GameSpot both games will reign as supreme for some time. They are both different genres. Last of us has shooting and stealth. While gow is all action. But they both represent pinnacles of gameplay. That's why dark souls will suffer if they don't evolve. Gow just made dark souls for everyone. Lou nailed pacing because it has both stealth and shooting. So the game is a blast to replay bc it never gets old. They are both masterpieces but I think lau had supreme pacing and gow nailed accessible 3rd person combat. Which other than dark souls nobody will be able to touch for some time.

Yes I agree. The last of us tells us a better story but GoW has better gameplay. To be honest you can't really compare in terms of graphics as TLoU was released in 2013 and GoW from 2018. A better comparison would be when TLOU part 2 is released.

Irfaan Faki it beat it for me. God of war is a 60-70 hour game. 20-30 for just the story. The last of us takes about 10-14 depending on skill and pace. And Atreus is actually helpful AI that isn’t really annoying and buggy. God of war runs and feels smoother as well. Way cooler story too. Not to shit on the last of us because it’s a phenomenal game. But god of war? There’s just no comparison

The bond between Kratos and Atreus is more fleshed out and a lot more relatable to me. Being very close to my father and having him teach me how to be a man and a good person while setting me straight when I let my ego get to my head hit home for me. My Dad had a rough childhood, and at a certain time of my life, it was hard for me as well. Yet he still taught me to be better than he was and make better choices in those hard times since he didn't know how until later in his life. For me, GOW takes the win. TLOU was too short for the bond to stick as well as GOW. On top of all of that, the gameplay, visuals, world and lore are far superior too.

I made it about 2 hours in on the last of us and put it down out of boredom. So I didn't really get to experience the characters or the story in any kind of meaningful way. That being said, I still think it's fair to say that any GOW title is going to blow away tlou in terms of combat. Being a lot more "advanced", has nothing to do with gaming technology. He's a god / god killer. As far as plot, NOBODY thought a sequel to GOW3 was even possible. And yet, Kratos is alive in Midgard and everything is larger than life. Conversely, TLOU's setting is surviving just another zombie apocalypse, and maybe that's why I got bored with it so quickly. I do have to admit to being a GOW fanboy. One thing I will say though, is that these two games aren't really comparable... except that both games have the father-son/daughter dynamic, and that they both got good ratings. That's it. They set out to do completely different things. From my POV, gow puts the SMACK DOWN on tlou.

Even Joel’s daughter who was in the game for about 10 minutes. Yet in god of war you are set with the task of spreading the ashes of a character in which you have no emotional involvement in.

The Last of Us is the better Emotional Journey, God of War is the better Action Adventure. The story is equivalent with both. Gameplay is obviously better in God of war, it's combat is more fun than the stealth and range gameplay of ND games, although their navigational gameplay is more quick and fluid than that of God of war. Overall I'd say God of war is the better game, just because of replayability. The new game + in TLOU is great but only for a few times. If GOW had a new game + then it would easily dethrone TLOU for me. I'd love to see what a future GOW can do with a bigger map, more open areas and evolved gameplay. Hopefully a slightly bigger emphasis on story imprint and characters. It has the groundwork to be greater than anything TLOU can achieve.

Debatable. Since both games have similar plots to begin with. Old, weather worn father figures traveling across a grueling expanse of land infested by powerful threats, venture into the world with their young, children companions in order to get to a certain objective which in effect, benefits the children. It’s practically too close to call.

The Last of Us is a more focused game, therefore better. What I've noticed in God of War is that, on paper, it has deep gameplay and a good story, but it's deep gameplay actually detracts from the good story. For so much of my time playing the game, I'm so worried about the exploration, RPG stats, combat moves, etc, that the relationship with Kratos and his son is just washing over me, with far less feeling of emotion than Joel and Ellie. It's not the fault of the writing, it's the game being so overstuffed and "gamey" that it's diverting my attention away from what's supposed to be the heart of the game. The Last of Us doesn't have this problem, it's combat and exploration is just about deep enough to be fun, but not so deep that it overshadows Joel and Ellie as characters and makes it's world feel fake. It's gameplay and story work in tandem is deliver something incredibly moving and more than just "fun". God of War's motto seems to be "more more more even to it's detriment" where as TLOU's is "Sometimes less is more".

man, tlou's gameplay is just hide, seek and hit. gow has multiple weapons, armor and elements rpg-like, special attacks, lots of enemys with different levels (of course they are reskins but they are more than the 4 enemys in tlou), weapons can be cusumized by runes and upgrades.... obviosly gow win in gameplay. AND the most important part of the game (at least for me): in gow you can tell the difference betwin running and walkking. But i enjoyed both games. (sorry for my bad orthography, english is not my main lenguage)

Last of us is dated, yes the narrative is amazing, but the gameplay is old and boring. I tried to go back and play last of us and I got very bored very fast. Didn’t compare to my first play through. God of War on the other hand is nothing less than a masterpiece. The narrative is fantastic, the fresh and brutal and the world.... every second you play this game you’re blown away by the world hats why I think every second of video is a spoiler to someone who hasn’t played the game. You need to experience it alone. Last of us is a very good game.. for the first time you play it. God of war is a fantastic game that you want to keep playing over and over again. Olly Sherratt the fact TLOU, a 4 year old game, is still being held up as a masterpiece, that was created on last gen consoles and lightly enhanced on ps4 just shows how much of a masterpiece it is. The real comparison will be TLOU2 vs God of War. Both next gen versions. I have a feeling TLOU2 will be another masterpiece, especially with the new amazing music. Gustavo is just an amazing musician and TLOU is the only time Gustavo ever made multiple songs and stuck around to do music again. He never does that for any one else.

The last of us has a unique concept on infected, It's kinda like a zombie apocalypse with extra steps but still plays out as an amazing story game and I like the idea of strategy and limited supplies/ammo

TBWeL its expected a father and son would bond. 2 strangers bonding under extreme circumstances is a more enjoyable story and emotional rollercoaster. GOW would seem more relatable, but there are many step parents who could feel more emotional about the bonding in TLOU. Its a matter of perspective. TLOU combat isnt amazing because its more realistic. Joel and Ellie are just normal people. Not a God of War. God of War has flaws to, so it boils down to emotional impact and journey which i still feel TLOU has mastered better.

I've played both games and it is definitely hard to choose. But I would have to say God of War wins. I say that because of the turn they took with Kratos. He's not as one dimensional anymore. There are some scenes where he wants to show his son that he cares but it is very difficult for him to do that because of his past, but showing that he's trying to overcome that and be a better father makes the character development and game so much better

You see, im not saying last of us story is terrible, im saying its overrated and its not a masterpiece as people say, a lot of people claim its a masterpiece 10/10, while for me i say no its not like that the story is mediocre and the characters are great, so overall i may give the story 7/10 but that is because of the characters and not the plot, the plot itself is 5/10 at best. The game itself is good but nowhere near the top 10 best game, the best thing about last of us is the mechanics of the game, they are intense and succeed in immersing you into the zombie apocalypse atmosphere.

God of war is the best game I've ever played the story the strategic combat the world the characters the graphics it's all incredible all of it. I present a point and smack in people's faces the thing is Tlou accomplished what Gow tried to do 4 games. after 4 games was sony only able to create something like GoW but tlou did that just in one game. kratos got plenty of development from the previous 3 games whereas Joel and Ellie got all their character designed in one series and trust me, that's not an easy feat

Kratos had no actual development besides "I'm angry , gonna bash my pop's head in, BRB" God of War just took the formula of TLOU and improvved it. Also it made a 2D character a likeable 3D one with actual feelings of remorse and regret further giving gravity and tragedy to the events of the last games. The only game when Kratos was more human so to say was in ascension. And that was a fucking prequel. Dude. The last of us is a marvelous piece of storytelling. But at some point in time, there will come a better piece. And in TLOU case I strongly believe that God of War finally defeated TLOU. Had it actually been a 100% open world I do believe it would've entered Witcher territory which I have no idea how it would've fared. but for now let's just admire the 2 best exclusives gaming had to offer/ TLOU- last gen. Andrew, what are you talking about? There was a reason why he was the way he was in the first few games. There was actually a good story if you cared to play the games instead of commenting nonsense. It wasn't trying to be an emotional family values type of game lmao. It was a hardcore story about betrayal and revenge. Maybe it's not your style, but it doesn't make the story bad. I loved it. For me TLOU was decent, but it took my ages to beat the game because I had no desire to keep playing. It simply wasn't fun, and the story felt repeated. (I watched many other zombie movies/games). Btw if you like Witcher, you should also play Dragon Age Inquisition.

I’ve just realised that in both games, the main protagonist risked the fate of the world to protect the child they’re taking care of. Kratos initiates the events that lead to Ragnarok earlier than expected and Joel refused to sacrifice Ellie for a cure to the virus.

Nathan Drake last of us which was my favorite game until god of war, has great combat but it add nothing new to it.
