The biggest problem that Sierra Leone and most struggling african nations have is their own corrupt leadership. I guarantee you there is no competition for chicken imports because that Lebanese importer is kicking back a huge yearly % to the minister of finance or some parliamentarian etc. the same thing goes for why the mineral and resource ownership and trade goes the way it does.

Tanzania used to import chicken from Australia prior to independence and right after independence. My dad was in College in the 60s, he says all the chicken they fed them was from Australia. I also remember in the 80s, live baby chickens were flown in from Australia and people who had farms would purchase these chickens at the airport. Then in the late 80s, a big chicken plant was opened in DAR ES SALAAM. So it's a step by step process. Sierra Leone will get there at some point.

This is a totally misleading title. I bet you that 99 percent of locals in Sierra Leone do not purchase frozen chicken. Most people will buy chicken that is alive and kill it in their yard the same day and cook it right away. All you have to do is walk through the market and you will see chicken being sold alive alongside fruits, vegetables and other condiments. Those frozen chicken are sold into places where westerners shop and served into restaurants where westerners go. No local food place will go buy frozen chicken imported from Europe. It will cost more than local chicken. The title is totally misleading because it implies that majority of sierra Leonean consume frozen chicken imported from Europe. Just not true. They can't afford it. And also, you may not like the way Sierra Leoneans cook their chicken. They first fried it then add it to the stew and cook it with the rest of the condiments like Okra stew, Cassava leaves stew, Krain Krain stew, potato leaves stew and so on. So the chicken will taste dry. But that is their style of cooking chicken.

I think this is the same Lebanese guy with his Nigerian partners who tried and attempted this in Ghana some years ago and got caught by the authority for importing about 3 containers or more of old rotten chicken that was meant to be destroyed. He escaped from Ghanaian authorities and I believe he is still wanted in Ghana. His father also run away from Ghana during our military government time for very bad business he was doing. This lebanese guy is really bad and I don't think he can come back to Ghana. But the problem is the Africans too, the people always want and prefer foreign or imported frozen chicken because they think it's better than their locally bred ones. There are lots of poultry farmers and they are now struggling because of the foreign import chicken because most people go for that and a few eat the local chicken. This import chicken comes not only from Europe but America and Brazil too. Others have been caught trying this in most countries. The African chicken is really good and tasty and I don't know why they even have to import, but my understanding is, the more import, the more taxes the government gains so they encourage this and this has actually collapsed the African agriculture because now most of the food Africans eat comes from Europe America and South America.

@@enod9746 Wow, so Nigeria doesn't import chicken? Wow. That's news. Well I do not know their names as they are not my friends and even if I did this wouldn't be a place of mentioning that. Besides I am not here to attack anyone but explaining an incident which occurred that we heard about some years ago. Why would I waste my time to attack Nigerians. What do I gain from doing this ? I have no I'll intentions against any fellow human being. You said it as if I get paid to do so. For what reason can you ask yourself if I had to just wake-up and talk against someone or some people?

Imagine the policeman asking a dying George Floyd" Why can't you breathe" while kneeling on his neck and suffocating him. If you have Lebanese and Indians and soon Chinese( will show up) kneeling on the necks of the people of Sierra Leone how can they compete. One must do like Sir Robert Mugabe ' Open up an area for Sierra Leones to trade with each other. Give them small business loans, stimulus packages while restricting the foreigners from participating.....like a stock exchange , a Business Financial Center until such timethat the sierra Leones catch up economically with the squatters and then let them compete together. But the weak cannot engage the strong in a contest where the strong has the overall advantage. If the foreigners protest tell them to leave especially if they are not supporting the development of the country. Remember" You cannot have equality using unequal devices . Level the playing field.

Promote agricultural farms to produce vegetables and meat. It is possible and essential! Co-financing of such projects is encouraged with the African Development Bank (AfDB). The diaspora must think about it and join forces with young local entrepreneurs. But, we must clarify the situation with the leaders of the country because the Lebanese have taken Africa hostage thanks to them!

97% of the food that sierraleoneans consume is imported, even the staple food RICE is imported. The main importers are the Lebanese and Indians. It's been like this for decades. It's not that Sierraleoneans themselves don't want to be growing their own crops or import things themselves, it's mainly to do with politics. In Sierra leone everything is about politics. The politicians are in the pockets of these so called importers. They (importers)determined the price control. That's why prices of goods change on a regularly basis, because they are in control. Sierra leone is surrounded by the Atlantic ocean, yet still the average man cannot afford to buy fish, because its that expensive. The fishing boats are mainly own by foreigners who export majority of their catch into Europe. Nobody can change that narrative. Except Sierraleoneans themselves.
