Life has no inherent reason... Life is a question mark... What do I do next ? Where will I go ? Why will I do it ? What will I eat ? When will I die ? Is there a point to it ? All questions - You play the game - and at the end all the pieces go back in the box...

True. Un-like the popular stereotype of religious people being close minded-ones there are in fact plenty of (in not more) Christians who are opened minded people as much there are plenty of atheist people who are close minded and preachy . I think preaching and trying to make somebody to change his mind (in both cases atheists and religious people) is wrong. Im a Christian and I get along fine with my atheist friends and we respect each other very much. Why cant the world be like this?

This all dawned on me 60+ years ago as a young seminarian; the full impact did not happen overnight but the initial gut feeling started then, while training to be an R.C. priest. Actually, even as a small boy, I never really believed in it. Around the age of 6/7/8, you gradually realise that there is no Father Xmas and no Tooth-Fairy either but your Catholicism sticks with you even though you do not see, in your child's mind, why your religion is valid still. After all, there is your headmistress, a nun at school and then at grammar school, there is the headmaster, with grey hair and a kindly smile - an Irish Christian Brother. There is the parish priest who you serve Mass for, Sunday after Sunday - all believers, or so it would seem. So hang on in there, Keith and do as they say and pray for the GIFT of FAITH, like they say you should.... and everything will turn out right. EXCEPT that………. ermmmmmm………… NOPE..! ……………………….....everything did not turn out right, at least vis-à-vis any vindication of faith. I left the seminary at 18 and slowly, very slowly it all fell into place. The weekend I left was the first step; I did not go to Mass - a huge step for a hitherto observant Catholic schoolboy. From that day on, I grew ever bolder and eventually dismissed all the b.s. that we had had thrust down our throats by our teachers, the nuns and the Irish Christian Brothers who were many things, dear old fellows, BUT Christian. I thought it was just me that thought like that; just me that had apostasised. But NO...! Roll on a few decades, the 60's 70's 80's 90'sand the noughties.... and what have we now...? THE INTERNET....! We have the Internet and contact with other, like-mindeds such as this sooooo articulate Mr. Condell...! Isolation over. Great.................................! And THANK-YOU Pat.................! Keith MANCHESTER

The purpose of humanity was to love and worship God. True love and worship requires us to choose God which requires free will. Free will by definition requires there to be a possibility to make the wrong decision. Sin is not choosing God. If God had created us so that we could not sin then it would not truly be free will and hence defeat the entire purpose of creation.

Religion doesn't take away the worth from life. God sacrificing His Son really makes human life infinitely valuable. Most people will tell you that democracy is the best form of government and that if you look at history it's obvious. However we still have to send kids to school to learn about why our freedoms are so priceless.

Part 2 The reason God saved us the way He did was so he could forgive us without being unjust. It is not just to just forgive a criminal and let him go. This is why God, in order not to violate His nature, decided to take the punishment for us so He could be merciful and just at the same time. You see, when Jesus died on the cross, God died on the cross. I know it sounds weird but God can be at more than one place at a time.

I would also insist on pleasant music, colorful quirky costumes, lots of bling (shiny stuff), beautiful paintings and statues, and several fun holidays with lots of good food, wine, and, in your case, beer. Grand architectural edifices would be nice as well. Then again, if we just got rid of 99% of Christian dogma, we'd have all that now.
