This game was the second time I preordered a game ever, and by God was I not disappointed. It drew me in from minute one and I couldn't put it down for a month. Only reason I did was because the mid-year school break was over and even then, on weekends I still grab it like a deprived addict grabs a syringe. The only real issue I've had were the killcams/finishers/whatever; since there's only one per enemy type, it becomes incredibly noticeable once you take on Muspelheim. To anyone who complains about the combat with Leviathan: git gud, you fucking scrub. It's one of the most satisfying weapons I've ever had the pleasure to use in a game.

Not denying that it isn't a good game, but it doesn't help the case of the game when the fans are some of the worst human beings. The GameSpot reviewer got a lot of hate because he didn't give it a 10/10. After beating it, it is a solid 8 for me. The combat didn't feel satisfying until later on (when you get something) and it was a struggle until that point. Not to mention the side missions we're absolutely boring. The game also had a length problem, I felt it was way too long, especially for how much time in the main story it cuts to a cutscene. Can't deny that the story was fantastic though a little cliche and disappointing (the bosses). Recycled bosses were also a problem. EDIT: Thought I read somewhere that the Game Director said something to someone about giving it a low score.

How was difficulty curve on medium? Should incredibly experienced but not masochistic gamers start there or hard? (I am aware of on the fly difficulty changing but I hate that concept more than anything... If I have to bump it down to normal mid game, I might as well just plug in a cheat code, if i plug in a cheat code I might as well have the game play itself, if the game plays itself I might as well just go trade it in... that was a deep dive into my brain with that particular option, sorry)

this game is just breathtaking. it reminds me of the connection of Ellie and Joel from the last of us,.... but in a more fiery, mythical era. Perfect. the combat is amazing, the graphics (even on 1080p performance mode) is out-f*cking-standing! the story, the cutscenes, everything... literally. I cannot find ANYTHING wrong with this game! this is the game us players deserve. great job to the studio and team that made this gem possible.

My main question in terms of gameplay is that since there is currently no New Game Plus option, will there always be enemies roaming the areas even if you already completed the main and side quests? Took me around 20 hours to finish the main storylines and some of side quests (not all). Was kinda rush through the game because the story was interesting. Has lots of mini games and activities to do and definitely more than 20 hours if you didn't rush the main storyline. I played the Chinese version that came out the same time with ffxv and I just left my ffxv aside until I finished the game because it was lots of fun.

Great review! What difficulty did you beat it on ? I’ve been playing on Give me a Challenge for about 5-6 hours but man it’s tough, and in a weird way, not a dark souls/bloodborne way which I enjoy. Is the game still enjoyable/challenging on normal?

what about the jenky attack animations, particularly when the shield is out? it looks like they spliced together about 10 still shots as you so abruptly move around w/ little in between.
