Not sure I agree her crying was due to feeling for the guy shot. That sounded to me like a reaction stemming from an adrenaline dump. She was simply overwhelmed by the intensity of her body’s fight/flight response when she finally had some time to begin to emotionally process it.

She absolutely did not want to have to pull that trigger, she exhausted all opportunities, maxed out most officers limit of patience for an armed subject, tried verbalizing the fact she didn't want too but would eventually HAVE to use lethal force. I commend this young lady, undoubtedly her first time having to fire on a subject. Her breakdown shows her empathy and the fact that she like nearly all officers are in fact simply humans. Kudos to you young lady!!

Hey. I'm retired cpd also.. 25 years. I retired in 2019. I'll tell u what the first 17 years or So had never had use my gun. Not once. For the last 8 years it was a completely different story. Around 2011 I was transferred and was mainly working the south side with some of the gang units. It made me second guess my career choice dang near every night..I've shot 7 ppl killing 3. I justify by saying they was gang members,, most of them was gangster disciples and a few bds. I still think about it almost everyday. They was ppl too ya know. It messes with me. I'm just happy to have my life and I retired to quiet Ohio lol

I have never had to shoot anyone. I was an EMT, and know the emotions that run through you after the event. When my wife died in front of me, I was calm and composed. Until afterwards. I still have times of extreme emotional distress from it, that I don't have from my time as an EMT. PTSD effects everyone differently. Get help if you have any issues from a traumatic event. That said, I wouldn't have taken so long to end the threat.

The fact that they showed so much restraint I think was good. The fact that so many cops don’t use a gun as a last resort is trash some times. Cops need to be held at a higher standard then citizens though they are not. With that said the shooting was just in my opinion. The one female officer did alright. She was making relevant callouts and had the most sense while the rest of the cops were lackadaisically nagging the perp like they're paid by the hour. Also she was the only one who seemed to be taking anything seriously - issuing good commands, checking what he was reaching for in the car, being mindful of other nearby citizens, she did well

I feel for the officer that took the shot, I agree it took too long before they took action but honestly with all the shootings and nonsense and backlash I have to believe they were trying to find a way to not shoot this guy, and she arrived at the point of enough is enough. You mentioned there was some backlash in the community from this, I stand by my view on that sort of thing, if you don't want to be treated like a criminal, don't act like one. Every time we turn around Police officers are being bashed for not doing this or being too aggressive, their jobs are already difficult, its easy to back seat quarter back when we dont have to live with their consequences. @mcinnisj100 batch. Could be the first or after many other times. The one time it happened to me, I had over 10 years of dealing with various crises. Did I have signs that I could've prevented what happened? I've never identified any signs till this day. I walked away after doing 20 years. Too bad the memories don't stop when you quit the job.

Armchair quarterback all we want; these officers know their hood and look at the fucking results- one shot; suspect neutralized, nobody innocent hurt. You can point to a thousand other interactions where the officers shot earlier and there was way more collateral damage, if not innocent cops and bystanders hurt. Man listen.....people wander around YOU all the time armed and you just don't know it. Here is what we were taught in the academy. Although a person is armed they ate nit a threat unless that weapon is aimed or being leveled at an officer or innocent. Situations can be electric and a well trained officer can navigate them well. Officers knew he was armed saw he was armed and refrained from killing him immediately as so many other officers would have done. 28 year vet here

She did not want to hurt that guy but when he has a gun and isn't obeying basic commands, you have to make a choice. she did the right thing. She has a good heart. There's another video circulating of a male officer also breaking down into a full blown anxiety attack. these situations are not games. its literal life and death. she probably has a mother, and child, and or a husband waiting for her to get home safe.

From everything you could hear her saying, you can just tell this is the last place she wanted to be that day and shooting him was the last thing she wanted to do, but she said enough is enough and handled the situation admirably. Instead of telling someone they're ok or asking them to take a deep breath when they can't stop taking deep breaths... try this instead. Ask them to look at your face and explain what they see. Describing something that is not the object of extreme emotion has proven to be very calming to people in panic and anxiety attacks and has a considerable amount of value in a situation like this.

There's problems with how the situation was handled, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with how that officer responded in the end. The massive amount of stress that comes out of a situation like this isn't something that a person is built to take like it's normal. I have a massive amount of respect for her being able to remain composed through the entire ordeal and just letting everything out in the end once she knew that everything was done and taken care of. It's much better to just let all of those feelings go and getting the support she need immediately, rather than trying to just keep it all pent up.

I could feel her adrenaline crash. She held it until he was in custody at least but she doesn’t belong in law enforcement. Her behavior during the interaction was abysmal, as was her fellow officers. Poor training & poor candidate screening.

Great work to the female officer. Did the job that needed done. To her Partner also well done. Great to see him be compassionate and take care of the needs of his Partner. I haven’t read much of the comment section but I hope no one is bashing this officer for her emotional release. Never had to shoot anyone while on the job but even pulling your firearm and pointing it at another human being not knowing how it’s going to end up carries weight. I hope she stays on the job. She clearly cares about the community and didn’t want to have to use that level of force. Stay safe everyone.

@trevspeaks3 that's a strawman. You can't honestly say that the pigmentation didn't play a roll in this. Every officer is thinking it. To say they are not is being intellectually dishonest. The same thing happened the other day when a white officer had a gun pointed at him and begged for his life. ASP covered it. The scales are tipped one way. If you can't see it that means you're not willing to be part of the solution, rather you're part of the problem. Lethal force should be prescribed not on the basis of skin color but rather justice.

They should have tasered him, and pulled him through the window at the beginning. They should NOT have allowed him to bounce back and forth between the passenger and driver's seats over and over. They should NOT have allowed him to try and start the car. And, once he was out and running around, the MALE officers did nothing but hide behind trees. SHE was the one that went after the guy. SHE was the one that shot him, while the MALE officers were jacking off somewhere. Poor poor excuses of police officers on the MALE side.

What is wrong with our society when the perp says, “You’re black and you’re pulling on me.” Why does it matter what race the perp is and what race the police officer is? That is really bothersome to me. I believe our police officers are at serious risk due to their reluctance to confront a person of color and that’s just wrong. If someone breaks the law, law enforcement will and should intervene. Nothing to do with race. Everything to do with obeying the law. After seeing this badge cam, why would anyone protest the use of force, as is what happened in Atlanta after this shooting. We as a nation are heading in the wrong direction.
