The original team behind Disco Elysium is still at ZA/UM. They only fired 3 of them but 7 of the founding members still work there, (not to mention other staff that aren't founding members), and they were only only fired at the end of 2021, meaning they all put work into the game for two years, likely after they did most of their work.

While I still enjoy the two new GoW games it's absolutely SHOCKING how much better the originals do various things. Character designs are better, boss designs are infinitely more memorable and difficult, regular trash mobs have infinitely more memorable designs and difficulty, magic is far more entertaining than runic abilities (most runic abilities are straight up trash that'll never get buffed), the lack of gear is actually a plus since in the new games the gear doesn't do anything interesting and is literally just stat bonuses (imagine D2 gear but minus all the nifty abilities uniques and sets had), Kratos was more entertaining (yes, I'm saying this as a father of two who can understand where new-Kratos is coming from), and most importantly... the locations and vista-spanning camera movements were actually INTERESTING (almost all locations in the new game are incredibly same and completely lacking in anything interesting to see). About the only thing the new games objectively do better are controls, acting, and graphical fidelity (none of which are really needed for a "good" game). I really do love 2018 and Ragnarok, but holy bologna did they completely drop the ball in various regards. At least Mimir masks the deficiencies by being entertaining literally every second he speaks. I was practically always waiting for him to comment on one thing or another, and he usually ended up doing so.

I noticed GMT ripped into the puzzle giveaway nonsense, too. FAR more games need to give hints that don't, but it needs to be the player that asks for them. I recently played through Jedi Fallen Order and right away every puzzle would have a prompt to ask BD-1 for a hint (never used it, no clue how helpful they were) and that seemed totally fair. Most of the time I figured the gist out right away and it was a matter of then figuring out how to manipulate or interact as needed, so I got them all ultimately on my own which always feels good. I cannot imagine how frustrating it would be being told the solution right away. I wonder if Prima strategy guides are still a thing? THey'd just have 20 pages for puzzle solutions that all say, "Let your companions tell you the solution" lmao.

Oddly enough, I was looking for the last Nornir Chest in the Forbidden Sands (Alfheim), and I could not for the life of me find it as I had explored everything. You should review Outward. I've heard it's a brutal, kinda old-school survival RPG like Kenshi where your decisions matter and you can fall asleep next to a campfire to get warm, and wake up captured by bandits or in an inn but you've had your money taken by the innkeeper to pay for it, and then you have to fight/sneak/pay your way out of whatever situation the NPCs have put you in. It's been on my wishlist, but I need an RPG enthusiast to tell me if it's worth buying.

Talking about game letting you pick a style of play and sticking to it is (Around 21:00) Is one reason i like Doom (2016) more than Doom Eternal. With Doom (2016) i can choose a few weapons that are relatively effective and play the game. To be effective in Doom Eternal you have to engage with almost all weapons, all abilities. Since enemies are extremely vulnerable to some and just tank the rest. I'm not saying that is bad design. It just is not for me. Though i do enjoy videos of people speed running Doom Eternal on insane difficulty channeling Doom guy.

Agree 100 %. Loved Doom 2016 but really couldn't get into Doom Eternal. Felt like the player freedom was taken away from the key aspect of the game: the manner in which you want to destroy demons.

25:50 i actually had to adjust how I played the game to deal with the constant puzzle spoiling. I (probably due to playing mostly jrpgs through the pandemic) am basically programmed to sniff out hidden areas first before doing puzzles because sometimes doing a puzzle would trigger a cutscene or story event and then that chest becomes missable. So while I'm crawling around intentionally ignoring the puzzle, I keep getting harassed with the answer. The real puzzle for me became solving it before my partner spoiled it.

It mutilates Norse mythology, it lacks the grandeur and spectacle of previous games in the series, and worst of all...I just don't like Kratos anymore. He's boring. Grumpy, speaks mostly in grunts, is overprotective, and does everything, *everything* he can to avoid fighting. Kratos has always been an asshole, but old school Kratos was a FUN asshole. When Fate told him he was done, Kratos kicked down Fate's door, killed his dog, screwed his wife, stole everything that wasn't nailed down, gutted him, burned the house down on his way out, and later would admit to himself he was quite satisfied doing it. Now, he'll give some heartfelt speech about the horrors of war and cost of violence. In this game, Freya is more of a Kratos than Kratos, and that is sad.

The funny thing about the puzzles is I was getting annoyed at having it solved for me within seconds and not even being able to make an attempt on my own. Yet when I was watching certain youtubers they'd be stuck on the simplest puzzles for 10+ minutes and their companion wouldn't say a word while I'm losing my mind that so much of this episode is just an easy puzzle and of course they don't make the episode longer to compensate for all the wasted time. So I think some people need those helping remarks but they really do fire off too early and often, for anyone not making a youtube video or streaming anyway it seems. An option to turn it off would be great but then those same youtubers would be stuck forever being too stubborn to want the "hand holding" I enjoyed the puzzles right up until you got the sigil arrows and then every single puzzle was just a connect the dots.

God of Halo Infinite Ragnarok Cutscenes- No cuts ever, no composition, no ratios, no perspectives. Hey look it’s Thor vs Jormungandr! ….way out in the skybox where you can’t actually see anything hehe. This games presentation is absolutely abysmal, in the pursuit of being “cinematic” it achieves the exact opposite.

I mean... I thoroughly enjoyed the story but yeah that was disappointing not not be able to see Thor and Jormungandr fight close up. Also I cannot be bothered with all the backtracking involved in doing a lot of the side quest and how you'll start one and pick up 5 more along the way so I don't think I'll be 100% this one. I doubt I will be fighting all the green knights either because I have to find all the weapon upgrades to do so, requiring me to do said side activities. It's a shame because I have fought and defeated a few of them so far and they were fun. I don't remember the last game locking weapon upgrades behind this crap.

Well, 1917 had "no cuts" and won awards so I don't see how that matters. I prefer the way the cutscenes get presented because cuts in video games are just so jarring.

@@virn333 Yes. It is indeed a video game. I did all the side content in the witcher 3 several times. I am currently doing another play through on the new gen version. I will literally do everything, go to every question mark etc, because I thoroughly enjoy evety second of it. I don't want to do that in this game and there's a reason for that. It isn't that "it's a video game".

It’s not as refined as gow 19. Poor animation in some parts graphical glitches kratos got stuck on a wall trying to run to a cut seen that triggered when I was in the wrong spot. Was sitting there for a minute and odd conversation cuts. Improved game play though

If you buy this game for the "gameplay" then its definitely Trash and not even worth 20 bucks. Cannot recommend it to anyone, not even my enemies. If you want to follow the Story, like in a movie, then its definitely a Treasure. So take your pick. After playing the previous game, which had the same trash gameplay. Id say, watch all the Cutscenes/Movie here on YT and enjoy. Because the Acting in this game is unreached in video gaming.

I'm still unimpressed by the new God of War because it's a downgrade from the original in gameplay terms. The story's still an uninspired tropefest that wishes it was a movie and doesn't know what to do with the runtime of a videogame besides waste time.

the 2018 game was much better. everything was in midgard and you could see stuff you can grab as you were rowing around the lake. mimir had much better stories. in ragnarok there was too much stuff placed in different places and you could miss a lot of it and it wouldn't make a difference. less is more. 70% of ragnarok was an unskippable cutscene but the story was garbage. there's no defending that. it was just a boring family drama. i don't want to hear about it.

The new God of War games are too different form the original games it looks and plays more like The Last of Us. Also remember when God Hand got shit for having the camara over the shoulder but GOW 2018 get away with it?

Kratos' movement also just looks kinda clumsy and awkward in these new games, like he has magnetic shoes and a ton of bricks in his back making him turn around feel like a chore, similar to how it felt controlling Marcus Fenix in Gears of War when he was sprinting.

@@HenkkaArtGames the original felt more graceful due to it's fixed camera angle while the new ones are completely dedicated to the one take gimmick that it makes the large scale fights look super awkward. Like that dragon fight from the original was some of the most awkward shit I've experienced in a action game
