Wow, I really appreciate your comment. This is so humbling to hear. By the way I find that background music can be very distracting, but it can also add to the immersion if carefully managed. I do my best to have music add to the presentation and not distract from it. I'm happy to reignite your love for poetry!

Nicely done. FYI: The “deep down things” is primarily a reference to Hopkins’ own concept of “inscape,” which is essential to his poetry and motivates a related concept, “sprung rhythm,” the characteristic “messed up” quality of his lines and meter.

Hi! I've known your channel just yesterday and I'm so sorry I haven't BEFORE! 😂 I'm a student and poetry enthusiast from Italy and this is my favourite poem of all time. I happened across this video while listening to different readings of God's Grandeur, and I'm so glad I watched it! You have such a clear way of explaining verses and their hidden meaning and I can truly feel your wonder and your passion while you read this stunning poem! A genuine THANK YOU for making this video ♥️ Also, I have a question: despite loving Gerard Manley Hopkins more than any other poet, I have to admit it's still hard for me to understand the concepts of "Inscape" and "Instress", do you think you'll ever make a video about it? I would definitely watch it! Thank you... God bless! 🙏

Surely aluminum foil did not exist in the authors time
@AdamWebbCSECАй бұрын
That is true. Aluminum foil wouldn't exist until maybe about 100 years later, but it is likely that thin sheets of metal already existed, and so the author could have associated such objects with reflective brilliance.
