Many points to meditate on with this sermon!!! The assiduous pursuit of reform with Luther when he was 'quickened' by study of God's Word. The bits of history Spurgeon presents are worth further study to get a more complete appreciation. Maybe in Spurgeon's day the people were made aware of Bible history as it was occurring and recent past history possibly taught and discussed at home and gatherings to consider events of significance relative to the Bible.

Question??!! Or should I say 'observation/revelation of the obvious perhaps'?!?! What of prevention by observing and properly participating to "....proclaim the Lord's death....." 1 Cor. 11:26 ESV, And at verses 29-30 cause of 'impairments and death' are given and worth our while to read entire 11th chapter very meditatively. A personal note; Growing up as RC I completed rituals and 'participated' in RC 'communion' but amongst "friends" claimed to be atheist. As an adult participated in 'Lord's Supper' with protestant congregation one or possibly two or three times. On my own at home I 'eat the bread and drink the cup and discern the body and proclaim the Lord's death'. But!!!??? It may be that God has been gracious to me with health despite my 'observation/participation' or lack of 'observation/participation'. At age Seventy two I use no doctor prescribed medication and the last time I saw a doctor was in 1989 shortly after being 'rescued' from a lifelong drinking habit which started quite seriously at age twelve. It was about another twenty five years til God 'rescued' me from potential consequences of cigarette smoking. Conclusion: I am still uncertain as to the why and how of my life but only can say thank you Jesus!!!!!! All glory to God!!!!!

Minute 11:51-12:10 Here Spurgeon criticizes the 'church' and applauds Whitfield and Wesley for having been 'favored' to seek the truth and present the truth faithfully?!? I probably should have edited my previous comment with this.
