How To: Enable Flex Fuel/E85 on your Gen4 LS

Forgot to mention how not to start you car on fire:
1) Install Flex Fuel Sensor First
2) Start engine and check for leaks! Don't burn your car down!
3) Drive it around and then check for leaks again!
4) Use the scanner to log the alcohol PID to ensure the ECM is getting data
4) Then update the tune....

great videos... with the delay volume and transition volume they can be played with depending on where the sensor is mounted, if its close to the engine then lower or if its further away then larger numbers, and also fuel system type as the transition volume is how much fuel the engine will consume before it changes so if u have a deadhead system or a through rails and return style that will affect each differently, the max and min ethanol percentage is what u want the flex tables to see as the max or min for there blending, as u mentioned the default for failure u like as e10 and because of the timing but ill just add that i run e85 alot so i set mine to about 70% ethanol so if im running e85 and it fails it dosnt lean it out 30% going back to almost petrol id rather it stay good for ethanol and be richer if i was on petrol so i will notice it when driving, alot of this tuning stuff is about the understanding of the tables and ur picture/descriptions are very good for visualizing it which i think will help newbies and i sure would have like it the many years ago at the beginning, keep it up thanks 😁😁

I new clicking on this video was going to be a mistake as soon as that crazy long disclaimer popped up lol all people want to know is what settings in HP tuners one needs changed to run E85 not opinions about why or why not hypothetical.Just need Factual and quick information on what settings to choose to safely flash E85 to my ECM that’s it. I will never get the 3 minutes of my life back I spent watching this SOB.

Great video, just got into doing flex fuel after doing everything for pump gas. As for the spark advance for the flex fuel map, is it a good idea to start with 1 degree across the board and then taking away knock and keep increasing the areas were there is no knock?

one problem with ethanol is that u will be way past peak torque/hp with timing before u will ever see knock, really its best to adjust timing on a dyno where u can see the gains/losses, ethanol dosnt always like an across the board approach it will be area/load specific, if u can find a factory flex tune see what they are like to get an idea

Don't forget, you should be pulling timing at low load with ethanol. I normally will subtract 2-3* at low load. You may need more or less. Also adding timing at high load does not always raise power output. For a 87/e85 tune I will add 2-4* in the mid to high rpm and 4-6ish at low rpm. A 93/e85 may not need but 1-2* or 0.

I have added the flex sensor on my VF2 LS3 commodore. The stock fuel system is good up to E70 i would say. I had a 1/4 mile run with 67% E and the injectors were at 100%. I had made a miatake and it was targeting 0.77 Lambda. If the AFR target was correct 70 would be ok.

There are a lot of variables. I would not assume the fuel system is good to go to E70. Some factors include: your power level, if you have forced induction, what injectors, what fuel pressure (and pump), what was the DA that day at the track, what was the commanded EQ ratio during PE? The good news is that the USA VF's used the Camaro ZL1 fuel pump which has a higher pressure regulator (450 KPA) while the Camaro SS had a 400 KPA regulator. Hopefully the AUS cars also had the ZL1 fuel pump! This will allow you get a little more fuel/HP out of the system.

What I should have said is that the car stock can handle up E70. Probably the injectors being the limiting factor. I will investigate which pump I got. GM loved to screw up Australia so it is probably a lower rating pump.

I added flex fuel the wrong way. then I couldn't drain the flex fuel mixture from my tank, so I had to get the flex fuel sensor to work.
