I like Ares' tears here- it really does feel like he's more focused on Ody's failure to protect his crew. That he's more motivated by the fact that Ody failed his men as a commander and sacrificed their lives rather than fighting back. Scylla may be a monster even the Gods fear but Ares values loyalty and honor over survival and that shows.

Also Aphordite's smile when Athena rushes her, pretty sure she had long since decided to free Odysseus (she's the goddess of Love and she enjoys a good Love story) But she wanted Ares on board as well. She knew Athena would never hurt her because Ares would never allow it- much like how Ody would do anything to return to penelope (and bring bloodshed to protect her)

@@witchyruin8747yeah, she gave a smile; knowing full well that she was in no danger… her lover, Ares, would never allow it. In the fight he showed himself faster and stronger than Athena in direct confrontation which is why she needed a strategy to defeat him. (The owl followed by the rush at the ‘vulnerable’ Aphrodite) At that point Ares had gotten his complaints out and Aphrodite let him know it was okay with that hug.

@@benjaminklaassen4722 To be honest this was my favorite ares, so many depictions we see him as terrified of athena at the end This one doesn't show fear, just admission of defeat and frustation. He is bold enough to catch her spear with bare hands, causing him to bleed. Ares is not supposed to take cover, he is the first one that would die if olympos was attacked by something, he is the soldier that is at war.

This animatic really showed off the difference between Ares and Athena when it comes to combat. Many of the animatics I saw have Athena simply overpower Ares, but Athena engaged in trickery/strategy in order to get the upper hand. Ares maintained his dignity and even showed off another side to him besides violence. Well done.

​@@Strawberrykoal Not really Are is a God of war but he embodied the uglier aspect of war like brutality, bloodsher, chaos and the like while Athena was supposed to embody the aspect of war that bring glory to commanders like strategy and cunning. Thats why there were many, many characterisation for both God, one I really like was that Athena was a God of war for Heroes since she teaches them how to win in the future and Ares was the God of war for common people because he give them strength to fight in the moment for what they feel is right But if I remember correctly Ares was never characterized as someone who cared about thing like loyalty and there are many myth were Ares is getting punished as part of the story morals, but the thing with Ares is that he always gets back on his feet

⁠@@drakkaryx6710oh yeah, having a champion hurt Aphrodite, even a little cut on the wrist, had probably set him off way back in the Trojan War. Had she struck Aphrodite, without mortals and outside involvement here… I don’t think they’d have both walked away. The Greeks would have been left with a single god of war. (Though Zeus would have probably intervened as he favored Athena over Ares.) And the hug at the end, the comfort of the lover to the soldier at war… it hits hard.

What I haven't seen in any other animatic that i FUCKING LOVE is how you portrayed Ares and Aphrodite's relationship. They have a child that symbolizes mutual love in greek mythos, and in general a Deity of Love and a Deity of War is a very fun combo, but I rarely ever see emphasis put on the fact they're, in mythos, extremely fond of each other. This animatic all around is utterly mesmerizing, and imo my absolute favourite in the fandom. There's way too many things to list to love about this.

Think it was more because she realized that in direct confrontation Ares had the upper hand, considering he had literally just battered her to the floor. In a 1v1 void, Ares can probably defeat Athena in hand to hand combat… but battle is never in a void, tactics are used to win.

Everyone is rightfully praising you for the moment of Ares protecting Aphrodite but I am completely OBSESSED with the decision to portray Aphrodite's magic as tears/forced empathy, especially with it affecting both the war gods throughout their whole fight. It makes her feel so powerful, even if she isn't so in the same way as the war gods. You managed to so incredibly convey lore and personality and a whole damn story in just over a minute, I'm in absolute awe.

the attention to detail on this animatic is INSANE! i love the part where athena acts as if shes going to attack aphrodite because its clearly a trap for ares. she basically broadcasts exactly what shes going to do with the spear point and then in one of the frames you can see shes even looking back to make sure ares is chasing her before she swings. it really emphasizes that athena is more of the strategist between her and ares AAA so amazing

Absolutely love how the dynamics between them three worked, Athena appealed to Aphrodite’s heart by showing vulnerability (helmet off, kneeling before her, begging) but as soon as Ares got involved she knew she hadn’t had the time (or perhaps the battle prowess 1 on 1) to take on Ares, so she played it smarter than him and attacked Aphrodite knowing fully well Ares would rather protect her than risk it It’s also amazing how calm Aphrodite looks about being nearly speared! Either because she knows Athena wouldn’t hurt her or because she knows Ares would never let her be hurt in his presence :3

Something I love about this animatic is how powerless Athena is against Ares in a straight up fair fight. Ares *should* be stronger then Athena, his domain is that of the soldier on the ground bathed in the blood of his enemies. Athena holding her own and getting the upper hand through strategy and quick thinking also falls in line with her domain. I love it cause it keeps them both feeling powerful. The're both gods of war, they should be equal and opposite to each other. We don't get a lot of stories where Ares gets the respect he deserves (I blame Athens) so seeing him kicking ass *in his own domain* is fire!

As seen in Hesiod's "Theogony", Homer's "Iliad", Pindar's "Odes", Aeschylus' "Eumenides" and others, the people over time came to make Athena representative of various aspects of war, such as fighting techniques, strategy, and even forging. She is also depicted as being strong enough to defeat the giants and giving strength to her soldiers. Athena and Ares represent the "good" and "bad" sides of war, but war is war, and the power of the goddess of war is not diminished by "famous features".But war is war, and the power of the goddess of war is not diminished by "famous features". There is no such thing as a person who is too smart to be strong. However, I understand that some people want the goddess to be weak in virtual mythology as well. Still, I wanted to show the story of Athena to those who are interested.

Yes, this! They have a dignity and respect here that you never see in the other animatics. Aphrodite especially; shifting the focus from being "ultrasexual" to that intense emotion and fear of her judgement makes her feel incredibly powerful - which is neatly accentuated by how easily she affects the other war gods! Additionally, Athena doesn't really "beat" them, does she? Saying a broken heart can mend doesn't exactly help Odysseus' mother who is already dead.

I love this! Aphrodite projecting the tears of a broken heart at everybody, even Ares, was a masterful touch, as was Athena trying to jump her as well, she is fighting them both! Ares throwing himself to save Aphrodite was so brilliant, as was the expression on her face as she hugged him. I also love the glare in her eyes as she wipes the tears away, she's honestly so angry. ^_^

I liked this so much better than the "official" animatic - I love how you gave Ares and Aphrodite so much nuance and a sense of strength through both their designs and their actions in the scene. I've never seen Aphrodite look so regal and commanding before, and as many other commenters have mentioned, having Ares be so loyal and protective is an amazing twist on his character. It may stray a bit from the intent of the original, but in my book, that deviation is entirely an improvement. (I just noticed Aphrodite's hand unclenching for a single frame at 0:25 and that is SUCH a good detail - it's almost a pity Ares barges in telling her to stop flirting with his girlfriend /j)

omgg, it's so hard to find an animation that doesn't undermine Ares's power. It's always Athena beating him with brute strength when she is known for her strategy. I especially love the play with emotions with Aphrodite since it makes sense as emotions plays directly with love not to mention how it affects Ares since love and war is linked. The way Aphrodite smiled when Athena charged at her shows how much she trust Ares and the way you display Ares's emotion really plays deeper on how pissed he is towards Odysseus on how he was willing to give up his comrades for his selfish want. TOTSS bias towards Ares hahahaha. Keep up the great workkk!!!!

Yeah, and how Athena doesn't even try to argue about the strategy of losing 6 men vs losing way more trying to kill Scylla. In Ares' mind, sacrificing comrades without a fighting chance is too cowardly to accept. Odysseus slaying over a hundred suitors to protect the source of his own passion better matches Ares' ideals.

@@whattwowhat It's kinda interesting to me that Athena subtly changes tracks with the three gods that present things she can't just refute. Hephaestus asks why he should support a man who sacrificed his friends to save himself, and while Athena does argue his hand was forced, the argument that actually moves her forward is "if you make the right decision, he can build a future with those who miss him"; changing the argument from the bonds Odysseus broke to the bond he broke them for. He sacrificed his friends, but only when his other choice was to sacrifice his chance to get home. The unspoken implication of "forgive him, and he will do better for the people he has left" is strong. Athena can't refute Aphrodite pointing out Odysseus screwed himself over by spiting the Cyclops and has been reaping what he sowed ever since, so first she makes an appeal to emotion, swallowing her pride to plead rather than reason with one of her rivals; when that doesn't work, she appeals to Odysseus's bond with Penelope being worthy of support, as she did with Hephaestus; "a broken heart can mend." There's no counter to the argument Ares makes that Odysseus was a coward in Scylla's lair, not just for knowingly sending six of his battle-brothers to their deaths but delegating that responsibility to someone else, refusing to shoulder the risks or the responsibilities that came with leading his men into Scylla's lair. Instead of hiding behind strategy with a god who stands for the soldiers that often get sacrificed in the name of tactics, Athena once again shows heart for a comrade in getting angry on Telemachus's behalf, just as she was willing to swallow her pride and plead for Odysseus with Aphrodite; the lovers see this is serious business if Athena is getting this emotionally involved, and the promise of a great battle for love afterwards to convince them both is almost an afterthought.

I can't even begin to express how much I love this Animatic, particularly for the respect it gives to each God. Athena is shown to win the battle, not through Brute force but with a tactical mind and targeting Ares's Greatest weakness, Aphrodite. And giving her that genuine moment of weakness when begging Aphrodite is so good. As for Aphrodite, invoking the emotions in both Ares and Athena during the entire fight, making them "feel the pain his mother felt" just gives her so much power in this animatic while still being the least violent of the ones depicted. The blind trust/love she has for Ares in that she doesn't even flinch as Athena nearly skewers her is just fantastic. And the use of her colors in basically every scene just sells her influence through the entire scene. Now Ares is the one I love the most in this animatic. There are so many things I appreciate about this portrayal. The torches, the tears, the loyalty, the genuine emotion when mentioning the men who died to Scylla, and the fact he only gets wounded when defending Aphrodite all comes together to the closest thing to perfection I've ever seen for this song. My favorite part through and through is the respect given to him, the fact he doesn't lose by being overpowered or out fought by Athena, but almost feels he willingly concedes more to her points than just her ability to beat him. So few animatics give Ares the courtesy of that level of characterization or esteem in this scene. Not to mention how personal that backhand felt, almost like he's getting back at her that time she helped wound him in Troy. I could go on and on, gushing over this depiction of Ares but I'll cut it short to say that I just adore this Animatic and will be continuing to watch more you make! With this animatic you earned a subscription from me!

This is so gorgeous from the word go. Lovely turnaround, lovely display of Aph. The constant tears are a BEAUTIFUL touch to Aph's point here. And considering the opposing-themes these two have in the mythos (virginity vs sexuality) I ADORE how Aph chests up into her space to hold her stance. It's one thing to be sassy, another to get IN YOUR FACE with the goddess of war tactics. Excellent power play. And then to have Ares physically shoving Athena around!? 10/10 - And like cheesycat said, the torches going out was a fantastic callback to what happened. AND having Athena's eyes glance around during her own quickthought moment???? I NEED more visualizations like this of her tactician brain sizing up the opponent and the best way to handle them. (Yaknow, what the whole song has her doing) I think my fav moment of all tho was his 'oh SHIT' realization of where she was going next, and Aph's unflinching stare when he got between them. She KNEW she was safe with her boytoy, even if Athena got him on the backfoot. 1000 Bonus points for a pouty cuddle. Fantastic work!

Ah the dynamic poses and actions! I love how each god/goddess imposes their own powers on one another to take the upper hand. Aphrodite's tears about his mother reflects much of her own story with her son, Eros. Then, when Athena took an illusion of a pleading mother to pull at Aphrodite's heartstrings! Only for her brother to come in full throttle with a kick to her. The fact that the way you depict how Ares takes the initiative to fight his sister full force is just AHHHH (Words can't describe). Athena going after Aphrodite too and Ares going to protect her! This just bolstered her argument and inevitably winning! I can't wait to see more work from you

Love her sweeping Ares legs and Ares having kind of his own domain with the torches. There’s soooo many dynamic and interesting choices in this! I understand other animators choices to make the scene more humorous, but between Aphrodite’s tears and Ares rushing to defend her-the fact that he bleeds ichor down the spear (so cool!) on the line corresponding “to get back to his homestead he’ll make everybody bleed,” like… this is all *brilliant* characterization. Athena is convincing them with direct pathos, she’s playing 4D chess in an argumentative fight! they just proved what they value so of course they have to agree to release him!! THE ARTIST COOKED A GOURMET COURSE Y’ALL 😂❤ ok I read the description and god that’s also just a really cool idea. somehow the physical representations both leans into the video game vibes while also bringing a whole new fresh twist to this!

I could watch this over and over. ❤️ I love your depictions of everyone, but especially Aphrodite. Sometimes her character is reduced to "prissy mean girl" but here she screams powerful GODDESS. The way her tears influence those around her, the pleased little smile when Ares hits Athena, and the way she didn't move or flinch when she was almost attacked, showing how in control and clever she is. The moment Athena grabs her arm and Aphrodite looks down at it with dangerously wide eyes and Athena immediately lets go, almost apologetically, is so quick but so telling. Her movements are fluid and seductive but also threatening, almost like a snake. Love love love it.

The amount of care put into this is insane. Like obviously there's the animation which must have taken a lot of skills and effort with how energetic they look, but I really really appreciate your attention to details and how you visualize the lyrics here (Aphrodite hugging Ares at "homestead", Ares bleeding at "he'll make everybody bleed", Ares bleeding GOLD oh my god it's such detail that people often forget, Athena being strategic by stripping to her bare and be vulnerable with Aphrodite while get on full armour with Ares, the way Athena retreats at "what kind of coward", etc etc bet there are other stuffs I haven't spot) And even other than that the way you portray each god is just *chefs kiss*, they have so much personality while staying all mighty and powerful. this is perhaps the best and most thoughtful animatic i have seen for this song yet!! aphrodite's portrayal of heartbreak spurning on ares' rage and indignance is a delicious representation of how their divine domains interact. the fact that ares is weeping during his first few lines really makes it seem like he's mourning those killed by scylla- and since ares is the god of bloodshed and loss in war, that rage and misery falls under *his* jurisdiction, not athena's. the animations themselves are GORGEOUS. fluid and dynamic, amazing all around. im gonna watch this many many more times and then send it to everyone i know.

This is my favourite animatic for this piece so far, it's just packed with so much action and personality to every participant, I just can't help watching it again and again. I really like that Aphrodite is angry and sad unlike in other animations where she is smiling, and that Athena realizing she is her biggest threat that the most tactical and wise thing to do is beg instead of fighting back. Also the crying is GOLDDD that Aphrodite is making them feel the way Odyssey's mother felt (also making the fact that Aphrodite is the god of LOVE any kinds of love not just romantically) this is a masterpiece ❤❤

I keep watching this over and over again. This is the best depiction of Ares I've seen in a long time. It's so clear what his motivations are, just through his movements. I'm also particularly impressed by the use of color to show when the gods are using their powers. After "didn't even try to kill them" there isn't any red on screen untill Athena aims for Aphrodite. It's like Ares believes he has made his point, his power isn't really necessary after that. Athena removing her helmet, trying to gain sympathy by acting how Aphrodite can relate to. And it's clear that's what she's doing, being manipulative, because the water around her is gold! On top of that, the purple tears only are a disadvantage to Athena, because she has to stay level headed, while ares is completely fine because instincts are what he thrives on! Gosh this is so well done and thought out! And the art is really pretty, I let out a little gasp at seeing Athena without her helmet, and I keep staring at ares taking aphrodites earring. Beautiful work ❤

Holy Moly that fighting animation was EPIC as hell!!!! Everything from the movements to choreography to the camera angles were perfect in every way! I also like how this animatic ends with Ares looking good. Usually animatics have Ares get utterly schooled by Athena and quiver behind Aphrodite. But here, he fully capable of going toe to toe with her and only lost because he caught a blade aimed toward his lover.

One of the (many) things that I think stand out for me with this... In a lot of other animatics for God Games seem to have Aphrodite play up the Sexy Lady angle and give her an expression or body language denoting teasing or flirting, which makes her seem like she's being catty or a bully. This one makes it clear that no, Aphrodite is genuinely sorrowful for Odysseus's mother. Add in the comments here (The dynamic between Aphrodite and Ares, the golden ichor, etc) is why I keep coming back to this one for this sequence

ive been watching this since day one and bro i just realized that at the first scene where athena is holding a string and this wood thingy was most likely given by apollo (for the string) and hephaestus (for the wood) and then the owl taking aphrodite's earing mixed with ares's blood is such a good detail and im wondering if its going to be used against zeus or some stuff AND THEN TEH PART WHEN ATHENA GRINNED WHILE STARING AT APHRODITE AND ARES TAKING THE HINT ON WHAT SHES GOING TO DO SHOWS, its like athena knowing ares's weakness and he knows taht she knows (athena: haha i know your weakness), EVEN APHRODITE SMILED WHEN SHE REALIZES THIS. putting both aphrodite and ares together as a means to make them admit that theyre in love (and weak) for eachotehr rather than making them JUST scared is TOP TIER (athena and ares are so siblings when he says "really athena? this old tricks?" of trying to be weak infront of aphrodite) AND THE DETAILS BRO FROM THE REST OF THE COMMENTS, IM CRYINGG

This is one of the best animations I've seen with this song. Love the tears all throughout. Love Athena is able to overcome that. Love the fight sequence and Aphrodite hugging Ares before they agree to free Odysseus. Very well done!

There is so much creativity within this animatic! Though it's only a snippet of God Games, it has done so much more than most animatic I've seen. The "blessing" to let Odysseus leave being objects particular to each god and how Aphrodite ALMOST breaks hers as a sign of rejection, Ares bleeding ichor, Aphrodite's power emphasizing her domain over love and subsequently feelings (just like how Athena has her own power in the musical), Ares line and Scylla's victims parallel with the six torches, Athena utilizing her power in combat, the way both God of War differentiate in their fighting style, AND THE BACKGROUND. God these were so good!!!

This kills me and continues to live rent free in my head with that use of the crying. It is SUCH a fantastic visual element and so appropriate considering the role of water throughout the story. Aphrodite's method of carrying herself with head up high yet streaming tears is fantastic at communicating the emotional bitterness. the begging moment capturing the softness her voice takes on with that costume change and the wet hair. again the drowning in water and in hurt that is a theme here. That entrance of Ares is fantastic with all the snap cuts. The visual that Ares' stance when he grabs the spear is fantastic silhouette work. just really cool stuff and it has lived in my head for weeks

gosh this is incredible!!! i am screaming crying banging on the walls!!!! love how many details you've put into this animatic, i basically watched it frame by frame!!! i love the moment at exactly 1:00 minute where Athena gets the idea to go after Aphrodite and her expression shifts, her eyes still focused on Aphrodite and then a FRAME later Ares realizes what Athene is about to do and he first looks surprised and THEN A FRAME LATER Athena looks at Ares and he's just pissed off!!!!! This is literally the best God Games animatic out there. Wow, I'm speechless!! It's exactly the way I imagined goinf with the song, full of action and actual combats. Aphrodite's tears affecting the gods was such an interesting touch, and the way Ares fought roughly with Athena was just perfect and something I've not quite seen in other animatics. Also, the animation was so smooth and expressions were absolutely on point. I also loved the way Athena's design changes a bit from frame to frame, when she's begging aphrodite to reconsider and back with her helmet on and such, it added a lot of motion to the animatic! And the absolute cherry on top was Ares protecting aphrodite like - The way you managed to read the song's intent musically and portray it was spectacular, a true talent. I hope the EPIC cast sees this🫶!!

OH MY STARS There’s so much to unpack about this I don’t even know where to start. I love this Aphrodite. I’m sure that many have already pointed out the reverse sympathetic crying is comparable to Blue Diamond from Steven Universe. It’s absolutely perfect. Gives even more meaning to “Let him feel the pain that his mother felt and rot.” I love the emphasis of Ody’s actions spitting on both Ares’ and Aphrodite’s divine domains. I've watched this animatic so many times I am truly OBSESSED with everything done here. the limited color choices, aphrodite's tears, in particular I adoreee how painfully physical the gods are and how you can *feel* the physicality of ares putting his weight on athena's shield, aphrodite putting her arms around ares' waist, just the whole thing. it's so good. mwah mwah mwah mwah. This was such a cool segment for both ares and aphrodite. I also lived how you made all of them display their skills from ares combat attacks, aphrodite's tears effecting both him and athena and even having athena using her owl to cause a diversion. And the little interactions between Ares and aphrodite really show that they genuinely care for one another ❤

Aphrodite represents emotion so the contagious tears actually adds to the challenge presented to Athena. This is part of her power. She’s often seen as the goddess of Love and Beauty but isn’t really given power on par with the other gods in the media we have so far. This steps her up.
