This is the real deal. Lennon baring his soul. OMG, fearless authenticity, no ego, no agenda. Just speaking his own personal truth, no holds barred. Not the first time, but perhaps the rawest and most vulnerable piece of work he did.

So glad to hear someone who really gets the message here . . . some are so offended by the surface statements, they neglect to grasp the full meaning of the song. As a New Yorker, I can't listen to that without being transported back to that terrible day - it's one of those events that you'll never forget where you were when you heard about it.

THANK YOU, Nora, YOU are the ONLY reactor to John Lennon's "GOD" that ACTUALLY FULLY UNDERSTOOD what John was saying!! THAT is EXACTLY how I always interpreted it. I have been a Beatles fan since January 1963 when I was 16 years old, still an avid fan now at the age of 74. The night John was murdered absolutely destroyed me, to this day I don't understand how the murderer can be called a "fan"! It's an insult to we fans who LOVED JOHN and would NEVER hurt a hair on his head. He was nuts, and I am glad he is locked away and has been denied parole every time a hearing comes up. THANK YOU for not trashing John's song and for "GETTING IT"

I'm glad you found the depth of John Lennon's work. His killer was an obsessed fan and stated that he killed John because he was a phony. In reality, he killed him because he wanted to obtain John's immortality. But behind it all, John was assassinated because he was one of the very few people in the world that spoke truth, no matter what. You should check out the song Gimme Some Truth, #9 Dream, Mind Games, Instant Karma, Love, Mother, Cold Turkey and of course Imagine.

The guy who shot John was an obsessed fan, he had met and gotten Johns autograph that day, he killed John because he was a nut, he is in prison still, I read the other day he is eligible for parole. Mark David Chapman said he killed John because he didn't like John's lifestyle and the comments he made, well something like that

Brian's performance seems to be from the Brian May Band lineup of '93 with Cozy Powell on drums. I love his drumming... A very sad time for Brian May back then, of course. But that band had a lot of drive in live performances. I loved the album(s). (There were two studio albums plus a live-album.)

Music was also a way of Brian processing his grief for both Freddie and his father among other things that were going on at the time that brought him to a dark place. One of Brian's solo work included a song called "I'm scared". He really laid his soul bare to a hard rocker melody and expressed all of his fears and insecurities. Here's the lyric video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppTYonuraq5rprM

the picture at the end was of Lennon signing his new album for the guy who will kill him in a few hours. The loser was obsessed with the book CATCHER ON THE RYE and thought Lennon was another phony. He flew from Hawaii with a gun in his pocket. Lennon was the first assassinationthat led to popular gun control protests. And your interpretation is spot in. I used this as my senior quote all those years ago.

Most people's minds run 24/7 with life problems, simple mundane things, and ect. They think it's "normal" because people are used to it. But sometimes people have profound experiences that changes their whole perspective. Some people call it "God" but what if that word was just a pointer word to something else like simply love in its purest form? Very overwhelming, beatific and dumbfounding and that initial experience led to other experiences like you wake up one morning where the mind is simply silent. No thought. Just silence with no concept of anything. No God as most people think "He" is. No religion, no world figures or events which are all negative by news standards, just pure blessed silence. I think this was what John was trying to convey in this song. Something like that would absolutely change your beliefs and opinions and outlook on life in general because you'd find out that everything that you ever thought you knew or learned was wrong. That's why I prefer God (the dream is over) to Imagine. Yeah I'm a "social media" heretic but I don't care. I just am.

John Lennon was shot it's thought, because of his outspoken views on organised religions, particularly Christianity. The shooter Mark Chapman had serious mental health problems, but the religion element seems to have been a factor as he was a practising Christian and religious. The first comment John made at the time of the Beatles peak in the US a caused a public outcry when he said "We're bigger than Jesus!" And then this solo song 'God' (released 1970) certainly reaffirmed his dismissive views on religion and Jesus, which again caused a lot of protests and anger in US. John Lennon also expressed a lot of political views while he was living in the US and was well known for his anti-US government and anti-war views, which many Americans didn't agree with. Many thought he was too outspoken and had a chip on his shoulder. This can be seen on American chat show appearances in the 1970s post-Beatles era, where Lennon is often laughed at by audiences. Chapman shot him in 1980 a decade after this single was released. Chapman hasn't talked much about the reasons and motivation behind the murder but he did do one interview expressing regret and saying he felt not in control of himself when he shot Lennon. There was a bible in his hotel room with some passages underlined near a 'shrine' to John Lennon, so the religion element seems to have been a driving factor. It was a pre-meditated planned killing, as he took a gun with him to New York, so this must have been something on his mind for months or even years. Whether Chapman's motivation was hatred/serving justice or perhaps trying to turn Lennon into some kind of martyr is unclear given his mental state at the time. Chapman was arrested at the crime scene by staff outside Lennon's residence and police who arrived quickly. He's currently still in prison.

John Lennon absolutely believed in and supported civil rights and equality for everyone regardless of anything. I wish that image could be removed because it doesn’t promote the truth.

Both are so sad. I listened to this just before bed. Big mistake as I couldn’t sleep for a long time. Think this must have been during Brian’s depressed period. He has said that the main reason he didn’t commit suicide was his children. Something I relate to. He must believe in Queen now as he has done so much to keep their legacy alive. Glad he came “back to the light”.

Thank you Nora..its such sad songs in their own ways... what was mostly sad in Brian's words were the lyrics near the end...I don't believe in being in Queen anymore..that's really deep. But we all know Brian suffers Depression in parts. And I believe fate dealt a good hand to Brian..as he could not tour due to the lockdown.. and he had a heart attack..pain in his chest and arms..all found out because he tore his gluteus maximus. .the pain ended up being a compression in hi spine with pain now in his leg. He had an angiogram and they found 3 arteries damaged..which if he had been touring he may never have found out...resulting in possible major heart attack or even death!!!.. Brian had 3 stents put in all 3 arteries and is now at home recovering. So had he not been locked in at home and damaged his gluteus maximus. ..and found out the rest..his life may not have been his life living now... So thank god he was not touring..and this would not have been discovered.

Mark David Chapman is the man who gunned down John Lennon there isnt a clear reason why he did it though in his latest appeal which was denied he claimed it was for self glory he looked at the way he was living then an compared it to the way John was living, John was a musician, lived in a nice apartment, had the love of his life, but Chapman took it all way with the pull of a trigger. Rest In Peace John Lennon

John was so misinterpreted when this song was released. Even today, so many people don't get what he was trying to say. I always hear people say "What? He hated all the other Beatles, He hated Kennedy? He doesn't believe in God or the Bible?" Of course he did. I actually heard him say that he was a "Most religious person". What he was trying to say was that he felt that organized religion did more harm than good. And that there were too many "false prophets". People must understand John. With Lennon you always have to read between the lines. He was very, very deep with his lyrics. And extremely honest. Just look at all the flack he took over his song "Imagine". Everyone I know always says "What the hell did he mean when he said Imagine there's no heaven, and imagine no religion?" Once again. Organized religion can and has been dangerous. just look at 9-11. You don't think those sickos who took out the towers had religion on their minds? And how long have they been killing each other in Northern Ireland? I'm 100% Irish. Believe me, I know all about that over there. The Catholics & Protestants have been killing each other, and so many innocent women and children with their car bombs for so, so long. The Palestinians and the Jews? Just look at Libya, Syria, Yemen and Iraq. That's all they do over there is kill over religion. The list goes on and on and on. In the history of this planet, more people have been murdered in the name of Christ than for any other reason. That's "organized religion". John didn't say don't believe in religion or God, he was saying just believe in it to yourselves. Quietly. Peacefully. Because when you begin telling people that your God is the "only" God, people die...RIP John. I got it. By the way Faith, you nailed it. He wasn't saying those people and things weren't important, but I'm here, I'm now, I've got to believe in and take care of me and my woman and my children...

I don't think you got the message of what John was saying Jodi. He wasn't saying that he didn't "actually" believe in these people and things. He was saying that these were all the things that he took so seriously in his life, and now he realizes that all these things aren't really as important as his life, and his life with Yoko. He talked about this song in an interview once. That's what he said. Not that he didn't live or care about all of this, just that he needed to pay more attention to his life, and his life with Yoko and Sean...He said about the Bible that of course he believed in God. He said he was a "Most religious person"
