Hey enjoyed the video. Ngl using the blades of chaos it's pretty easy to get to hercules' arena. I mean you just have to do the right then left door then climb up. (Was doing it on the 2nd hardest difficulty). I even cleared all the challenges before and made it to the arena (where the difficulty timer doesn't affect the fight). But the berserker were definitely hard. It would have been sick if we fought a type of valkyrie.

I love how Kratos got therapy in a God of War fashion. My only nitpick is that I would have preferred if the original Kratos VA could have spoken to the current Kratos. Would have been great. Still, it's nice to see that Kratos more or less has reached the end. I don't see that there could be much left to grow for him at this point.

While that is a cool what if, I feel there is also artistic merit in the representation of young Kratos just sitting there silently. Letting present day Kratos just take his past self in as is and do all the thinking, without the recreation swaying the thinking.

I think the way theyre gonna take Kratos in the future is to show the fruits of his labor with becoming who he does at the end of Valhalla. Because i can definitely see the story continuing having Loki travels the other pantheons like Tỳr before coming back to his dad and asking him for help restoring hope to whatever pantheon they decide to go to next. Starting the game off with him helping put the finishing touches on his realms before going to HELP another pantheon instead of HARM it

Hard to be likeable when the only time he opens his mouth is to say something at least vaguely pretentious. Someone actually spoiled his situation for me and at first I was vaguely annoyed. But that gave me the foresight to really pay attention to what he says and how obvious it is ands crazy to think about how much I’d have missed had I not known. I’m probably not going to have the time to play through this multiple times so I would’ve missed it entirely

This free DLC feels like a slap in the face against every single company that charges insane prices for something that should have been free most recent example is Mortal Kombat like you mentioned. I think we all want more studios to do this especially a certain company that had such high standards for sales it shut down a side company for not being able to meet those standards.

I guess that tracks, I would assume he’s not basing this on the absolute hardest difficulty. Idk how y’all do it, I don’t like replaying the same battle over and over so I just play on regular hard difficulties. Most infuriating thing to me is the fact that my brother doesn’t play god of war at all because the combat was too hard and annoying. But it was only so hard and annoying because he refuses to play a game on anything but the hardest difficulty available. He’s missing out on such a good game, I’m gonna try going for the hardest when I do the new game plus though

@@loxx2536 Which means the next games if they are separate duologies, or trilogies will see based on the endings of Ragnarok, and Ragnarok: Valhalla Atreus, or Sigrun traveling to Egyptian Mythology, Japanese Mythology, or Mesoamerican Mythology, and more than likely Kratos and Mimir heading to Celtic Mythology especially given all the hints we got in Ragnarok, and Ragnarok: Valhalla especially given that Mimir mentioned Nimue, the Kelpies, and went in depth about how big a asshole King Oberon was along with us learning Mimir's real name was Puck a major figure in Celtic Folklore, and connected to Titania, and Oberon via A Midnight Summer's Dream. Though the big questions are who will Atreus or Sigrun's companion(secondary lead protagonist) in either Egypt, Japan, or Mexico will be? And who the two big bads in either of those 3 countries/mythologies (The initial big bad and the ultimate big bad) be? and who will Kratos and Mimir's companion(secondary lead protagonist) when they travel to Mimir's homeland will be? and the 2 big bads(initial big bad and ultimate big bad) in Mimir's homeland be?

I've said this before on other GoWR: Valhalla videos, but I'll say it again. I'm not usually one for Rougelite modes/games, I tend to find they get a tad tedious with the continuous restarting, especially ones that don't offer permanent stat boosts. That being said, Valhalla managed to keep my attention without feeling tedious, and I was genuinely looking forward to each new run, especially since each run tied directly into furthering the story, and by association, Kratos' character. It took me probably around five or six runs to beat the story, but I was also playing on the recommended difficulty. Tyr was so fun to fight, making it feel like you're almost fighting another Kratos with how brutal Tyr can be in his fight, on top of recharacterizing him so he's much more distinct from the facade Odin put on, with Odin making Tyr seem like a cowardly pacifist, while the real Tyr is very much ready for a fight, just not pointless ones. I do agree with some of the criticisms, with the only real exception being the quests. I found them to be rather inconsequential, sure, but they were really only ever there as some extra side stuff you could do for a bit extra currency. The quests that actually had me going out of my way for them were the Mastery quests, as those usually grant you new cosmetics to apply to your weapons and armor. As for the ending, while I loved it, and loved the speech Kratos gave(Judge did an amazing job), I kinda wish SMS got Corey to come back to play Young Kratos so they could have an actual conversation, Kratos having to directly confront his old self rather than the idea and visage of his old self, not in a fight, no, cause as you said, that would be counterproductive to his character arc, but through a proper conversation, with Young Kratos clashing ideals with Old Kratos. I just feel like it was a missed opportunity for a bit more fanservice like you said with the Berserker fight not being a rematch with Heracles. Also, the fourth Rage being the Blade of Olympus was such a nice surprise

I was so pleasantly surprised by this DLC. Because it’s free, I wasn’t expecting much at all. I thought it would be just a random roguelike mode and nothing else. I had zero expectations. I didn’t expect a full blown story expansion with new gameplay elements. I may even like it more than the main story. Round of applause for Santa Monica. 👏 I’m sorry I doubted them.

The talk Kratos has with the being in the throne is better than a boss fight to me. What Kratos says and doesn't say is far more profound a character moment than fighting another enemy would have been. That speech is the most fitting note to end a DLC featuring a God of War finding their center. A God of War talking, thinking, not fighting, not waging war. Growing. Perfect.

I think that fight at the forum with the berserker king Hrolf Kraki and not Hercules is because in the main game after defeating king Hrolf Kraki, you get his sword as a relic and there is a conversation between Kratos and Mimir regarding what Kratos would do with that sword knowing it's terrible legacy. Kratos response was to use for it good, while doing good doesn't erase it's legacy it's story is still being written and future generations would weight its good deeds against the bad and decide for themselves. Kratos unfortunately didn't apply that wisdom to himself.

I really liked this dlc. And kratos accepting his past is a theme of the entire Norse sage tbh. In 2018 he learned to accept his past and in ragnarok he learns to embrace his past, especially with this dlc. It was really nice that Tyr justified kratos actions in some cases. This helps him elevate himself from a simple monster to what he really is. It really does go beyond a battle simulator in a lot of the encounters.

It'll probably a continuation that has either Atreus or Sigrun as the lead playable protagonist as Ragnarok, and Ragnarok: Valhalla "Spoiler Alert" ends with both of them leaving with Atreus leaving the world of the Norse aka real-world Finland to find any surviving giants left in the rest of the world, and Sigrun leaving to travel the world to discover herself. As "Spoiler Alert" after breaking the rules of Valhalla and saving Kratos and Mimir and after beating the main story of Valhalla during subsequent runs Mimir will mention how him and Sigrun fell in love during their first meeting along with talking about how much of dick Oberon was, and how before the events of Valhalla during a stay at Sigrun's house when she mentioned she wanted to spend the rest of her life with him, Mimir mentions that he politely told her no that he wasn't "able to give her what she needed to be truly happy due to being only a head" which Kratos rightfully calls him out on it aka calling him a "coward with low self-esteem who is using his disability as an excuse to cover up his low self-esteem" and after some more dialogue between them and Sigrun she mentions that after breaking the rules via saving Kratos and Mimir she was no longer allowed to enter Valhalla and had to go through her own trials to reaffirm her loyalty to Valhalla but she did some self-reflection and decided to not go through them and leave the world of the Norse(real-world Finland) and go on a solo global journey of self-discovery to truly discover what makes her happy and in a bittersweet cutscene Sigrun bears Kratos, Mimir, Freya, and her sisters goodbye and tells them she'll see them again after she finds what she's looking for and then she flies off.

I LOVED it from start to finish and even after getting all the story and side story dialogue I found myself replaying it because it was a fun game mode. I kept trying over and over again to have that perfect run where I'd melt everything in my path and didn't even realize how much time I'd sank into because I was having so much fun. Also I just really want a remakes of the first three games now. The Greek locations where so beautiful. Love how they explain Valhalla in this game as well. What could Young Kratos say to their older self that they don't already know? And what could Old Kratos tell his younger self knowing that he was blinded by rage and was set on a path of destruction and a lust for revenge. It is what Athena had said to Kratos when he retrieved the Blades of Chaos.

I really enjoyed your video, I just watched it as I only beat Valhalla myself a day prior but I thoroughly enjoyed this expansion and you can tell the amount of love and care that was put into it. I do have some comments on certain things you said in favor and of your nitpicks/constructive critiques; the labors unlock armors after completing enough of them and I think that was their main purpose and the nornir chests are really just for the loot at the end of the section in my experience and with the Hercules arena I get what you mean but I figured it was to be a blend, it does contrast with the two other special areas (the Boat with the Kraken and I’m blanking on the other name) that also significantly help unlock the Arena area as you can get two or three Valhalla’s Chosen defeated via each door. I would also like to point out that there is a lot of epilogue dialogues from more relic memories than simply the boat captain’s keys and also that you can get numerous dialogues with and about Mimir, Tyr, and Sigrun from repeatedly going through to the Greek section after beating Tyr the initial first four times to “beat” the Valhalla storyline. I loved this expansion so much, it added a lot to the story and characters and due to its mechanics made me appreciate its combat even more with how much added variety I had to have. The Tyr fights were also great and I loved his weapons and movesets.

Such Nostalgia to hear all those mentions and to get a little look into Kratos remembering them. Then this DLC hit, with so much call backs that blew me away. I always love when long franchise celebrate their past, without just playing on member barriers. To see him grow over the many greifs from his revenge quest, to tell the stories about the ship captain, his daughter and first wife, just warm my heart. Him and Helios even having cemestry during and before combat, is amazing. Helios was the worst of the gods during GOW3, so he really deserved a spotlight here.

One of my favorite things about the norse mythology is how they recontextualize the meaning of "god of war" as a title. if in the greek saga Ares represents what Kratos' downfall turned him into, Tyr represents the hope of what he can become.

These are some enemies that the greek enemies reused some assets for: Harpies: Nothing that’s really reused, but mostly similar to Nightmares, since they share the same animation for getting grappled by the blades. Legionnaires: Similar to Hel-walkers, but no moves are really reused either, just the idle animation from Draugr. Shield Legionnaires: Again, nothing reused apart from being similar to Hel-walkers with shields. Legionnaire Captain: Reused assets from Dagger and hammer wielding Einherjar brutes. Cyclops: Some original attacks, but mostly reused assets from Ogres. Wraiths: Some attacks and the finisher are from Light elf slayers, the burrowing is from Tatzelwurms, and a few originals. Sirens: No reused assets, the only thing similar is the song’s similarity to a Hel-revenant’s scream. Minotaur: Reused assets from Bergsras. Centaurs: Reused assets from Huntresses and electrifies you instead of burning you.

Honestly Ngl Santa Monica might be one of the most respected studio to ever exist they actually listen to their fans and give them what they want instead of unwanted bullshit.

I with you for the arena if they could re-skinned The berserkers in to Ares has a boss fight that would have been gjust great facing the God that started Kratos journey to become the God of Wars could get virtually any voice actor to play him have mess with Kratos and Helios making comments about it 😅😊

The gods Kratos encountered in Valhalla are the gods Kratos pitied or regrets killing (With the exception of Tyr) This is why he didn't encounter Heracles. He didn't pity or regret killing Heracles

it is nice that he thought of Magni and Modi and sw that they got the short straws, so he has them show up in Valhalla to respect them through combat where their family failed them.

I can’t wait to play this. The only reason I haven’t already is because I completed the game and accidentally deleted my save file. I now have to play through the whole game again before I can start it.

I may be tripping but the reason you fight Berserkers in Hercules' Arenes may be an anime Reference. In the Fate:Stay Night anime, Heracles, is summoned as 1 of the 7 servant class "Berserker. The main reason for not seeing Heracles is most likely a lack of Ressource for a Free DLC, but using an anime reference could be a nice cover.

I've actually managed to finally find the time to play and finish this in the span of two days, and I whole-heartedly agree with every word. I cannot stress enough that this is my all time favorite game for numerous reasons, and now that I've played this, my opinion has raised to an all time high! God I love Santa Monica Studios. They didn't need to do this, but they did anyway, and I appreciate all the time and effort they put into this just because they care. Bravo!

Týr (/tɪər/;[1] Old Norse: Týr, pronounced [tyːr]) is a god in Germanic mythology, a valorous and powerful member of the Æsir and patron of warriors and mythological heroes. Riordan-Tyr (pronounced "TEER") is the Norse Æsir god of war, courage, laws, and duels.

They should have done a cross promotion thing with the makers of Hades since this dlc is a rogue lite. Kratos could even mention meeting a version of Zagreus. And Hades could have God of war dlc. Imagine Zagreus wielding the blade of Olympus as a new sword aspect or the wind bow from GoW 2 or the fire bow from GoW 3. They could even have the blades of chaos as a special unique weapon with the different forms as different aspects.

I agree, this dlc was amazing and it still blows my mind it was free. One gripe I had was that the yougn Kratos, didnt say something to his older self, would of been a good way to bring the onld VA back. And it really makes me wonder where we are going next, where is the "God of Hope" going next? Will we stay with the Norse or are we off to Egypt?
