What many people don’t know is that the runes in the mural have Laufey referring to Kratos as Fárbauti; the actual father of Loki in Norse mythology. The names Fárbauti and Laufey have allusions to the creation of God of Mischief, Loki. Fárbauti means “Dangerous/Cruel Striker,” and that’s referring to the Old Norse monicker for “Lightning.” Laufey apparently called Kratos this because of his history as a killer of Greek Gods, and reputation as a highly proficient Godslayer. Now, the name Laufey means “Full of Leaves” or “Needles” (like pine needles; Old Norse didn’t really distinguish a finicky difference between leaves and pine needles - they all fell from trees, so the word for them was the same.) So now, we move on to the allusion for what this means in the creation of Loki. Fárbauti (Lightning) strikes Laufey (Leaves/Needles,) and creates Wild Fire; and that is Loki, the God of Mischief, and one of the most pivotal figures in bringing about Rägnarok, the Fall of Asgard and Twilight of the Aesir Gods. (Though, “striking” here actually just means “fucking” or “procreating with.”) But isn’t that all just so cool? Kratos is Fárbauti! Lol I’m still geeking about this!

To all who said that Faye just manipulated Kratos for the prophecy, Matt Sophos, one of the lead writers from the game, had confirmed that Faye and Kratos loved each other, it wasn’t just a mean o tool. To be honest, I don’t see how people can said there wasn’t love between them. While we don’t see them on screen, the bond is there ever present.

Artemis By the way people talk/remember about her (Kratos, arteus and her allies) It seemed she was a noble and loving being (Least compared to most of the Norse land). I believe she more carries the heavy burden knowing that the man and son she loved with all her heart will have to face the world. Without her by their side. Plus it’s great contrast. Kratos is burdened with his painful past. While Faye was burdened for the painful future (Even if we didn’t exactly see it).

I wouldn’t say she’s using him...well, someone’s gotta take out the Aesirs sooner or later, they’re a bunch of assholes. I would think that this is an opportunity that she’s giving to Kratos to let him have redemption, to let him finally has a chance to do something good. Take the journey to Jötunheim for example, she was actually helping Kratos to actually learn to become a father and a teacher, and learn to bond with his son. If she didn’t order Kratos to chop down the tree that protects the woods, Baldur would never find them and they would never start the journey, Kratos was planning to delay the journey as long as possible, until Baldur shows up, and Kratos would forced to take up responsibility. In fact, the journey wasn’t a test for just Atreus, but for Kratos as well. Faye was still training Kratos from a closed heart, selfish person that kept his past deep inside himself to becoming a man with a sense of heroism and bravery to open up his violent past to his son, even after she died. Now THAT deserves Wife of the Year.

That's true but as Kratos says she could have had good reasons. There is a possibility that she used Kratos for her beliefs and selfish reasons like you said but there is also a possibility that she may not have wanted to meddle Kratos with the conflict between giants and gods since Kratos was trying to escape his past full of conflicts with gods and titans which really messed him up. It's too early to jump into conclusions since we don't know her motives yet, we'll probably learn about them in later games.

4 of the 5 steps up to the mountain peak were steps Kratos went up alone, and on the 5th and final step he boosted Atreus up to run ahead of him. 4 out of the 5 main series games, Kratos journeyed and ultimately conquered alone, but in this 5th one he and Atreus journeyed and conquered its trials together. And now it seems Atreus will be the one leading us forward. This really was Atreus’s story the whole time.

Luke Jones Idk if you were being sarcastic or genuine (or genuinely sarcastic?), but if its the latter, thank you and I super hope they did that on purpose because I love when game designers put that much care into their art-it really shows off how much love was poured into every aspect of the project, because its so clear when game devs DON’T give a shit about their work or their characters so its nice to see it be otherwise here, if that’s the case. If it was the former, I know, I’m very cheesy and corny and hammy (so many calories!) but my heart is full of love!

I'm not sure I am dighing the one-sided homicidal aspect they gave to the Aesirs. I mean, the giants/jotuns sound too kind and too good to be true, I was expecting something a little more gray. Oh well, it's still a beautiful story. All that's left for me is to wait for the next game to see if we get any sudden twists and show the Aesirs' side of things as well. Sidenote: remember that Sigrun, the Valkyrie Queen told them Odin had corrupted her sisters with "and old form of magick"? What "magick"? I am dying to see if that's the evils in Pandora's box that Odin might have gotten his hands on after the Greek Pantheon's extinction. There's also the matter of Athena. Michael Young I dunno. Odin could've achieved that peacefully like Mimir and Tyr suggested, but instead, he let his obsession with the Jotnar's ability for foresight to blind him. (no pun intended) I think Odin got powerhungry, wanting every little thing to be under his control and then his actions ended up setting the course for Ragnarok, reaching prleak when Loki and Kratos killed Bauldur. I dunno, Odin just sounds too erratic. I'm still wondering if something didn't cause him to become like this. Thor's behavior is suspicious too. The minute he sees a Giant, he just kills them. No boasts, no taunts, no laughing, he just brings down Mjonir on their heads and that's that. It almost sounds mechanical, like he's on auto-pilot to exterminate any Giant he comes across. I dunno. Like I said, I hope we get to see the Aesir's side of the story, cause they're looking lije too pure evil to be true so far.

Odin is already an asshole since the beginning, killed Ymir, started Aesir-Vanir war, committed genocide against giants, tricked Skadi to kill her own father, slandered Starkadr, killed his own son, etch and the only reason for him to do those atrocities is because he wanted to prolong his reign as the king of the 9 realms or other petty reasons nothing more. For Thor since he's the most loyal son of Odin he surely just obey his father's order without question since he's a bloodthirsty psychopath and because he also believe in Ragnarok and just like his father he wanted to stop it at all cost because he saw his own death, being poisoned to death by Jormungandr. If the Aesir (except Tyr) do care to mortals or other living beings they should've stopped being a bunch of assholes. Even Baldur openly admitted that most if not all the stories regarding his family are true, stating his family is fucked up.

Michael Camacho I'm unlikely to play this game anytime soon, and i couldn't see this last mural in detail on my phone's screen, but I do hope that Kratos's soul (or some part of it) will be bound to Atreus. Heck, freeing his soul might be a good questline! And I can imagine Freya struggling with coming to terms with Atreus. Maybe even almost sabotaging/actually sabotaging/trying to sabotage this quest... I mean, Kratos does deserve absolution (imo). But getting a last piece of his mind (pun intended) on the world would be interesting both story- and gameplaywise. Maybe, it would even be possible to create "builds" of Atreus, basing on him channeling Kratos of different timelines (pre-GoW4/GoW4)..? Almost in Prince of Persia:Two Thrones fashion, but done even better..?

Some1 guessed that Thor will kill Kratos, but then Sigrun will bring his soul to Valhalla (Kratos has eternal blessing of Valkir and they are probably not happy with their allfather screwing them up so this is actually possible). And I think this theory is very likely. I peronally think it would be amazing if we're going to play next God of War on 2 different perpective. Kratos at Valhala and Atreus at Midgard.

Here's my theory. Kratos dies, held in the arms of Laufey. Thinking he died fittingly, his soul begins to depart. But before hovering away from Atreus, The soul imbues itself into the BOI, allowing for him to release his inner potential, and a control of his rage. That ability to tap into a primal rage is what gives Atreus the ability to summon creatures. This is why the two wolves on the mural at the temple have red markings, and also why Jormungandr has reddish patterns down his body. If Atreus is asked how his father is doing, he'll say "He's comfortable" or "He's mad at me for my decision." Kratos lives on in the games through the raw power he allows his son to control. Forever helping his own.

Maybe thru learning of Odins prophecies or having kids like the world serpent and Fenrir.

Everytime i play Norse GoW i can only praise the Dev to put such a good writings on this game. They incorporate what already there in Norse Myth with an additional player in their story which is as we all know Kratos to the overall story. What makes my jaw drop is, they add Kratos not just an Add On or Additional Player to the Norse but HE is part of the Norse Myth in this universe. What he does, what he is not yet doing are directly contribute to the overall story line on Norse Myth. And that's insane. He is not only Kratos from Greece, but also Farbauti, Father of Loki, Husband of Laufey. The Cruel Strike.

14:53 kinda looks like Kratos dying and Atreus either pushing magic into him trying to heal/revive or using those same words of power to draw something out? Perhaps we will get to see Kratos' power get passed onto Atreus at the end of Ragnarok and the true Loki comes into being. i think it would be very cool if we got an epic battle where Kratos fights the Aesir and falls and we get to finish the final boss battle or area as Loki(Atreus) leading us into the future generation of the God of War franchise!
