This is the most comprehensive and easy to follow video on replacing iPhone 5 power button. Other short videos just give instruction and do not show actual parts and screws and that leads to confusion and (potentially unrecoverable) error. Great video and keep it up. That said, even following the video, it took about 4 to 5 hours to...mainly because everything is so tiny and fragile, and it's hard to take things apart and put them back in.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that a machine does this at the factory. Definitely high on the difficulty or at least tedium scale but if you pulled it off take a bow. Not many have the patience for it.
@johnim18 жыл бұрын
To be honest, after I took it all apart, I had low confidence that it can be put back together in working condition. I lost track of few screws in and ended up with 3 screws that wouldn't fit. LOL. But in the end, the phone actually worked, and the power button was really fixed. I paid $3 for the power button from China. The only problem is volume button feel like they are locked and do not work. I just ordered a replacement LCD digitizer assembly, and when I will try to fix the volume button while replacing the LCD. Any hints on why the volume buttons feel like they are stuck. They don't click. Thanks.

I've seen that happen with housing replacements and backing one or both screws off about a quarter of a turn might help. If you notice that makes a difference try playing with them until the buttons feel right.

Oh my gosh, you helped me and my dad soooo much, we followed you every step of the way. And then came the final push of the power button...The Apple logo showed!!!! And it butted up flawlessly!! That was my first iphone repair (wife's) and your video made my life soooo much easier! Well explained, no background music, just perfect! Other videos on youtube show the dudes disassemble the thing but they never get it back together and you just can't go in reverse, there is so much more to look after! Thanks again, I owe you a beer, lemme know how I can at least donate a few bucks

Just finished fixing an iphone power button, with added battery change, all thanks to this fantastic walkthrough. Fortunately it seems flex cables these days have the metal clips attached so didn't have to mess around with a soldering gun. Excellent guide, very thorough and I can only hope I don't have to fiddle with tiny screws again for a long time to come.

Thank you. That's actually the main reason that I started this channel. A lot of people show how to take something apart but re-assembly is not always as easy as "just do the revers of this process".

Absolutely perfect. Thanks for explaining why you're doing things, and reminding me to reconnect certain parts first. Some videos only show the tear down. Putting it back together is tricky too.

Hi, it's a shame you don't ship internationally. This was an excellent walkthrough, I used this to fix my power button, replacing the battery and screen along the way. I'd never done anything this intricate before but it worked perfectly... ended up having fun! Thanks for taking a good amount of time and describing the situation clearly (eg. one of the most important points, don't fully tighten switch screws).

Thank you. I am a newby. Your video presentation is very clear. You are obviously a very patient person for a start, which is very crucial important for your tutorial which is watched by viewers who are not necessarily all tech savvy and experienced in the field. You have all required to explain the every bits and pieces' dos and don't s, to avoid future disaster(s) for beginner like me. Only one slight suggestion if I may, at certain stage, the object moved away from the center camera, which resulting of getting more of your left hand. Suggestion: before you start, wouldn't it be better to draw a rectangle outline the same size of the phone itself on table so your presentation will always stays on the camera focus. I enjoyed your presentation. Thank you so much

Thank you very much for the comment and suggestion. I try to keep everything in view as much as possible these days by paying closer attention to the camera. This video was recorded quite a while back and could have been better in a few different places. The audio in particular makes me cringe a bit but I'm glad that you found it somewhat helpful.

Awesome video man. Love the fact you go all the way through the repair as opposed to just the disassembly. My iPhone 5 is supposed to be eligible for the program, but since it's 3 years and a month after the date of sale, I'm a month out of the warranty and Apple would want well over $300 for the repair. I'm reasonably handy with tools and modelling, so this is something I can do. Whether I want to...that's a different story. Going to look and see what the local shops want to charge for this.

there are many videos I found on this topic, but none was so well in explaining how to deal with power button, which in my opinion is a real pain. Thank you. And yes it is best to test power button clicks before doing anything further. Otherwise you risk wasting quite a bit of time.

Wow. Absolute rock. Most difficult phone repair I've done. Only took me 3 hours! Video is brilliant though, don't look at any of the 5 minute ones on this site where they miss out every other screw. Also, if you have sausage fingers or the DTs or both, then do not attempt, just throw phone in landfill.

My old iPhone 5's lock button wasnt working and neither was the speaker and was just out of the 3 year warranty. Followed your guide and it now works perfectly! Regarding the ear speaker i found that the screw holding it in place was loose so it worked fine once tightened. Took me around 2 hours, didnt use any of the adhesive coz i didnt have any and only lost 1 screw lol! Thank you very much!

Great video! I followed all ur steps and I'm having problems with the silent/loud button.. The button itself works properly as far as moving up and down but it doesn't do anything as far as going back and forth from silent to loud.. Any suggestions? The power button is fixed though and working properly!
@GoCellPhoneRepair10 жыл бұрын
Sometimes that piece can be difficult to install properly. Can you confirm that the outer part is actuating the switch? If it isn't aligned properly it may seem like it is switching back and forth but not really moving the part that controls the function. Probably the best thing to do is remove that pat of the flex cable and test to see if it works right before it is inside of the phone. If there is a problem with your replacement part you don't want to waste time thinking that it was installed improperly. If it does in fact work then it has to have ended up in the wrong position when you installed it. Also just to confirm you aren't seeing any indication on the phone screen that shows the muted speaker icon correct?

Jesus Christ. I have to thank you so much. I had never opened an iphone before. Except to change the batterry. And I opened it that time. Because I tought it was dead. And found out the baterry was not plugged in correctly. I had bought a new one. And when I decided to open it, found out I just needed to connect it properly. I dropped it so many times. Now... My power button did not work properly. And saw lots of videos on youtube that said that cleaning it from the outside with alcohol improved it. Well... I wanted to go all out and clean it correctly so it works correctly, not improved. So I found your video. And I got scared when I had all the parts out, and I was like... Holly shit, Im I gonna be able to put it back together. And I followed your steps. And at the end pressed the power button. And saw the apple logo come up. Cant describe the satisfaction. Regardless of if the cleaning of the power button (wich was terribly dirty inside) fixed my issue or not, now I am confident that I can repair my iphone, and if I have to replace the all chip for the power, I know I can. So, Sir. Seriously. Thank you very much. You have teached me so much with this video. And... The phone is on. Now I will see if the cleaning of the power button fixed my issue... I will let you know in a few seconds. Thank you so much.

I've replaced a home button on the 3gs before and now that the power button is gone on my iphone 5 I was thinking of repairing myself since I dont live in a country that has apple repairmen. After looking at this video though, I'm not so confident about taking it on anymore. Sigh. I hate the virtual button to lock the screen etc. Plus following any crash or anything, I need to plug up to power the phone on. Looks like I'll be stuck with it this way for a while unless I end up feeling confident enough to tackle this repair.

Perfect seeks e video. Not gonna lie, this was probably the hardest repair I've done on the iPhone 5. Also.... After I replaced the power flex cable, my wifi antenna seems really weak. It only picks up signal for wifi when I'm standing 1ft away from the modem, could I have ripped the antenna? You think if I replace that now it will solve it? Because it was working perfectly rly gone prior to replacing the power cable
@GoCellPhoneRepair9 жыл бұрын
Exhalerr r Are you ytalking about the wire that attaches to the back of the logic board? If that was damaged then yes your WIFI signal will be very weak. They are pretty easy to replace.

Yes. I remember I had a hard time glueing the power flex cable trying to not glue on top on the antenna when it goes around the little screw. I might have damaged it then. datguyoverdere12 Ah I see. I was thinking of something else. There is a flash attached to the camera. It's that little yellow thing right next to the camera. You can try disconnecting the new cable and then plug the phone in to turn it on. See if it is still running slow. The power button control cable should not cause that to happen but a software update might.

☆Official_TIH / ITz-TIH__ ☆XBL:HitLikeAverage The front facing camera cable is very fragile. If you can take a close look at it like under a magnifying glass you might be able to see if it was torn during the repair. They are pretty cheap if you need to buy a replacement though.

@GoCellPhoneRepair9 жыл бұрын
+Cinematographist21 The process is similar but different as there are variations in the part which of course is model specific so make sure you get a 5S cable. The adhesive under the battery is much stronger on the 5S so destroying your battery is a risk also. Be sure to wear eye protection if you are removing it. You should plug the cable in and test it before getting too far into the repair. If the problem is not in your cable you may end up wasting a lot of time.

Why are my lock and wallpaper (background) photos blurry, but not the apps? How do I get rid off that problem?

What size is the torx tool you used to remove the bottom 2 screws? T5?
@GoCellPhoneRepair10 жыл бұрын
Those are pentalobe screws. Please do not use a torx as you will strip them. I have added a link to the part on the page in the video description. You can also find them at Fry's Electronics but hardware stores do not carry them.

Hi, I installed the flex, but I am having trouble with the vibrate button. The button doesn't click at all. Please let me know.Thanks
@GoCellPhoneRepair10 жыл бұрын
You can try adjusting the screws or remove and re-install the switch. If it doesn't move then something is not lined up right.

I have followed your video exactly and when I try plugging my phone it has short one second vibrations separated by 5 seconds of nothing no screen .... what did i do wrong... can you help me please MR Phone Guy???
@GoCellPhoneRepair10 жыл бұрын
That does not sound good. Have you already tried a different charger *and* block? If that doesn't help I would then disconnect the battery. If you aren't confident/proficient with phone repair consider finding some assistance. It's most likely a grounding issue, improper connection, or defective replacement part. If you choose to proceed the fist thing to do is look carefully at everything connection. Try unplugging the main flex that controls the lock and volume buttons and see if you get the same result. Then try removing the display and see if it happens. You have to isolate what is causing the symptom and go from there.

My dad says a sheet or stencil type item would be very useful to keep track of the screws, and he would buy anything you come up with for repairs :)

Can you stil feel it click when you press on it? If not then it is not aligned properly or the little black "nipple" has come off. If that's the case you'll need to replace it again. If the button is just stuck try removing and re-installing it. It can be a pain I know.

Hi, if a power button on iphone 5 is not working, would this cause the home button to malfunction also?
@GoCellPhoneRepair8 жыл бұрын
It shouldn't.

Gayan Chathuranga Well thank you very much. Some people don't like my videos but I suspect just as many don't like their own situation or maybe they don't like the way that Apple designed the phone so what can you do? From what I've seen though a down vote is better for ranking than no vote at all. I should probably thank them for taking the time to add some form of interaction even if they think that they are being negative haha.

Very easy to follow. I had a "F***, what have I done" moment when I'd taken it all apart but it really wasn't that hard to put back together. Instead of a soldering iron, I heated up the flat head screw driver to melt the little plastic parts of the mute switch.
