How are you going to do that since gen 3 vehicles don't have a flex fuel parameters to tune with in the first place even if you install a sensor unless your planing to drive the car all the time with e85 then yes it's possible by adjusting your stoich timing and fueling to e85 only is that it?

Appreciate you adding this and look forward to the tuning add videos and how much you can stretch. Currently I am supplementing 93 with Boostane and know I am leaving some timing out for that config which I should be able to add in for power.

I'm going to have to figure out supplemental fueling so either I'm adding another methanol jet but what sold be more fun is trying an additional injector controller and piping an injector into the inlet to run under boost on an ethanol tune.

I did this installation but the tuner I went just simply enabled the sensor. Didn’t change the interference or stioch, do I need to go back and have this changed? PA…I’m doing cam & all in a couple weeks along with another trip to the tuner

I opened the table at flex fuel spark and it’s all 0’s what should I do? My car has been tuned but not with e85 everything you said was already just like yours pretty much until I got here. Swapped vehicle 2015 L83 with a stage3 cam .222in .230ex .353 .353 .635. .635 112 lobe sep 107 32% fuel lobe upgrade

RESET LTFT!!!! Yo. your vids are great. I have watched a bunch of them, as well as other guys tuning vids. I have not seen anyone reset or disable LTFT in VCM, and guess what I just found out, this is supposed to be done w every log..... Any chance you could slap one of these (how to and why) togeher?

Does it matter if the sensor goes in the supply or return line? And does the fuel need to flow thru the sensor in a particular direction? Another great video man, Thank you!

Think there is a flow direction, can't remember for sure, but it can go in supply or return, what ever it's easiest

Did u have to cut the flared piece off the flex sensor in order for the union to butt up against the sensor? I trying to do this myself and the Unions I have don't slide all the way past that flared part on the sensor. Any info be much appreciated. Thanks

Not all have the connector from the factory already done you have to wire back to the ecm.

Adding a flex sensor to my 2009 Silverado. Did you cut any off the sensor legs that accept the flare fitting in order to use the compression fittings?

I have a custom tuned Sierra 5.3L (93 Octane). I currently have the sensor installed and enabled, but the stoich fuel tables haven't been updated yet. Could I start running E85 in this configuration? I would update the tables myself but I have a Diablo tuner and don't believe its possible with this tuning platform.

If I installed my flex sensor and enabled it to verify alcohol content in my 93 but never populated any of the other tables and would it eventually start making the car run lean under throttle?

@@GoatRopeGarage disabled the sensor…back on 100% original file still goes lean adding throttle…won’t add fuel under throttle above 12-1400rpm unless it’s on decel…idles right near 14.7 have a permanent p015c code even with two brand new upstreams…no blow by, no oil burn…time to do a leak down/compression test 😩

Why do you need to do any tuning for a stock vehicle? I figured once you turn it on and the sensor it should recognize the amount of alcohol automatically and tune too it. It is it just that a factory tune for that isn’t already setup because it’s off.

I'm seriously wanting to run my .20 over 95 Saturn Sl2 , dual intake cam, 15 PSI turbo build, just for the added power and anti-knock characteristics of E85! Does that work for all GM models? I know the ECM I'm buying has it in the program to run either E 85 or Gasoline.

I'm slightly baffled... I enabled flex fuel and changed to sensor, but I don't have an option for minimum and maximum percentages under "inference". Just "comp change threshold"

What I don't get is why would you tune the base timing map instead of the flex fuel map let's say you got into a position where you can't have access to e85 since you tuned the base maps instead of flex fuel maps now you have high timing degrees for a pump gas whether it's 93 or 95 or whatever right ? So you either stop the car until you have e85 or just put your standard pump gas and get knock and possibly break something

Flex fuel map has been updated for ideal timing advance for flex fuel burn, the rest is still done via base timing.

I have a 2015 Cadillac Escalade and was wondering if this can be done ? I have the unions , tube cutters and e85 sensor but Escalade don’t have the wire harness plug like the trucks do ? Thanks Any information is appreciated

If you don't have the plug you'll have to wire it back to the ecm, going to be a bit more involved.

He covers that in the video. Common sense also covers that, because ALL gasoline in America has up to 10% ethanol content.

I am correct with thinking I can put the L96 in my car and still can use the flex fuel option. I thought the gen IV moved the sensor to the rails instead of in the tank. Is this correct?

As far as I know, but you can install a sensor anywhere and bring it back to the ECU to the correct terminal

@@GoatRopeGarage okay. Now...to just figure out what the correct pin is. Edit: I'm guessing it is x2:52. The description just says "low reference (L96)" on allData. It's the only one that specifically calls out L96 rpo.

Where would the dongle be if it were to have it? 2012 l96? Or would it be taped off in the harness wrap?

You'll have to add it to the ecm harness, look it to for your ecm and there will be plenty of guides that explain which pin it is.

I bought a 02 Ws6 that was previously tuned on E85. It does not have this sensor. Why is it needed?

You don't see long as you know that your getting the correct blend of E85, but if you're not buying it by the barrel you're probably not

Is there a way to add all this to a stock ecu that isn't ready for it? My truck, you know the odd ball, I've turned it to run on a 35% ethanol blend. Problem is that it's a pain in my ass blending fuel and not being able to to just stop at a gas station.

If it's Gen IV or Gen V you can easily enough and then just enable it on your tune. Gen III can be a bit more complicated as not all ECMs supported flex fuel

Hello GRG! Question on Flex Fuel Sensor conversion. Been looking into this for my 09 z06... my question is does the e85 hurt the stock gm fuel pump? What about stock z06 injectors? Anything else to worry about? Or can I literally just buy a sensor pig tale harness run to power ground an Ecm, enable with HP tuners an be on my way?

Not sure about the '09's so you might want to check the Vette forums. The consensus has generally been that the parts are the same for the E85 upgrade but there is a chance the Z06 isn't included in the group.

Goat Rope Garage - Sounds good. I have done some Quick forum searches nothing indepth seems abit mixed. Some say the fuel pump wont last long, and injectors may not be strong enough. Others say injectors are fine fuel pump is undetermined. Lol so basically what i have found so far is just shops that want to sell upgraded parts say YES u need the better pump an injectors... but no data to prove anything..

Look at your injector duty cycle on a WoT pull, if it exceeds 70% at any point your injectors aren't going to flow enough. Probably the same for the fuel pump, don't remember off the top of my head but you sold be able to log your fuel pressure and see if it shows signs of struggling up top, your pressure should be steady to a couple of pounds. What's the end goal on your Vette? You will probably end up in the same boat either way where you need more fuel but if you're going to eventually go forced induction if probably steer clear of E85 and go meth injection. If you're staying NA E85 is pretty nice but you used up your spare overhead real quick.

Goat Rope Garage - End Goal honestly i plan to stay NA just a bigger cam. Currently I am running stock cam, just AHP stage IV heads milled .030 fully race hand ported, NW 102, fully ported stock intake done by Peaks Performance there radical port intake, full exhaust no cats 1 7/8” to 3” collector 3” xpipe all the way straight pipe no mufflers its LOUD! Lol

Yeah, I don't see how you wouldn't need to upgrade the fuel system for E85, but you're probably close to needing to anyhow! I can only imagine how loud! Sounds like a cool car.

E85 is trash. Turns out it isn't any better for the environment and the discount of 10 cent per gallon doesn't make up for the loss in mileage.

That’s not why people are tuning with it. It’s effective octane is like 106. It’s race gas at the pump
