Ah, God knows... I am pretty sure, there are many people out there, who haven't watched Suzumiya Haruhi yet, but still recognize this song. Even being more than a decade old, God Knows... is still one of the most famous songs among Anime fans, because the melody is just so unforgettable and catchy. Some may have been waiting for me to do a piano arrangement of this song for years and I couldn't agree more: This song is simply a must-play for any anime pianists - and today is finally the day, where I am uploading it on my KZbin channel!
I still remember as it was yesterday when I was watching the 12th episode of Suzumiya Haruhi for the very first time in 2007. When that concert scene came, I have felt an excitement I've never experienced before. The detailed animation of the guitar playing, Haruhi's passion while singing, the dazzling stage lightning, the excited concert crowd, Kyon's reaction, everything. The entire scene was so perfectly pieced together and I think I have rewatched the concert scene more than a hundred times already. It was simply one of the most brilliant moments in the history of Anime.
Actually, Suzumiya Haruhi might be the Anime which has kickstarted my interest in Anime in the first place. Back then in 2007, my understanding of Anime was limited to One piece, Dragon ball Z, Digimon etc. But upon discovering Suzumiya Haruhi, my worldview has completely changed. It was so different, so mind-blowingly genius and so much more intriguing, than anything I've ever seen before. Suzumiya Haruhi has made a huge impact on me as a life of an Anime fan and until today, it is still one of my top 5 anime series of all time.
Well, before this text is getting too long, I want to say a few words about the piano arrangement itself. It is basically a summary of all the improvised (concert-)live versions I have played in the past, and I tried to make the finalized version as exciting as possible by utilizing different voicings, rhythmical variations and sneaking in some secondary melodies. Basically I wanted to recreate the excitement I've felt when I was watching the 12th episode back then. Every here and there, I also put some surprise moments in the arrangements, let's see if you can spot them all! (*•̀ᴗ•́*)و ̑̑
Alright, after this video I think I will take a pause from KZbin to discover more interesting anime songs for my future uploads.
See you next time then!

I am still sad about the Kyoani arson incident in July 2019. Because I literally grew up with Kyoani Anime, Suzumiya Haruhi, Air (TV), Lucky Star, Clannad.... Kyoani's Anime will live on forever in my heart and I hope they will be back in the future. Thank you everyone for watching.

You don’t need to grow up with KyoAni to love them though. To be truthful I am relatively new to anime (July 2019) and the moment I finished K-on I knew that KyoAni is gonna be my favorite studio forever.

I feel like Animenz’s list every time he makes an arrangement would look something like this: 口10ths 口Dramatic multi-octave arpeggios 口Three-hand techniques 口Left hand marasy8 jumps 口Melody/rhythm recreation AND manipulation 口Trills 口Making it virtuosic enough so that 99% of his viewers can’t play it

0:01 Ooh, a slow, introductory passage. Nice! 0:26 There it is! Those fast, 16th note guitar riffs. I like the upward arpeggio you added so that the sudden sound doesn't sound to abrupt when coming out from the brief silence. 0:51 Showing off you long hand width again, I see. 1:25 I thought your RH would move to a higher octave. You tricked me there. 1:31 Nice addition of a trill(?) into the RH melody. 1:41 I like how you placed that guitar riff at a lower octave than before in the opening, before then transitioning to the higher octave. If you had just played everything in the same octave, I think it would sound too repetitive to listeners. 2:05 Those "melody filler" notes in the higher octaves remind me a lot of your duet with TheIshter. I like the variety you make between the first and second verses. It seems creativity is what makes full-sized covers so difficult. 2:17 I like how you removed a few notes from the original melody. It almost sounds kinda "dreamy." 2:40 Oof, that LH bass pattern is so good! It reminds me of your Zenzenzense arrangement. 2:52 Again with that trickery. 3:33 I expected you to do the same LH bass pattern from the second chorus, but that key change was legendary! 3:41 I like that seemingly insignificant LH accent when you pressed that Eb, F, and Gb. It adds extra melody when the LH is comprised mostly of drum-beat patterns. Again at (3:53). 4:27 Grand finish. Bravo. The sound of an acoustic's reverb is always magnificent to hear.

0:00 - The left hand plays Db Db B and then you see it again at 0:25 1:26 - The Db Db Db C B in the left hand is so cool here! 1:51 - 1:54 - How do you come up with this stuff?? 2:02 - 2:05 - I feel like you did something like this in one of your other songs ... or I've been listening to this so many times trying to find any of the surprises that I'm going crazy 2:30 - 2:35 The right hand sounds so soft, like starts twinkling 2:42 - The left hand sounds so powerful, like it's been waiting for this moment, especially at 2:45 3:09 - 3:19 It's so cool that the right and left hands take turns playing the high parts! 3:48 I think it's really interesting that you decided to hold this Bb on the right hand 3:56 The embodiment of when you're so into the music your entire body moves along 4:15 I really like the emphasized right hand Gb Bb Bb Bb Db Db b b Bb Ab Gb part; it's like the part where haruhi's really screaming here 4:20 the technique you use here in your right hand reminds me of your kimi no nawa video at 1:48 All the ornaments (turns, mordents, trills, etc?) that were added to the song in combination with your other God knows versions and the other techniques you added to this arrangement that I'm not theoretically knowledgeable about made it sound really rich. Rich in your Animenz arrangement style and in emotion. It was so easy to get into the song watching you play it with such fervor. When I used to take piano lessons, some pieces just made me move with the music, like swaying left and right with the soft melody, or back and forth due to the strength of the left hand sometimes. It was always really fun caught up in it and I definitely see it here. Thank you for another Animenz video! P.S. Will you tell us the surprise parts eventually?

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzimiya was one of the very first anime that I watched back in middle school. It was the anime that kickstarted my love for anime. The enthralling plot, the lively characters, and the utter insanity of the whole thing sucked me in. This arrangement beautifully captures the excitement and thrill of the concert scene, with Haruhi’s intense passion and the awe of Kyon as he watched. Thank you so much for this.

You forgot to mention that to understand, appreciate and enjoy the anime the first TWO episodes are mandatory to see if one likes it or not. Without the context the second episode provides the first one is significantly less enjoyable. But yeah, folks should watch it as it is absolutely amazing! (I provided this context as an old classmate of mine watched the first episode, didn't think it was to his liking and only a year later he found and watched the second episode and it became one of his favourite animes of all time.)

Ahhh Haruhi Suzumiya, one of the classics and best imo. Nice playing man. Love the part on the right hand at 2:28, the jumpy part at 3:27, and the "wavy fadeout effect" at 4:27 :D
