You probably recall the OT account where Saul finally confessed to the LORD that he'd disobeyed His voice and thus sacrificed his kingdom. The prophet of God said, "Has the LORD as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and insubordination is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He has also rejected you from being king" (1 Sam 15:22-23). That, my friend, is scary business! Rebellion and unbelief meriting rejection by God? And that's exactly the subject Paul picks up in Romans 11. Since Israel as a whole is in a state of unbelief, has she been rejected by God? God forbid! Join us this Lord's Day for the exposition "God's Gracious Choice of a Remnant" (Rom 11:1-10). God has a glorious plan for Israel, as she has not been totally, nor permanently set aside. God's election of her as His people is all the guarantee needed!
