Beautiful chant! I love the chorus and the verse, I surrender to Thee. But "Make me worthy of Thy love" makes me stop singing. We are all worthy of God's love as we are One. All we have to do is improve our knowing. We are gold and Master is removing our clay. We are also fully accepted by God and He responds to our EVERY spiritual effort. As His children, we are unconditionally loved and accepted and we don't have to beg for acceptance. When I sing this chant I just tweek a few words and sing, "I am worthy of Thy love" and "You accept me the way I am". That is what is so beautiful about God's love, he takes us as we are and we are changed by his unconditional love and acceptance. We just can't help it, the clay starts to fall off and the golden Self is revealed.

Yes, I understand that thought...and when I first heard the chant (which was composed by YSS devotees for the album, "Guru Sharanam"), I felt the same way. It is true that we are all souls made in the Divine Image and do not need to become worthy. But I have come to appreciate the divine yearning in the original lyric, which springs from a heart painfully conscious of the self-created transgressions, darkness, and confusion which we allow to stand between us and Divine Love. In this light, "make me worthy of Thy Love," is an appeal to God to cleanse the soul of this self-made darkness, so that the Love of which we have been "worthy" since the soul's creation may fully manifest and lift us into bliss.
