Me, who remembers everything Kratos did to them: Um, why are you eager to have Kratos, same guy that killed you all, come down to Hell with the rest of you? You DO realize he'll happily tear you all apart AGAIN at the first sight of you all, right? I mean, he's crawled out of Hell like 3 different times already. @@nnnmmmable First Kratos was victorious Spartan general and was beaten by barbarians. Then he pledged himself to Ares and became enforcer of Olympians. Ares decided to make him more focused by getting rid of his family. It worked and Kratos remained their enforcer. Then he got second thoughts and decided to find himself a new patron and found it because Olympians didn't like Ares. Cue Kratos to kill Ares with reward and Kratos does as expected and gets what was promised - he does not forget what he has done. Cue Kratos as resentful and bitter god of war. He goes on big rampages until Olympians decide to remove post of god of war and Kratos loses his divine power and gets killed. Cue Titans recruiting Kratos to be their enforcer and Kratos joins. As Titan's enforcer Kratos destroys his fate and leads Titan's attack on Olympus. Cue massive rampage and being abandoned by his new patrons at side. In the end Kratos' bloodbath all he has learned is that revenge is futile and his long-time patron and guide Athena abandons him as well. Cue Kratos surviving as human, recovering and arriving to Midgard where he marries one of Jötnar and gets schemed into another plot.

I feel like Thor is a mirror of what Kratos could have been, a broken god who is little more than a weapon wielded by others. The fact that he is the only one who can equal Kratos in strength feeds into that, like they are similar in many ways, just that Kratos has broken free and become better. Kratos even beats him when he taps into his younger more rage filled self, yet he also shows he can control it where he used to be ruled by rage.
@Resi1ience

I love the first fight with Thor. Not only do they perfectly build him up as a terrifying, formidable presence since the first game - they completely subvert your expectations by having him chill with Kratos for a minute. Even during that scene, he's such an intimidating aspect. You feel legitimately threatened by him and Odin showing up at the house. And then, when they fight - Kratos doesn't just lose. He _dies._ Thor _kills_ him, and revives him just to see how strong he really is. Incredible way to show power, rather than tell it.

I have to say. I LOVE the way this opens up. Last game Atreus has the dream about Thor showing up. And its this big deal and a big fight seems to be just a hair's breadth away. The fact that Calliope was mentioned in this game makes me think that Kratos actually relates to Thor's guilt in tormenting Modi and leading his sons to their deaths by Odin's manipulation
@LoriasGS
@LoriasGS Жыл бұрын
They have a lot of similarities, they were both manipulated into causing the deaths of one of their children, they both wiped out a race, they both had a cruel and abusive father who was leader of the gods of their realm and they're both trying to change for the child they have left. The main difference is Kratos is near the end of his journey of redemption and Thor is only just starting. I think Kratos realised this when he, Atreus and Mimir are talking about why Thor quit drinking and he recognised that Thor is going through what he went through, which is I think what motivated him to keep trying to talk to Thor at the end and how he knew that Thrud and Atreus' friendship would be the key to getting through to him.

When you hear stories about Thor in the first game you think he's a ruthless killing machine who kills for fun but in this game we get to see something different. You can tell he's a genuinely nice and cool person and he's like that because of Odin. Lines like "Nice place", "You're an OK kid" and "I wouldn't let that mask...", caring about his family, following his father's orders despite knowing their wrong and getting drunk because of killing the giants and other bad things that he has done really show that deep down he's a good person Also I like the detail that Thor isn't Odin's son but when Odin wants him to kill Kratos he is Thor's father

It's fairly heartbreaking how much of Thor's dialogue is him emphasizing or implying that he's just a stupid brute. It's evident of how he was raised by Odin, constantly being reminded that he's just a weapon for Allfather. The saddest one for me was where he was talking to Sif about giving Thrud swords and he says that she's smarter than her father. A powerful god whose self worth was brought so low by his own parent.

Yeah. They stepped it up a few notches in the later games. I think the first games set a solid foundation with most of the plot being driven forward by fear. Kratos only ascends to the throne because the Olympians fear Ares and then the next two games are all about their fear of Kratos. This even affects Kratos and it isn’t until he meets Pandora who isn’t acting out of fear of him. And that reminds him of a time before he was feared. When he was a dad. And he wanted that so much he was willing to abandon his quest for revenge for one moment. The games carry this on as Kratos is afraid for how his past will affect his son and in Ragnarok, hes afraid of the future he is creating for his son.

@Frozenmix1
@Frozenmix1 Жыл бұрын
@@jackhanver1420 no man. Loki did really sabotaged the making of the hammer but because of the bet they had with dwarves. Loki challenged them, that they wont create the greatest weapon ever existed and he bet his head for it. He did lost the challenge though. Odin didn't let them take his head off, instead his mouth was sewn up. As for the hammer, its not about the weight or "worthy" thing. The weapon itself was so enormously hot that could be wielded only with specific gauntlets, which Thor had. Mjolnir weighted like a feather for the wielder, but was heavy as a mountain for enemies. Thor also had a belt that doubled his own strength. So thats it basically. It is said that the hammer had some kind of own will and sometimes flew away. So Thor sometimes had to release it from troubles it got itself in. You should read the stories if you are interested. They are gore, but fun.

Small moment I haven't seen anyone else really talk about, during their fight Kratos throws his axe to hit a pillar behind Thor, knocking it over. But Thor says "Clever!" before it even hits and whacks the pillar away without even looking, showing how much more experienced in combat he is than a lot of the gods Kratos has faced up until this point. Thor is a god, but he's also a tried and true warrior, and this fight shows it pretty well

The immense copium in my blood hopes that he comes back in the next game somehow. Thor had one small moment of redemption only to be killed soon after, and his death felt like shock value more than anything else.

I really wanted to see Thor beat Heimdall's ass. Though...I wonder why he called Thor a "sick man". Thor's threat implied he'd just beat the crap out of him but his reply suggested something more sinister 27:19 - "Izza...good fight" cracked me up

A detail I never noticed at the beginning is Thor must have only poured the two drinks for Kratos and Atreus but he restrains himself from drinking himself. He savours the smell but even when Odin puts it in front of him he refuses cause he's trying to honour the promise he made to Siff. Odin's words "You're no fun anymore" just ooze with that trademark manipulativeness we heard about cause a drunk Thor was easier to point towards an obstacle and say "Kill" plus let's not even get into the emotional abuse has trickled down into even how Thor treated his sons

Santa Monica did a really good job making me like all these characters. Shit, even Odin, despite how much of a two timing snake he was, he had a charm that made me want to see more of him. Really made me wish this would of been a trilogy so they could of developed the Asgardians a little more and create a really epic Ragnarok. The Ragnarok battle felt a little bit quick and underwhelming.

My favorite part is Thor acknowledging that Kratos is weaker than he use to be in GOW series. Pretty much saying he isn't in his prime because he holds back on his anger.

Just a theory but i belive at 3:16 the whole first conversation with kratos and thor was just Odin making thor check if their were any traps hints the reason why thor signaled the raven and Odin showing up moments later just shows how little he cared about thor.
