12 years because my son just got into Hockey he’s 12 I purchased the Bauer koneckt 2 skates and absolutely love them. Feels like two pillows on your feet. 1st skate after baking felt like I wore them for 5 years comfort wise. I also haven’t had any luck with toe ties and prolaces just me personally so now I use a skate lace tied with a 4 inch gap and then run stock Bauer toe ties through the loop and love so simple and easy. Love the channel!! Stay well

Welcome back Anthony! I bet you are loving being back on the ice - - gear has changed a lot during your 12-year break. Wonderful that you and your son will be able to celebrate each others successes and support each other during the tough times!

I tried out the Pro Padded Compression sleeves from G Form under my normal knee guards and got really nasty bruising that was clearly shaped in line with the foam lines, just from about 40 minutes at stick and puck. Way worse than just my normal set up unfortunately. Maybe folks have had better luck with the pro rugged style, but I'll let someone else try those out!

That sounds less than ideal. I've only every used the Bauer ones and they've been great. I know other guys who've used ones they got from G-Form and had good results with them, not sure if there are different versions or what, but I'm sorry you had that experience.

I have the same warrior pads and I agree, the stock toe ties are a game changer for me. I have tried everything in the past, skate laces, bauer bungees, ccm bungees, toe hook, and this is the best by far for performance, consistency of skate to ice contact, and ease of attachment. It has never ever come loose either, which is huge. I have managed to wreck every other system, usually mid-game, which is terrible to deal with since it is not a quick fix.

Great point that they NEVER come undone!

Even if you don't wear a base layer I think some cut resistant socks that cover your Achilles and calf would be a smart addition. Someone stepping on your leg when you're down in a butterfly during a scrum in the crease is more common than up by your neck. This happened to me before we had all this cool cut-resistant clothing. The cutshield socks are very thin and have worked great for me.

Yes, I mentioned in the video that I wear the Howie's cut resistant socks; I wear them every time I am on the ice.

I changed my chesty from an old Bauer Ultrasonic to a CCM eflex 6, that I chose because... it was the cheapest pro level chesty I could get. I don't regret it one bit, it is super comfy, an the work CCM has done to improve the ventilation on all their latest equipment is fantastic. My Bauer chesty used to be soaking wet after a skate (I sweat a lot), my CCM is just humid. I also happen to have switched to CCM XF knee guard, and same thing, my warrior G5 used to be soaking wet after a skate, the CCM are just a little humid.

Sound like good changes, nothing worse than putting on gear that is still wet from the last skate.

Hello have you ever heard of Billingsley Goaltending. They are a training facility in London they have great coaches. You should make a video there some time.

I have really been finding your videos helpful. I was just wondering what a good weekly off-ice workout split is. I have two practices a week (Tuesday, Thursday), and wanted to try and shape a weekly workout plan around them (strength, endurance, stretching, ext.). If you have any recommendations, please let me know. Thanks for the videos.

For sure, can you let me know your age and level of play? Also, how many games per week do you play?

@@goalietraining I'm 19 and play on my college club D3 team. Our room is very small (I'm the only goalie), so the goal is mainly to have fun, but it is still competitive. The team is not required to train off ice, but I want to continue to improve my skills for my own satisfaction, because I love the sport, and for my teammates. And we usually play one, sometimes two, games per week (They will be on Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays).

@@JakeS-rf3lw If you aren't trying to take the next step after your college years (move up to pro hockey), then I think your best option might be something like the Beer League BootCamp In-Season program - the workouts are less intense and less volume than what a goalie trying to move up would do, but it might be a good place to start - here's the info - goalietraining.pages.ontraport.net/BLBC_InSeason The other option is the Game Winning Goalie Formula group coaching program, but that might be more involved than what you are looking for, but here's the info so you can see which one might suit you the best... go.goalietrainingpro.com/gwgf I hope this helps.

I use a ski boot/roller blade style closure on my Graf skates. This has been a game changer, plus I didn't have to give up the legendary fit og my Graf skates to try the closure of Koneckt skates. I wear a one-piece Hespeler base layer, put a pair of spandex tights over my knee pads and jock. I don't get too hot in it, possibly because I walk on my treadmill with both a 25 pound weighted vest and a hoodie on top. I sewed extra protection onto my neck guard so that it won't pop out of my chesty. My knee guards are an eight year old pair of Factory Mad that all I have done is buy new elastics.

Hey Maria I'm sorry this doesn't relate to the video but I have a question So I've always played goalie on foot and I've been recently trying to move to rollerblades. But when I practice I quickly begin to get pain in my lower calves. Kind of in my feet too but mainly my calves. It won't go away until I rest or take a lot of the pressure off. I definitely don't think my skates are too tight so idk what the problem is. And I'm only 18 too so I'm finding this really odd. Thanks!!
@goalietraining4 ай бұрын
If I had to guess, I would say it is the added muscular load on the muscles of your feet and lower legs from being on an unstable surface (rollerblades vs shoes). You don't really notice it, but those muscles are doing a ton of work to keep you upright and balanced. That would be my guess if you don't think your skates are too tight. I feel a similar thing if I don't get out on the ice a few minutes early and do some gentle skating to kind of let those muscles warm up. If I hop out there and just start going, I will get that kind of fatigue deficit going. I hope this helps - let me know.
@RandomVideoCreator20184 ай бұрын
@@goalietraining That makes sense. I'm currently just practicing on some linoleum tiles on my driveway but I can still try to warm up my muscles. Also I haven't been stretching them too much so I will try to give that a go. Thanks for all your help and I'll let you know how it goes
