Reason number #11: Billy is an amazing teacher, and he has been (even if just virtually) somehow a friend for me. I spent a lot of afternoons studying korean with him, and I always had good time. So, if you chose to study korean, you will get to know an amazing person, teacher and friend.

I've been married to a Korean woman nearly 16 years. When visiting Korea, I always have her or my brother-in-law with me as a translator, so I've been a bit lazy in learning the language. However, I want to follow along when listening to music and watching TV even though I already enjoy both with my limited knowledge. Also, I just recently surprised my wife by learning a Korean song that made her cry. Seeing how much that meant to her motivated me to pick up on my studies. I'm counting on your help!

Thank you for this video! I started learning Korean on and off about 9 months ago, and it has been a struggle, but watching this video I feel more energy to throw myself into it again. Learning languages have always been hard for me, I could barely speak English at the end of 4th grade at a passing level due to how I hear sounds. Seeing a positive videos like this, helps kick me back in gear.

Korean is like a dream come true for a logical-minded person like me. even after just learning a little bit, i have a newfound appreciation for just how ridiculous english is. now, i find myself thinking "that doesn't actually make much sense, does it?" allllll the time with english, even though it's my native tongue. korean seems like a language that keeps the speaker's sanity in mind. english just..well, it does english things. i can't imagine what it's like to learn it as a total stranger to it. edit---to anyone out there about to start learning like i did recently, don't treat it like a category 4 language. it's not a task or a chore or an assignment, but a hobby! have fun. relax. don't stress.

Only been studying for a few weeks and I've already experienced some high highs and low lows. I currently live in south korea and will be here for at least another year and a half. I really want to get basic conversation down. My goal is to study an hour daily and take classes. We'll see how it goes 😅

Thank you for the work you do. I just found your channel not long ago because I would like to talk to my mother in law in her native language. She’s amazing so I’m trying to learn and get my kiddos to learn with me. I do wish I had an actual class near me though. 😅

I started learning korean after an interesting business exchange with Samsung. My company sells Industrial storage shelves in Hungary and we specialise in custom orders and Samsung recently relocated to a bigger warehouse and My company supplied them. The experience was interesting and frustrating, everyone kept second guessing and not paying money on time and the back and forth BS. They needed the shelves by September 2022 and they only got them in December 2023. It was all in their control on how fast or slow we go but after having long chats with Koreans I got interested in their culture and gives me more business opportunities. I would recommend for all of you who want to run some kind of business to do some stuff for Korean companies. They pay well 2x more then Domestic.

I started teaching myself Korean two years ago and finally took the plunge this year and took up lessons with Kim Inae, which I've been really enjoying! She actually shared your learning toolkit and so I've started watching your videos and I'm trying out some of the resources you recommend, so thank you! (Also, Worcestershire is Wuss-ter-sher 😂).

My reasons were: 1- 한글 looks so cute, that's the reason I started I just wanted to understand the alphabet, but then 9- with so many learning resources, it's easy to get caught up in the learning process 2- the politeness levels, sentence structure, etc, is so interesting and different that made me curious and keeps me going Later, while learning came the 5- The food is really good, if I hadn't started learning the language, I might not have found it

1 thing I recently realized after studying korean for a while now is that verb conjugation can be easier than other languages since you don't need to conjugate verbs for him/her they/them like other languages.

I always look forward to your videos Billy. They are both entertaining and informative. The "rejected in Korean" part got me hahaha Currently at an intermediate level and reading several books about Korean history, so I am slowly but surely learning a lot and I can vouch for all those great reasons specially the delicious food ordered in Korean haha Thanks again Billy!

Been self studying Korean for the past year using GO! Billy and TTMIK because I wanted to be able to watch my favourite Kdramas without subtitles. Learning Hangeul was easy, grammar has been challenging but I realized, watching my programs, that I catch more words that I can understand. Nice. I recently started learning Japanese, and I think because I am working on Korean with the Hangeul, that it made it easier to learn Hiragana and Katana. Thoroughly enjoy learning new languages. 화이팅!

My daughter got me hooked on BTS back in February 2023. Wanting to understand their songs more, I started my journey of learning Korean… I am now so in love with the entertainment, food, and culture. I want to move to Korea in about 5-10 years and teach English in Korean schools. The only time I listen to American music is if I am in someone else’s car. The only time I watch American tv is if I just need background noise while i am doing housework, or if it’s college football season. I’m half Mexican and half Portuguese but my parents weren’t taught so neither was I. Even though I live in California where learning Spanish would be the most beneficial to me, I am choosing to learn Korean first. And from what I have been learning, I am feeling like I was born into the wrong cultures. Because the Korean culture more aligns with my thoughts and beliefs. 💜

What I got from the video. I am cool. Thank you haha. I have been learning korean for 3 years, to an intermediate level where I can easily have conversations on a variety of subjects and read novels that are on the easier side, but I am still struggling with watching any drama that is not slice of life without at least korean subtitles. I totally agree that starting is the easy part. Past the early beginner level, I realized I was in for a ride. And improving keeps getting more challenging. But there's still just one reason for me that has gotten me started and that keeps me going: it's a lot of fun!

Thank you so much. This video really helps me to keep being motivated and not being too hard on myself for not seeing immediate progress. I am an intermediate learner now, and sometimes it feels like I am just stuck. However I have a question, You talk about how good Korean Food is, and I get it there are some dishes I really enjoy, but what do you do in Korea as a vegetarian who doesn't like spicy food?😅

For me, as a Singaporean and being a country often labelled together with HK, TW and S. Korea as the '4 Asian Tigers', I feel that I know the least about them. I started studying the language in 2019 and is in my 4th year now. I put about 30minutes per day on average on it and recently after covid, visited there for the first time in 3 years. Many of what you said in this video is true and my experience there, after achieving an intermittent level, was unlike any of my previous pre-covid ones. Fun Fact: Your video on Hangul was the one that got me started on the language (in 2018).
