Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

In the natural young birds have a mother to teach and protect them. That is why we were taught to dip their beaks in water as soon as they are delivered, provide proper age appropriate feed and water in bounty in appropriate dispensers and give them dry, safe and warm housing.

My father in law raised turkeys and I know turkeys are very skittish. You can drive by a turkey farm and roll your window down and yell out "gobble gobble" and then all 20,000 of them would gobble at the same time. Oh yes, Minnesotan here!

Kudos to Oakdale Farm and Ferndale Market for their transparency. As a range turkey grower in Southern Missouri I know first hand the risks involved in growing birds on pasture. The USDA definition of "free range" is a small enclosure next to a barn that the birds can access. I especially applaud this family for not trying to pass that model off as if the birds were out on an extensive range or pasture. Your integrity is refreshing. May you prosper for many more generations. Jim Protiva

They do say never work with children or animals but doesn't it make for great entertainment , seen the last turkey video and this one is just as good . It's always great to listen to people who are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about what they do. That lady sure does speak well to camera... Maybe she could make a few videos with you about the poultry industry... Egg to plate. Farming has so many aspects, no harm in having a few champions across the different sectors.. Does make great fertilizer.... Some neighbours use it. We use all the prawn(shrimp) shells we can get, Think it's also good for fungus resistance in plants

This brings back memories when I worked at the turkey farm south of West Concord, MN, back in about 1996. We were working in egg production. Good video - it brought back a lot of memories . . . I can almost smell that ammonia smell when we cleaned out the poop. (We had to wear those chem. masks, it was so bad!) I much prefer working on the traditional family farm I grew up on, where we had about 50 head of black angus beef cattle, 100+ chickens, 27 or so sheep, lots and lots of hogs, etc. on about 500 acres.

Those may not be free range turkeys, but Emma sure is a free range kid! This is a great video to show people that have issues with non free range animals. This family only has the best interests of their flocks in mind. When you thing about it why would any farmer raise their means of income in a less then ideal environment. Zack this I am sure is why you are making these videos to point the camera at the reality of farming of different types. Manly to combat the misinformation out there. As an ex slaughterhouse worker I have always wished that everyone that eats meat gets to see the process so they understand that the grocery stores doesnt just magically pull steaks out of thin air. Its a lot of work and love that goes into feeding American families. As always thanks for the content and I look forward to the second channel with even more content. Happy Thanksiving.

Thanks Zack, that trip down memory lane for me my second job after leaving school was working on broiler farms, i understood all they were saying and doing, only issue would have been not cleaning out the last shed every time they took the birds to the processing plant, we had to empty the sheds, the thing was they held 17,000 birds every time and there were 12 sheds on the farm. I have fond memories of those days, thank you again Zack.

Hey Zach thanks for the great video. As a retired chicken farmer that was contracted with Perdue Farms in Ky I know exactly what they are talking about. Fund fact: On turkey farms you need to really stay on top of rain gutters.. When its raining, range birds will stand under a leaking gutter on a pen and look up and open their mouths and drown. They also do not like to walk on burlap bags so when they load and unload the birds all they have to do is lay down burlap bags to guide them into the pens. If everyone stopped talking for a second then do the gobble gobble then the turkeys would of responded. I was involved with turkey farms for 10 years.

I like these tours. I can remember going to my grandfather's farm in north central Minnesota. He had a dairy farm with about 40 head that he milked, they were very involved in 4H. Small operation I know, he moved from South Dakota where he started to farm with his father on the original homestead when they opened up the Dakota Territory. Yes, the original homestead is still being farmed today by descendants of my g-grandfather.
