I love the atheist response to the theist asking, "Why don't you rape and murder all you want if you don't have God stopping you?" the response being, "I do rape and murder all I want, that amount is zero because I'm not a monster, and I find it disturbing that the only thing holding you back is a fear of punishment."

As a method of evangelism, this is a really dumb one! If I truly believed that the person talking to me was full of desires to rape and murder and the only thing holding him back was a voice in his head, I wouldn't ask him to take me to his church and say, "I want what your god can do for me!" I'd back away speaking very calmly and advising him to seek psychiatric help!

@adrianpetyt9167 It's human nature to do evil. That's why God has to give you His laws. Without God's laws, everyone does what is right in his own eyes. You live in a Christian country and benefit from its legal structure. Atheist countries are cesspools of Satan and robbery, rape and murder is acceptable if the mortal deity says it is.

The thing about a woman who didn’t scream loud enough during an assault is the earliest victim blaming. A freeze response is extremely normal. So is grooming where she isn’t even aware that what happened wasn’t her fault. Especially thinking how unmarried virgins back then meant teenagers, right? It’s just fn barbaric to say if she didn’t scream then she was into it.

It's even worse than that, because it's not even enough to scream. You somehow need to scream loud enough to be heard by other people (and then get those people to testify they heard your scream on your behalf). If your attacker has you far enough away from others..or, in a private room...or, attacked you when you were not fully conscious...or is simply covering your mouth...then you can do your best to scream & scream, but the only individuals who know you did your best will be you and your rapist. Obviously your rapist will lie & say you didn't scream, and obviously every person in your position will claim they screamed, so your insistence that you did scream is just a given to the people deciding your fate. (Like, if you're about to execute someone, obviously they're going to tell you they're innocent. If convincing you 'they screamed & no one heard them' is the only way to stop you from killing them, then of course that's what they'll tell you...and you'd be a fool to take them on their word.)

@@MindShift-Brandon Where does it say Jephthah burnt his daughter? He gave his daughter up as a living sacrifice. In Judges 11:37-38, his daughter tells her father to give her too months to hang out with her friends to lament her virginity. You think someone who is going to be burnt alive, is going to be crying over their virginity? That's the least of their worries. In Judge 11:39, it states that the father did according to his vow. But goes on to say "and she knew no man." "And it was a custom in Israel, that the daughters of Israel went yearly to lament the daughter Jephthah...4 days in a year (Judges 11:40)." If she was actually killed it would not read, "and she knew no man." It also states that the daughters of Israel went to lament with her yearly. As they initially did with her in verse 37. You and many Christians misinterpret this text. Her sacrifice is *somewhat* similar to Samuel's where his mother offered him as a (living) sacrifice to God (1 Sam 1:11,22,24,28). Anna the prophetess, who became a widow, dedicated herself to the temple (Luke 2:36-37). Had she not been married first and dedicated herself to the temple. She would have been a virgin throughout her life, just like Jephthah's daughter. You're wrong on many other topics too.

there are three harvests in teh bible. God removes all christians in the first harvest - we call it a rapture. Possibly this year. According to Daniel 12. end of harvest one? that's teh barley harvest over. The next harvest, is over seven years. YOU have seen a rapture? you see dead people wake up and they are fine. fully restored. so will you be an atheist, at that stage? will you say there is no God? when a billion dead people show up? and hundreds of millions have vanished? CLEARLY WHEN THAT HAPPENS.. EVERYONE ON EARTH with a brain? will say shit... God is real. I have no excuse? You may try to find one? But its obvious GOD EXISTS. No God has two more harvests? WHEAT and GRAPE. you can forget GRAPE? that's for Children. So you are wheat. Or you are a weed. The wheat and TARES, look the same? But the wheat droops. The Tares-weeds stand up straight. God sends his angels to gather souls bit by bit. over seven years. Those that refuse the mark, get the chop. They decide that life on earth is not worth eternity in hell. They are wise. They TRUST GOD. so get killed. Murdered. So after everyone decides if they want God or Life on earth. with a MARK. its over. The 6000 years have elapsed. God separated out the weeds and the crops. Only WEEDS think this is bad. TOUGH. You cannot go to hell thinking there is no God. It is CLEARLY DECLARED. But first God takes those who believe by FAITH ALONE. If you do not look for God today? DONT WORRY, he OPENS YOUR EYES WIDE post rapture. YOU SEE HIM. But do you want heaven? Or do you want to be a MURDERER? we see what happens from 2023-2030. today you say you are a good guy? lets see what happens in the next few years?

Incorrect. Morality has always come from God alone. That is why you have a conscience. The moral law of God is written on it. "who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them)" (Romans 2:15) No matter what anyone says; famous or not; it will not change who the author of morality is, (the 10 commandments).
@Trigger-xw9gq
@Trigger-xw9gq 11 ай бұрын
You need to realize that quoting scripture is pointless and useless. The bible is the claim, not the evidence. Fail. The fact that we can judge the morality of a religion clearly indicates that morals are grounded in something else. They are organic in their existence and evolution, and predate any religion. We couldn't have survived as a species without them.@@christophergibson7155

The "new covenant" argument alone kinda proves the point - how can God be an objective standard of morality if he changes the standards by which people are judged? Either the things are bad or they aren't. If they only "used to be" bad and no longer are, then morality is just a changing opinion.

Just to attempt to steel man the position, I believe the Christian viewpoint would be that the Laws of Moses are technically still in effect, we just don't necessarily have to follow them because the covenant with Jesus supercedes them. So, presumably, all the things God considered wrong in the Old Testament are still wrong, and all the things he considered good are still good, he just doesn't bother to hold us to that standard because accepting Jesus would erase those sins anyway. At least, that's what I would think the argument would be.

Absolutely love when the hardcore religious project that Atheists are the way they are solely because “they just want to sin or they just want to be their own God”. Then you bring up ANY of this to them that God either did himself or looked the other way and all of a sudden, the excuse patrol shows up in massive force, trying to rationalize and justify all of it. But you can see in their eyes that they are massively struggling with trying to justify it themselves. You get a lot of “his ways are just higher than ours” or “well it’s just a matter of context”. Blah blah blah. Anytime I get this kind of garbage “logic” I end the conversation with: “If you need the promise of a reward to do Good and the threat of an eternal punishment to not do bad, congratulations, you now have the morality of a Border Collie”.

Suspect that the “because you want to sin” line, is projection on the Christians’ parts; all being born sinners, by their very nature can’t avoid sining, but that doesn’t matter because as believers their sins are forgiven anyway, so they can sin all they like. Very convenient for someone who wants to sin.
@roc5291
@roc5291 11 ай бұрын
@@davidmgilbreath Yes. That’s yet another massive problem I have with Christians. They are told from day 1 that they are the ultimate “Chosen Few”. Their congregation pumps their ego up to 11 doing this and so, when YOU sin, it’s because you CHOSE to do so. When THEY do it, it’s by accident, or because of the Devil or because of the presence of evil or because they didn’t pray enough or were 5% short on the collection plate for that week. But, thats ok, because they know deep in the back of their mind, that they are ALWAYS going to be forgiven and the vicious cycle starts anew. They will ALWAYS be the exception to the rule and that mindset does horrible things to good people.

@@MindShift-BrandonReally? Jesus Christ fulfilled hundreds of prophecies including Genesis 5. The names mean "Man appointed mortal sorrow but the blessed God shall come down preaching. His death shall bring the despairing rest." Jesus Christ needed a human mother. All flesh had been genetically corrupted outside of Noah's family. The flood was necessary to save humans. The Canaanites were also nephilim and needed to be eliminated for the same reason. I don't know all the reasons God does or did things but some of your objections were false, such as rape and then marry the rapist after he pays fifty shekels to the girls father. Those verses referred to fornication, not rape. The KJV Bible got it right but some translations did not. I don't have time or desire to go through all your objections. l am a Christian and I do trust that God is good. I have read the Bible cover to cover four or five times. Communism is rooted in atheism. I don't trust atheism to render good moral judgments. The United States was heavily influenced by Christianity and we do have our problems but we are far better than communist countries. Dictatorships throughout time tended to kill Jews and Christians first. Those governments are usually enemies of our faith. How to create a monotheistic religion in 3 easy steps: Step 1: Create an in group and an out group (aka: God’s chosen people vs the rest of the world). Step 2: Create a doctrine that outlines the different fates of the two groups (ie: the believers will live happily forever in some version of heaven or paradise while the non-believers will be tormented forever in hell). Step 3: Personify human psychology as Divine beings that have control over you and then condemn everything that could lead to self realization and empowerment as “occult” and “dangerous”. Congratulations, you’ve just made the foundation for 1/3 of the world’s religions.

Yeah, the estimations of my books back in medical school said about 20% of potential pregnancies are naturally aborted because of some defect (and people do not notice, this happens when the embryo is, at most, the size of like, your toenail at the largest, so you basically have a "normal" menstruation and never notice you were even pregnant). That is why I get so incredibly annoyed when some imbecile says they want to criminalize even spontaneous abortions out of some sense of misguided "morality" which I suspect is way more about power that it is about respecting the sanctity of life.

It really doesn't matter what your pattern of beliefs are. Because they are just yours. There is nothing significant about of you spare or take life because neither you or anyone else has an objective truth of morality. Just because you don't cause physical harm or whatever does not make you good or bad it just makes the same as everyone else if there is no God, thus no real morality. With that being said, if God is real, based off whose authority can you challenge his? Also just because some Christians don't practice what is taught in the bible doesn't mean they are going to hell. That's a fundamental misunderstanding you have of what Jesus did on the cross. We don't go to heaven based off the good we do here. We go to heaven based off believing in God as our lord and savior and redeemer. Only through Jesus can you get Into heaven. A 'Prime Mover' creator god cannot exist. Assuming a state of 'nothingness' is even possible, If the claim is 'something can't come from nothing' (nevermind the special pleading) then something certainly can't exist in nothing either. If this Prime Mover created 'everything', where did he exist before he created a place in which to exist? (answers akin to "He's the Great and Powerful Oz" - are neither satisfactory, logical, or demonstrable) - 'Being' implies a place in which to 'be'. There had to be some form of spacial construct for this god to exist in before he could exist in it. Religions, by their own arguments, have created a god that is nothing existing nowhere. Not to mention that vague deistic arguments for a god are completely pointless - because a god that doesn't interact with It's creation is as irrelevant as a god that doesn't exist (this applies to all lessor god claims too). The only relevant arguments for religion must be about what this supposed god does for, or to, the universe - not whether a god merely exists... and ALL specific claims about magical interactions of a deity are unproven, illogical, and absurd - and often horridly immoral; thereby rendering the entire premise moot. You can all go home now - the war is over ... Claiming, "God exists outside space and time" is incoherent and vague -- unless 'outside space and time' can be clearly defined and proven to exist one might as well insist, "God exists banana".... and if you can't get past, "in the beginning", there's really nothing left to talk about. (I could have abridged all this to simply asking (the Abrahamics, anyway), "So, "in the beginning there was day and night but no sun?)

Our decisions won’t have the same circumstances no matter how similar the choices are, only God knows how that would look like, when God says he has an establish plan it doesn’t mean that we were wired to do exactly what that plan goes but it is at least expected to be done (especially if you’re a believer). I remember hearing my mom listening to a Christian KZbinr a while ago responding to an atheist. The atheist said “Where’s the proof that god exists?” or something along those lines. The Christian KZbinr responded by saying “You believe in morals right? Without God those morals don’t exist. God is objectively moral.” Or something like that. Now my parents have been fundamentalists Christians since 2020. I still live with them due to financial issues and up until that point I had never heard the “Objective morality” argument . But I just remember thinking to myself “That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever fucking heard. It makes no sense. Im not Christian but I know that murder is wrong. I know that rape is wrong. Why? It’s fucking common sense? Because it hurts other living things? So now they believe that the only argument for morality existing is fucking god? I’m so fucking tired…” Those words exactly.

As Jordan Peterson asked Matt Dillahunty why does his life has value and he said don't claim that is self evident since that's goes against skepticism. Matt couldn't give a good answer why his life has value. This is the problem with skeptical atheist claiming "murder" is wrong. Most people claiming to be skeptics are fakes. “A little philosophy inclineth man's mind to atheism, but depth in philosophy bringeth men's minds about to religion” - Francis Bacon, the father of empiricism.

Even the audience laughed at that answer. Now someone can" believe" their life has value is not the issue. Remember Matt is suppose to be a skeptic as Peterson said it's self evident is not an answer for skepticism. @@lancemarchetti8673 1) Because I would never think of harming another human being, let alone actually doing so. For example, I would not order the mass slaughter of people just because they happen to be in my way and I want their land. I would not wish to force a virgin rape victim to marry her rapist. I would not order the mass incarceration and torture of people for merely not "believing" or "worshipping" me. I guess the moral principle at work here, and is probably what guides almost everyone today, is the idea that it is wrong to bring harm, hurt, and suffering to other people. This is empathy. On this principle alone, your bible can be demonstrated to be a very immoral book. Grotesquely so. 2) There are plenty of scientific studies you could consult that demonstrate that empathy is a product of evolution. I would also point out how much liberal and tolerant the modern world has become as humanity has evolved into a "global village." Pretty easy to be a Christian bigot when you are confined to your trailer park in the south and those are the only people you EVER traffic with. However, with the rise of mass communications, we are increasingly in contact and trafficking with other people from all sorts of diverse backgrounds. The more people experience "the other" the more and more tolerant and liberal they become.

@Kenneth-ts7bp He's really not. It's all in the Bible. When will you people grow up? --------------------------------------------------------- *This website is designed to spread the vicious truth about the Bible. For far too long priests and preachers have completely ignored the vicious criminal acts that the Bible promotes. The so called God of the Bible makes Osama Bin Laden look like a Boy Scout. This God, according to the Bible, is directly responsible for many mass-murders, rapes, pillage, plunder, slavery, child abuse and killing, not to mention the killing of unborn children.* I have included references to the Biblical passages, so grab your Bible and follow along. *It always amazes me how many times this God orders the killing of innocent people even after the Ten Commandments said Thou shall not kill.* For example, God kills 70,000 innocent people because David ordered a census of the people (1 Chronicles 21). God also orders the destruction of 60 cities so that the Israelites can live there. He orders the killing of all the men, women, and children of each city, and the looting of all of value (Deuteronomy 3). He orders another attack and the killing of all the living creatures of the city: men and women, young, and old, as well as oxen sheep, and asses (Joshua 6). In Judges 21 He orders the murder of all the people of Jabesh-gilead, except for the virgin girls who were taken to be forcibly raped and married. When they wanted more virgins, God told them to hide alongside the road and when they saw a girl they liked, kidnap her and forcibly rape her and make her your wife! *Just about every other page in the Old Testament has God killing somebody!* In 2 Kings 10:18-27, God orders the murder of all the worshipers of a different god in their very own church! In total God kills 371,186 people directly and orders another 1,862,265 people murdered The God of the Bible also allows slavery, including selling your own daughter as a sex slave (Exodus 21:1-11), child abuse (Judges 11:29-40 & Isaiah 13:16), and bashing babies against rocks (Hosea 13:16 & Psalms 137:9). ***This type of criminal behavior should shock any moral person.*** ***Murder, rape, pillage, plunder, slavery, and child abuse can not be justified by saying that some god says it’s OK.*** If more people would actually sit down and read the Bible there would be a lot more atheists like myself. *Jesus also promoted the idea that all men should castrate themselves to go to heaven:* For there are eunuchs, that were so born from their mother’s womb: and there are eunuchs, that were made eunuchs by men: and there are eunuchs, that made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it (Matthew 19:12). *I don’t know why anyone would follow the teachings of someone who literally tells all men to cut off their privates.* The God of the Bible also was a big fan of ritual human sacrifice and animal sacrifice. *And just in case you are thinking that the evil and immoral laws of the Old Testament are no longer in effect, perhaps you should read where Jesus makes it perfectly clear:* It is easier for Heaven and Earth to pass away than for the smallest part of the letter of the law to become invalid (Luke 16:17). There are many more quotes on this topic at my Do Not Ignore the Old Testament web page. *If you follow the links on this site you will learn about all the nasty things in the Bible that are usually not talked about by priests and preachers.* www.evilbible.com/ Watch *"Context!!!!!!"* by NonStampCollector (A good video for believers who try to rationalise Biblical atrocities and immorality by saying "Out of context".)

@christasimon9716
@christasimon9716 11 ай бұрын
@@lancemarchetti8673 Hello. I assume your comment was directed at me. A couple things: First, I'm not here to "beat you up", neither you nor anyone else. I enter a conversation when someone else claims that atheists (frequently framed as "atheist religion") have no morals, or the other favorite, "You know God is real. You just _say_ you're an atheist because you want to sin." If I wanted to sin, I'd adopt Southern Baptist and do all the sinning I want, and then say, "Jesus forgives my sins, why won't you?" and then keep on sinning. Second, I don't have a problem with you being a follower of Jesus. And I _won't_ have a problem with you, as long as you keep it in church and _don't_ try to force Intelligent Design into classrooms to try to replace actual science. As for my moral compass (or "rule for life"), "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" is a pretty good start. Treating people the way you want to be treated covers a lot of basics, but admittedly can break down when interacting with people who have certain BDSM fetishes. Another good moral test is to weigh "net benefit" vs "net harm" of the consequences of a concept or action. I think most people would agree that trying to minimize harm is a good way to live. Note that neither of these moral compasses bring the divine into the conversation at all. The second one _does_ require a common reference frame of what is considered "harm". Hopefully everyone understands what pain and suffering is, and as a social species we try to avoid that, again certain fetishes aside. Does that answer your question?

There are other religions that have great morals. Zoroastrianism, for example. You get morals from religion, not just Christianity. You can't get morals from atheism because apparently, there is no creator a d this is all an accident and there is no life after death. So why would it matter if I offended you or beat you up since nothing matters anyway? And the morality that you have is from your culture, which, if you are western, its from Christianity. Even if you don't admit it you are borrowing Christian values if you're a western atheist.

I apologized to my husband yesteday for trying to get him to go to church so much. So glad my marriage made it through the crap the bs that was put into my head. So glad my children decided young that they didn't want anything to do with church, which of course I was treated badly for at church. I was a horrible mom who didn't force her kids to be there. Told to drag them there. I did not. I knew that was wrong. So much in the Bible can be twist to fit which ever church one is attending. I feel like I've woken up and I'm trying to figure out what is reality. For 20+ years I was told the Earth is very young, I've seen Ken Ham speak. Like my dad took me to a monastery and there was a very beautiful part in the mountains you could visit, but you are allowed only if you are a man bcs apparently if a woman goes there it brings death??? My dad told me he will go and make some pictures to show me, but really? I know he did not know and was feeling bad, but how the F do I bring death??? Yeah, I believe in something, and I usually just talk with the higher power that I believe is there, idk who is listening or what is listening to me, but I feel better, and things go great in my life. Yes but that is contradicted by everything he just listed in the Bible. Unless you're not responding to his criticism of the Bible. In which case: I **guess** Not to mention that people have completely different desires. I might not want to cut a slit across my finger but there might someone who *does* enjoy cutting a slit across *their* fingers. Treating people the same in that regard in that instance would seem somewhat irrational with respect to treating people the way they want to be treated.
