I see now why this game has received the acclaim it has. This was a hell of a sight deeper a story than the original trilogy. Voice acting was on point too--and I'm a damn stickler for quality voicing. Love the creative license with mythology and the connection to the old games too. Great cameos, good foreshadowing and THANK THE GODS they didn't spend the entire game dumping and re-dumping exposition on us in a patronizing or condescending manner. I particularly loved Kratos's new acquisition before going to Helheim. That segment was superbly done. It was chilling and vindicating at the same time--not an easy thing to accomplish. Add to all that the fact that it's a slap in the face to the fools at EA who think "people don't like single player games anymore" and yeah--I see why it's topping charts.

Savage Shot is right. Kratos has always been an unstoppable force of nature. His weakness is that he’s incapable of being weak. As much a he loves his son, he can’t show it because he doesn’t know how to be vulnerable. So he conveys it with stern lessons and wisdom from his mistakes. Absolutely fantastic writing.
@KruggKruscherp6 жыл бұрын
@@natedagreat19 I wonder what he was like with his daughter, I don't think they went into that much other than stating he obviously loved his previous wife and daughter more than anything. Something about making a flute for his daughter to play but I don't know if the comics went into their relationship. After all that shitstorm of GOW1-3, he's damaged and it likely wasn't how he and atreus start off.
@natedagreat196 жыл бұрын
Krugg Kruscherp the prequel games goes into his character pre-GoW1 and Kratos has always been Kratos. He was a viscous and remorseless spartan warrior, willing to trade his soul for power to defeat his enemies. I honestly think he was an absentee father at that time. Always off in battle and restless and unsatisfied when he’s home. That’s just my opinion though.

Kaz Lost is right. Cory Barlog mentioned in the director’s cut that Faye disabled the protection in order to get Kratos and Artreus on the move because she knew that Kratos would stall. He did this by telling Artreus that he wasn’t ready. And after the first battle with Baldur, you hear Kratos say “Our son isn’t ready to carry your ashes to the top of the mountain. And neither am I.” Kratos isn’t ready to step out into this world because he’s still in hiding and is still trying to conceal his nature as a god trying to live a mortal life in a foreign land. But because their home is no longer safe, “you are not ready. But we have no choice now.” And when they reached the top of the hill where they could see their house and the hole in the protective stave, Artreus asked “why would she do that?” Kratos didn’t answer because he knew that she did that to get them on the go and put the prophecies in motion.

It would have been so rich in content if done with patience and it would have included alot more of the story and mytohogy and more side quests and space in the realms etc. though im not sure can they fit so much content in the blu ray that they would be actually able to do such a game, but it would have been breathtaking what they could have been done with the game.

Man I’d LOVE to see a prequel game for this showing younger Kratos carving out a life in Midgard and meeting Faye. The story practically writes itself if you consider it for a moment. I can see Kratos and Faye crossing paths and clashing, then later on they unite to fight a common foe and get to know one another as they continue to fight side by side. It wraps up nicely, and if you recall, Kratos DID say that Faye “fought beautifully” so you can imagine that he had to have seen her fighting at some point. So you’d have Kratos using his blades and Faye using the axe. It doesn’t even have to be a full game, they could set it up as a set of periodic flashback levels.

Damn, I'm starting to like Kratos. That alone astonishes me. What a game. What a Story. A tale of a father and his son. Amidst Myths and Legends. Set in the Edda's world, But it's so human. I've never dreamt of thinking this about a GoW title. I have found new respect for my father; my mother and also myself. This is cinema, literature and more - all in one. This story is valuable and full of deep insight about the human condition. Whatever it means to me, it means that exact thing only to me. Of course it would be great, if the experience was so powerful for everyone. But is it? I can only talk for myself on that matter. That can mean only one thing: God of War - this game - is art. Games are art. This convinced me fully. Have a great day.

nah, the source material is quite well understood in large parts. It just that both GoW and the Marvel universe took a lot of creative liberty and changed things around (Which is fine). So the characters you see here, while sharing the names and some of their traits with their mythological counterparts, don't have a lot to do with with how they were portayed in either the Snorrli or the older Edda.

I find Kratos's rock throw in Spartan Rage Mode to be assuredly entertaining in this game. I mean, the scream he gives on top of yanking a massive rock out of the floor without altering the mass, composition, or structure of the terrain beneath him, and then hocking it at some poor sod is just hilariously satisfying to watch and execute in play.

"When doom befalls the indestructible, only then shall the guardian return" The indestructible refers to the gods that Kratos has killed in Midgard/Baldur. The last guardian is Fae, and the guardians return is her ashes being scattered atop Jotunheim!
@LordKnightcon4 жыл бұрын
Close. The "indestructible" specifically refers to Baldur. The "guardian" is Faye. Literally the moment Baldur fell, Faye's remains were returned to Jotunheim.
