I'm a native Korean speaker and I think you made a good point.. he speaks very low and deep especially towards the end of a sentence. Yeah he does that "vocal fry" which is not common at all in Korea. It's really unique and Korean girls love it about him. Also surprisingly, he's second best in the group at speaking in 전라도 accent besides J hope. Suga can say anything and make it sound just as if he's from 전라도. Probably a very special talent that he has that many people aren't aware of. His 경상도 accent is the least out of the 4 members who are from the same region, probably due to his ability to sound what he wishes to. He seems like he's not bothered in listening to other members but he listens, catches and learns their accent very quick.

i think it's interesting that often Suga will say he doesn't speak in dialect, I guess since he's lived in Seoul for so long and doesn't use a lot of regionalisms in his speech, but you can absolutely still hear his accent. Also the deep voice and no nonsense delivery is something i've come to associate with gyeongsang speech just based off what i hear ppl say in variety shows or livestreams, but maybe i'm mistaken.

Love the reference to "Paldogangsan" 🥰 It's a very fun satoori rap song where they debate about the coolest dialect! I love Yoongi's voice and delivery so much (not to mention his beautiful lyricism, he's an excellent storyteller/character writer, mostly autobiographical/anecdotal, emotional outburst in nature, I can go on and on but imma stop coz it's not the focus now 🥲LoL ) he just deliver heavy emotions so well, if you feel like your heart is numb listen to his songs coz you'll feel the pain, anger, sorrow, melancholy, longing so so much. I always feel breathless, chest tight, listening not because he's fast (not all his songs he raps fast) but because he pulls my emotional energy so much. But at the same time, Yoongi has very soothing and comforting voice & delivery when he's calm, and very very adorable ramblings when he's excited. Just an endearing human all in all. @@PratishthaPatny lol that would be my pleasure... what aspect do u want to talk abt? 😁 for starters, an army's dad gave yoongi a new nickname "lil cat rapper"... the list of yoongi nicknames is very long now... I just find it so endearing that our capable 30 yr-old man who have a silent but fierce spirit, a bit mischievous, sometimes savage & stoic is equally seen as warm and adorable... his personality also reflects a lot in the style of his music... another army dad story, the dad was asking abt the "tiny one" in BTS, army thought he was referring to our jimin mochi, but no, he was actually referring to Yoongi coz jimin is the "fabulous one" accdg to him. It just makes me happy that more people are seeing yoongi's delicate soft fluffy sides w/c he always had, it was so sad when he's always stereotyped as "savage, cold guy" when he's so much more than that. What kind of person do they think who wrote songs that gives so much emotions and vulnerability and that people can relate to, and that gives hope and comfort? I have heard that in his youth as a street rapper and writer he was cheated on multiple times and not paid for his writing. I believe he also sustained an injury doing a side hustle of scooter food delivery while he was an intern, and he still kept doing the extremely difficult dance practices without showing his pain. He possibly wasn’t originally so straight faced, but life experience created a bit of stoicism in his manner for his own protection.

Those things are true, he also had many disagreements with his parents due to his choice of career, and he spoke once about how his father was very caring but didn't really waste his time on flowery words or such. Your Korean is amazing. I am especially impressed with how easily you read Korean and how in-depth you go when explaining vowel and consonant usage. I am a writer also, so when you broke down RM's use of language in another video, I very much related to your and his speech pattern. I also do not know in what order one should begin learning, i.e. learning to write/read in Korean versus speaking Korean. I have subscribed to your channel and smashed the notification(s) bell. I remember that years ago suga said that one day he just learned how to translate what taehyung is saying and he actually did so. I am pretty sure i‘ve seen yoongi interpreting what tae tried to express to the members which is hilarious to me. I tend to also kinda struggle with delivering my sentences in a way others understand me. It‘s something I am even insecure about. Since I know what I mean when saying it but others probably don’t.

For me Suga is the most difficult to understand, although his words are short and concise he speaks really fast, wavy and barely moves his mouth lol. It’s interesting because he makes a lot of pauses making him look like he speaks slowly, but once he pronounces the word it comes out fast. For me RM even though he uses a more advanced vocabulary and grammar, he gives me enough words to understand the topic and I do feel mesmerized by his refined way of speaking… funny enough I do tend to speak in a more complex way in my native language “Spanish” just like RM even though I spend a lot of time with friends who have distinctive dialects. Also another funny thing is that even though I have a hard time understanding dialects (most of times I think they sound bad hehe) I love spending time with my friends who speak it and watching BTS who speak their own native dialects. As for Korean what I noticed is that the Busan dialect sounds either violent or mostly funny to me and the one from Daegu is my favorite, I love how it sounds, it’s hard for me to understand but I love the rhythm of it; it’s really interesting because even Koreans have a difficult time differentiating those two dialects and I instantly either laugh at one or get completely blush at the sound of the other ;;

This is so so informational! I'm adoring this series so much, I especially love learning about satoori, and how each member uses it! Yoongi is my bias so this video was really awesome to watch hehe, I've always found his voice very soothing and easy to listen to, but do struggle the most to understand him fully. I'm semi-fluent and still struggle sometimes, but that just means I'll know I've gotten better when I can understand him better! Thank you for these videos!

i just discovered this video, yoongi has been my ultimate bias for almost eleven years. by chance, i discovered that i speak like him, even though I come from another continent. i dont know whether to laugh or cry about this. his way of speaking resembles the speech of north-eastern Italy, where i live and am originally from, a bit hilarious given that he comes from south-eastern Korea :").

Yay, my bias! Yeah, Suga is a pretty straightforward, no-nonsense kind of guy (except when he's being nonsensical, of course, especially with J-Hope). The younger members sometimes tease him about being the "grandpa" of the group, I think in part because he has this slightly more old-fashioned way of expressing himself. I really appreciate your insights on his way of communicating. It took me quite a while to realize his hiss/slurp sound just meant "pause for thought," because in English that kind of slow indrawn breath through the teeth is more often associated with doubt: "Think the boys will get that new roof closed in before it rains?" "*hiss*...maybe." (Translation: "probably not, but I'm being charitable.") So when I heard Suga doing that, I initially thought he was doing it to subtly negate something he'd said, which left me... a bit confused. :) Thanks for clearing that up! Your comment about Gyeongsang Province's "wave-like" intonation interested me particularly, because one of the things I find really appealing about his rap is the musicality of it-- his flow incorporates a lot of variations in pitch that are like nothing I'd ever heard before in rap. I've often wondered if it was an outgrowth of his speech (because, as you noted, he talks that way, too), or if he was borrowing from a traditional Korean musical or storytelling style (because he's very proud of his heritage and uses a lot of traditional Korean sounds in his music.) I'll also mention-- when he REALLY leans into the dialect, it's usually because he's deliberately imitating his dad-- like here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fH7RZp2kapZjns0 . Jungkook ALSO imitates Yoongi's dad, which the whole group finds hilarious-- here's another example from Krystal: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2HUiKRnrcqAq8U )

I’m so excited for tae’s turn. He has his own thing called “taetae language” and even the other members have a hard time understanding him sometimes. I’ve always suspected it was because of his dialect.

suga aka yoongi is easy to understand what he is trying to say if you know him well enough but he is not one to show his emotions yoongi is straight forward with what he is trying to say with less words as possible. He is also introverted. So he doesn’t really like talking to people but yoongi is a man of many talents he is a very serious man but a goofy guy he is really gentle with kookie . I can relate to him more than the other members with not talking about my true emotions 😊

I dont follow BTS much but ive been drawn to Suga. Especially when I listened to him as August D. I think Im 100 percent intrigued by him after this especially how much I relate to his personality. On another note, this is the first video I watched from you and I throughly enjoyed it. You are very clear and the use of korean and english subtitles help a lot. Im currently learning Korean and will be watching more of your channel along my journey.
