Sindri got absolutely bullied in this game. Atreus didn’t value his friendship enough, even knocking him out of the way in bear form. He repeatedly got put in situations he didn’t want to be in. He built a house for everyone and no one truly appreciated it. Then his brother gets stabbed by the god they all hate. No wonder he’s a shell of his former self.

You can say it’s Atreus fault. But you can’t predict outcome. Do Atreus want this to happen ? No, but it was irrelevant. Besides, Atreus did helped Brok and Sindri unite together from God of War 2018. Without him, their bond would never be the same. Without Brok help to forge Kratos a new weapon to defeat Hendmell, he would have kill Atreus. And without Brok exposing Odin disguised as Tyr, the whole group would be imprisoned or dead. Doing right thing isn’t easy answer. It’s very complicated. Like i said, we can’t predict the outcome no matter how hard to try to avoid it.

The saddest part is that, because Brok is missing a part of his soul, his soul can’t reach the light of Alfheim and he is forever stuck wandering without an afterlife. I think one of the reasons Sindri took Brok’s death so hard was because he knows, because of what Sindri did, Brok is forever lost and denied peace in his afterlife. I really, REALLY hope we have a quest in the next game where we find the missing piece of his soul and help him find peace. Atreus should be the one to do it since he’s getting quite good with souls and Giant magic. It will be a beautiful redemption for him and Atreus can say his goodbye to Brok since he wasn’t at the funeral 😢

I was amazed at this payoff happening at all. The setup of brok stumping Mimir with the riddle is delivered during just “normal” in-game dialog while you’re going to get the spear made. That’s like… probably 6-8 or so hours at least before you could make it to this funeral if you were just playing through the story as quickly as possible. What attention to detail, and respect for the intelligence of the player to bookend that in that way.

Also this might be a reach but Brok was also (w)hole. Like the words Kratos told Brok after meeting the lady of the forge. “The form doesn’t matter, only it’s nature”. Despite that Brok only had 3 quarters of his soul, it didn’t matter. Brok was still whole just as much anyone else. I believe that’s what Kratos was going to say before Sindri cut him off. Brok was… whole

The moment at 8:00 speaks volumes. He wants someone to blame, but he can't. He wants to blame Atreus for the cause of all these events but he knew fate has everything planned, they mention it time and time again, those who seek to avoid it, will eventually fulfill what was written. Brokks fate came to pass at the accident at the forge, but Sindri tried to defy fate and revive him. He wishes to hate on Kratos and everyone but they brought him the justice he deserved with Odin. This was a trap for Sindri, he would either lose Brokk to fate, or if Ragnarok had not come to pass, would lose him either way. The one major detail being someone who was a clean freak, who wore gloves for everything he touched, no longer wears his gloves, and neither does he care what anyone thinks anymore. Brokk wants him to be free, but Sindri has never known a world without him.
@johnnyboy3410
@johnnyboy3410 Жыл бұрын
he doesn’t want to blame, he already does blame them, he just doesn’t care anymore and just wants to be alone, the whole game is about how fate shouldn’t defy your choices, Kratos killed Heimdall to keep Atreus safe and not because of the prophecy, prophecy also said that it was Tyr that would them against Odin, we know how that went, also in giant panels in Jotunheim it was prophesied that Kratos would die and Atreus goes to Odin, though technically that happened since Thor killed and revived him, hell even at the end you get the Fate Breaker armor, fate didn’t kill Brok, Odin did, also Sindri wore the gloves and was germphobic because of the souls that was dragging him in the lake of souls when he saved Brok, he stopped wearing the gloves because he doesn’t care anymore, all that it mattered in his life was Brok, his only family and now he is gone sadge

You are absolutely correct. Many won't see it this way, but Sindri is his own self to blame for this. Had he not defy fate the first time, this wouldn't had happened. We live to serve the realm and not ourselves. Odin, his very existence was to serve himself and himself alone. We do not seek any validation for who we are and what we live for, expect compensation of any kind for what we give, or take vain pride in the fruits of our positive actions. Sigma males are indeed humble creatures and we use wisdom to guide our every path, though sometimes our humanity (imperfections) fall into play. Yet we learn from those and improve upon our actions to create a positive impact. Odin, for the life of him did things for all the realms to see him for who he is, the All-father of all, the King of Asgard and in fact, all the realm, to obtain credit in the process, and therefore exalted himself obove all. If any should qualify for the position of a sigma in this game, it should be Kratos. After this, Sindri absolutely drops his picture-perfect etiquette and becomes just like Brok; he doesn't have gloves, runs in to kill melee, and isn't considerate of anyone else. He claims he had this etiquette because a witch set him straight, but it's also because he wanted to show he had something to live for; he not only used his brains, but also his heart. Now he no longer cares, because the thing that fuelled his etiquette and love for his profession, his heart, is now broken, and no Dwarven magic will be able to repair it. His apathy will now be his form, and there'll be no telling if it will be his nature. Legendary storytelling.

I like the details in Sindris designs and movements that show his grief. Unlike before where he cared about staying clean, he’s instead covered in blood and is not wearing gloves. He also no longer cares about hiding his teleportation and does it in front of everyone

Adam John Harrington absolutely crushed in terms of acting and performance. Everyone did a stellar job with their performances in Ragnarok but Harrington’s descent into despair with Sindri’s grief was powerful. Mo-cap and the delivery of Sindri’s transformation is arguably one of the best performances I’ve seen in a narrative based game.

That intense silent glare Sindri gave Kratos after he pulled away from him, when the latter tried to comfort him after the funeral, shows that Sindri's path to finding peace may possibly be unattainable. This could set him down a dangerous and destructive path. Makes me think of Baulder for some reason. Different circumstances, but same path of pain.

I actually saw more of a similarity to Freya's situation. Both of them made (understandable but selfish) snap decisions that ultimately changed their loved ones' lives for the worse. Both of them blamed other people for an unfortunate turn of events that ended in the deaths of their loved ones-- events that no one had any control over. Only time will tell if Sindri will be able to move on from Brok's death in the same way that Freya moved on from Baldur's.

I wish the game let Kratos talk to Sindri about his own brother, about how he misses him and he understands the loss. And if he needs he'll always have a home with them. It's sad that despite multiple deaths happening at the end, everyone gets to walk away with a resolution. Freya lost her brother but he chose to do that and she acknowledges it. Thor died but his wife and daughter got rid of their biggest abuser Even the light/dark elf couple didn't lose each other. But Sindri? He loses everything, and we can't even help him. He's the only one who gets a sad ending.

As sad as this is, Sindri also had a role to play in this. He could’ve still reunited with Brok in the after life had he not done what he did when Brok died the first time. Also… during Ragnarok, when he told Atreus to shoot at that wall thingy to destroy it after combining with Thrud, I could genuinely feel that the man was really angry at Atreus the way he looked at him before walking out of frame. That look Is one I’ll never forget, also considering that he’s phobia for germs went away after Broks death.

Not really Brok's missing a piece of his soul (Direction) Best way to break it down is the segment in GoW 3 when kratos had his neck snapped. Form which is the being Mind which is sentience or awareness (when his soul looks around a bit before straight ahead, bein aware it's _somewhere_) Direction i.e. the player following the path the game set (in Brok's case if I had to assume, a vague-ish path to the afterlife) And Luck, which is kratos coming back to life via hope (stick with me) Now apply this with brok, when mimir said he's denied it. It means brok can't even if he wanted to reach for the afterlife without his soul being whole. In the sense I put it in, brok has no clue how to even make his way to the afterlife, let alone the light of alfheim. So brok at best is lost in limbo with no way of ever meeting sindri when his time comes. As for atreus, sindri is lashing out and overwhelmed with grief and a sleuth of emotions. He's acted with his heart, apathy and all and he blames atreus for going on to stop ragnarök and brought trouble his way along with kratos who did nothing but follow atreus' lead to the end instead of pulling the reigns in. He blames them both and holds no responsibility for his own actions. For starters, giving them the ability to travel between the realms again. Keeping the fact that brok wasn't whole, and was the other half responsible for the giants near extinction (and being contempt of the giants and framing it like the dwarves are fixin the problem, when he's using a giants flaw to even get into Gladshein, the city behind the walls) Sindri is understandably angry since atreus just didn't know when to stop and Kratos doing little. But Sindri truly shoulders a heavy amount of blame both for keeping the truth from brok (and ignoring his final words) and being the catalyst that denied brok his way to the afterlife. And he knows it since in the funeral, his face shows that deep down he has no one to blame but himself but his guilt and scornful hatred denies him from wanting to forgive them both (similar to freya when she loss baldur). He's broken not only cause he can never see his brother again in death, but that he done nothing to stop it from transpiring either by lack of foresight or his fear of brok knowing what happened to him.

7:57 God this bit stands out to me so much. Sindri was ALWAYS scared of Kratos and flinched in his presence. Here we see how that anger and grief changed him because he is now standing up to Kratos and staring him down. I hate seeing such a kind and endearing character become so consumed by his grief, it's a heartbreaking to watch.

I really appreciate how they gave Brok a proper sendoff rather than just have his body show up in that later cutscene with Sindri. Really shows how fleshed out this world is, and how Brock’s loss affected them all. Also, after rewatching the entire scene, I personally found it interesting that Sindri didn’t insult Kratos, only giving him the quick aggressive stance, but soon quickly stopping and walking off. I think this scene showed that while Sindri is still painfully grieving, he knows fighting won’t bring Brok back, especially after killing Odin. I think he knows that Kratos and others are trying to make an effort to rekindle a hopeful relationship with Sindri, but he needs more time for his grief. Rip Brok.

The way Sindri looks physically in the scene where he's holding Brok compared to the scene where he's at the funeral perfectly symbolizes what loss does to someone. It not only breaks their soul but it breaks them mentally to where they just don't care anymore. The man looks like he aged 100 years in less than a day.

I have such empathy for sindri. I would more likely than not be the same way he was if I lost my brother and after watching this scene a month ago, I've been trying to spend more time with him. Kratos in my little what if conversation “I know, what you are feeling Sindri, I know your pain, I too lost my brother to a god obsessed with prophecy, I didn’t know what to do. He was my only family left. And the gods took him from me too, but he died as he lived. A true spartan, a warrior, and he died fighting against prophecy beside his brother. Brok died as he lived, a brother, a true friend, and a blacksmith like no other with conviction and heart stronger then the weapons he forges, and with his brother beside him, and with no regrets, that is how we remember Brok, not for how he died but for how he lived”

I like how this game has a theme that is "We dont change/Cant escape our nature". Sindri's nature is not being able to let go. He couldnt let go of Brok when the spider killed him, he couldnt let go of Brok now, and he cant let go of his anger at Kratos/Atreus, which is misdirected anger at himself for what he did and the guilt he cant cope with.

God of War (2018) had its own goosebump giving scenes! But in this part of God of War Ragnarok, the scene of entering into the section where norns lived and their conversation with Kratos and Freya as well this ending scene of Broke's funeral is out of this world! If there was any Oscar for cutscene of the video games, this would have won it undoubtedly! The background music, the graphics, the emotions all pitch perfect!
