The commentary on this video is the FUNNIEST!! And so true. They have a duty to stay physically fit. They also needed to NOT engage with this man. In my opinion the police shouldn’t have engaged here. Or at least like you said, make a connection with him instead of be a doofus. I want to ask him if he is a veteran through my phone! Also, he seemed like he was suffering with some mental illness and/or psychosis. The officers need to educate themselves on this so they can disengage until they have appropriate backup help and information.

A little research on this showed that he is a new hire and had just recently completed training when this awful event happened. He was hired in this physical condition. The police chief that assisted in the arrest introduced the new LEO, Josh, during the January town council. Josh then trained for 90 days and this happened shortly after his training was complete. Sheesh.

If true, then the chief screwed everyone in that town. Josh is going to have to wrestle just about every day, because no one is going to take him seriously as an officer. Two things wrong in this video; the one being commented on is the minor problem which is the incompetence of the officers. The bigger problem is the multiple violations of civil rights. Again, that is incompetence. This poor guy committed no crime, there was no cause, he didn't listen, and the "you will respect my authority" ego kicked in. If that guy had been more violent, bigger, or just plain meaner...it would have ended badly for these two officers.

When I first saw the officer come into view and viewed his physical appearance I knew this was not going to go well. How he ever got onto the police is unfathomable. John, you mentioned the officer may have had a tough time reaching around his own waist to get the taser. Let me share something that may sound a bit weird but it works, and that is when we reach around and are a bit heavy, we tend to inhale for that reach, but here's the clincher, inhaling actually makes it more difficult to reach around our waist. By EXhailing, you can reach farther around. Try it both ways, inhale turn then exhale and turn, standing and you will see how much a difference it makes. EXhailing seems to relax the torso so you can twist. A funny but good way to train yourself how to get in the habit of doing the opposite of inhaling is to do it on the toilet. That's right, after you've done your business and you are ready to wipe, EXhale as you reach around, LOL it works!

@@chuckrudder4246 look I fully support law enforcement and believe the overwhelming majority of police officers do the right thing. But this whole encounter was basically an officer going into panic mode to get the guy into custody. And then add to the fact that he was horribly unprepared and made so many other mistakes while trying to detain the individual. I don’t have all the facts so I can only go off of the video provided. I’m not sure what probable cause the officer had to detain the individual in the first place. But his lack of good verbal communication and then just immediately escalating the situation to physical detention is just the wrong way to handle this and arguably violated this man’s rights in the process. And I also understand that laws vary from state to state and town to town and that it’s “possible” no rights were violated. But an officer can’t just vaguely accuse you of something without probable cause and then immediately move to physically detain you in the manner this officer did. He’s an embarrassment to good police officers everywhere. All these kinds of interactions do is give good officers a bad name and put taxpayers on the hook for potential lawsuits against the police department in the future.

The cops, nor anyone else, were never in danger. In this situation, the only reason the cops "needed" to physically force immediate compliance was their pride. Yeah, I’m struggling with this too. I get you can’t resist a cop, and should fight it later in the courts…. But honestly that’s expensive and no guarantee you will get justice. I have an honest question: if a cop unjustly assaults you or a family member, can you legally defend yourself? If i am walking down the street and a cop ridiculously escalates a situation and puts hands on me, am i not justified to defend myself against a person who obviously means me or my family harm?

@@ADG9289 what are you talking about?? Obvious mental illnesses?? You a psychiatrist? So a man doing the universal sign for hitchhiking on the side of the road is apparently “obviously” has mental illness. You’d be just as bad as this cop for escalating absolutely nothing and getting innocent ppl arrested for dumb shit. Cop got out and asked him the same question 10 times in a row and nothing else. The guy clearly has the capacity to tell the officer I don’t need your help and even gets snarky by basically saying what do you think I’m doing with my thumb up on the side of the road? The only thing loosely“indicative” of mental issues would be the reported things he may have been doing beforehand. Which is just a report of suspicious activity. No actual crime, and the cop doesn’t even try to figure what he was doing, or even if it really is the guy called for. I don’t know just seems like a stretch to immediately assume someone has mental issues or on drugs off of so little. Especially when during the interaction he did not show any impairments. Shit he even remains calm when the officer tries to put hands on him for no reason! Telling him he’s making a mistake. And that’s with a cop who didn’t say he committed any crimes, “just asked him he can help him” accused him of moving a fucking cone, and then trying to wrestle him from behind. Like what?

I just feel bad for this. This guy was obviously in need of some help and this officer just felt like exerting power on him. Yes he was causing a disturbance but he didn't look mentally stable. The cop should have just waited for his partner and talk the guy down and when the guy started walking off again, he should have just gave him some space while still talking to him and if the guy was absolutely going to get someone hurt, then they use force to detain him. I'm not sure if there is one, but there should definitely be a course in the police academy for identifying someone who is mentally unstable or who is possibly on the spectrum and how to address them.
