I teach the difference between the verb 기대(를) 하다 and 기대(가) 되다, which both mean “to expect,” “to anticipate,” or “to look forward to.” I also explain which one is used depending on the tense of the sentence, and the different nuances each has.

Billy's grammatical explanation is so nice and I'd like to add one more about its meaning 기대하다 has another meaning "to expect" 그 사람이 다 해 줄 거라고 기대하지 마(=You must not expect him to do everythig for you) 부모님에게 너무 많은 것을 기대하고 있어(=You expect too much from your parents) 기대되다 means " Can't wait" or "look foward to" 와~ 정말 기대돼요! (=Wow, I can't wait!) 그 영화 정말 기대돼요. (=I'm really looking forward to the movie) 그 영화 정말 기대하고 있어요. (=I'm really looking forward to the movie) The progressive tense of 기대하고 있어요 and the present tense of 기대돼요 are the same meaning. But 기대되다 is never used as the meaning "to expect"

Hello Billy, great video again, thank you so much! Topic idea: The different ways to say "to change". I feel like there are so many different verbs used in different contexts and I always mix them up : 변경하다, 바꾸다, 병화시키다, 대체하다, 돌변하다.

I hear 기대돼요 a lot more. Maybe because people talk about their expectations in present tense a lot more.

So, it would be like 다음 영상을 기대하고 있어요 and the other one would kinda be like 그분의 무대가 기대돼요 My spelling may be off but am I on the right track?

Is “되다” at the end of the verb help identify it as a passive verb?
