I love your videos! My family doesn't like beets either, but I know that they are really nutritious. What I have started doing is freeze drying and powdering them. I add the powder to different dishes so we get the nutrition without the beet taste. The other day I added the beet powder to our spaghetti sauce and no one knew the difference.

Hi a way to try and use up the beets you have canned is add some with some Lemmon to humus. The Lemmon brightens the flavor of the beet and still gives you the nutritional value of the beet so good for heart health.

The relationship you demonstrate with one another and your children is one to model. Regarding blackberries, I live 2 states north of you and my blackberries overwinter in subzero weather. Last year, I made blackberry syrup to use on pancakes and waffles. My husband has decided it is the perfect ice cream topping.

I put our 2+ year old seeds in the freezer. My thought process is that they could be used in an emergency or as a "gift" for unprepared people during hard times (making sure to tell the people to double or triple plant them).

Some Library do seed swaps you could donate them too.
Please try cubed cooked red beets salad with cellery, apple and sour cream and dill/apple cider vinegar dressing. It tastes even better with wallnut brittle (use moscovado for this)

That was fun! Yes we need to take a whole bunch of stuff to the tip (waste management site) as we have old toys and broken things in the garden. One of my goals is this year is to make the garden a little more prettier instead of just functional. So even more flowers this year and generally more tidier. We are in the process of moving our sandpit to reuse as a planting bed and make the borders more uniform in size so the lawn looks more straighter. Our issue with that kind of waste is that it was closed during lockdown and then by appointment only so does restrict us from when we can go, instead of impromptu taking bits at a time and i don't have a big car. Yes, we don't talk about how much we spend on seeds! lol I like to think we save money in the long run and we do save some of our old seeds when we can. Will be good to see how well the wheat and blackberries go with you. Would you ever do a mass cover crop in some of the land that isn't being used? Is there something in your region that grows really well? or like a big path of sunflowers? Would you ever grow sunflowers for oil or seeds for eating? Or chickpeas for that matter? New for us this year are Mountain Magic and Honeycomb cherry tomatoes and also growing chilli's, onions and leeks from seed.

That was fun! You should try barley too. Baker Creek has a hull-less variety. It fits really well into a crop rotation, because you can plant it early, and harvest by like the end of June, and then put in your fall/winter brassicas. I like roasted beets, but they are also good raw in salads, and in the winter I juice them with carrots. I think it's definitely a good vegetable to keep trying to find a way to eat them, since they store so long and are so nutritious.
