So I decided to go back into the original project file and just do a re-edit as if I were editing one of my videos now. And boy is it way better...or worse. Did I just George Lucas my own video? You decide! Here you have it, a re-edit of my original God's Not Dead review. ENJOY!

Got to love how this movie doesn't even try to offer an explanation for why absolutely none of the students bothered to report this incident to the Dean, who would sort out the entire situation with just one conversation with Raddison. This would be such a PR nightmare for the college. The film's insistence that a freshmen level philosophy professor would have the pull to make Josh's college life miserable is also laughable, and probably the least realistic part of the film.

And under the assumption that this movie could be feasible, the idea that this professor who has all the power in the class, would agree to let the students decide who wins, is absurdly goofy. He's already got enough arrogance that I don't buy him agreeing to that or even giving the b student a chance to begin with.

The movie is called God's Not Dead, but instead of telling a story about helping people keep their faith despite the progression of philosophy and science, demonstrating how faith exists regardless as it has never been about facts or being something that exists solely through philosophy alone, showcasing the numerous aspects of it that create the whole that is faith, it's instead about.. some strawman atheist yelling at a generic christian dude. ... Even as an atheist I feel like I could make a better christian story about Nietzsche's statement about The Enlightenment.

Honestly, that would have made a better movie. Say the Christian begins to question his faith while taking this philosophy class [you could even use the full quote "God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him." That could be the big mic drop that kicks off his crisis of faith and it could end with him concluding God's Not Dead] have him speak with his professor, his atheist classmate, his Muslim classmate and through this process, you could have a conversion subplot with one of the atheists [say the Chinese classmate but not the professor] and have Joss build a stronger foundation of faith. College is the time a lot of kids move away from home and realize the way they were raised wasn't as perfect as they thought, so it would be the best time to find yourself and start building who you are as a person.

A very good point. I had a...slightly similar experience like that. Back in my third semester at college, I was a little worried I wasn't acting like a Christian-not reading my Bible enough, to not get into any details. So, one day, in one of my english classes, my professor was talking about something about how people want God's will be done but asking Him to change it. I, feeling I had to defend my faith, tried to debunk his point but...pretty much made myself look bad. Thankfully, he didn't make me feel like an idiot. However, in that same year, I was talking to one of my classmates, who used to be in the same math class as I, about how I was doing so well. He was doing better, too but was able to get another class w/out hurting his schedule, I believe. Anyway, he asked me how I was able to be in that class-it was hard. I said, simply, "God." and he accepted my answer with respect. That was my second chance at being a better Christian. Now, of course, there's nothing wrong w/ using philosophy to argue your faith, but if you aren't living it, that's bad.

sadly most Evangelicals never heard the actual quote "God is dead, and we killed him." most protestants have over rationalized their faith and taken any mystery and magic out it since it would be irrational. it also does not help how most Evangelicals abuse prophecy in the sacred scriptures to fit every newspaper headline as if it were prophesied in the text besides making a gap in the seventy week prophecy more than four times longer than the entire prophecy to force a seven year period in Revelation where seven it used many times but never seven years. only 1260 days, 42 months, and times, time, half-time given you just under 3.5 years due to a year being approximately 365.25 days long. must have wrote the script of this film using surveys of Evangelicals of what the thought when they heard these different term; atheist, philosophy, god is dead, vegetarian, karma, etc. sadly the second is no better and even forced the lesbian mayor of Houston into it hoping to set up the next film, which forced third to change directions due to those events going nowhere. i wonder if they have written the fifth movie script yet. i already know the book they will used to set the story God versus Government. i am almost done with that book, and its theology make Bonhoeffer a devil.

God's Not Dead sequel idea: Godless scientists at Hadleigh University resurrect Professor Radisson as a cyborg to prove that man can create life. A creationist scientist must debate them in front of the ethics board to prove only God can create life & they have merely animated a soulless corpse. You could use any number of existing characters in this role. We never established the major of most of the students. I vote Ayisha.

Defending His honor? Defending Him in court because He can't defend Himself? Like God doesn't really have glory until our government and population all acknowledge Him. I saw a review from a guy not long ago that I think sums things up perfectly: The movie would have been so much better if, at the end, the professor revealed himself to have been a Christian performing an experiment to get his students to think more critically. Instead they killed him off, with a shallow “death bed conversion” scene to please some viewers. It’s very mean-spirited.

I'm not Christian, and I can't stand this series [A Light In Darkness was okay] but the whole premise of the film, taking a philosophy class and being shocked you need to pretend for the purposes of a philosophy class there is no God of any kind? I've taken World Religion classes and all but one course, on the first day, the teacher explains that for the purposes of the class, the religions would be taught from an atheist perspective with as little religious bias as possible so each religion is given equal respect and not viewed as evil or sinful as the result of another faith. The only time this wasn't the case was when my Christian elementary school had a world religions unit and it was nothing but "why Christianity is right and every other faith is evil." For, say, one hour a week, you need to see things from a non-religious point of view. How is this so horrific? And as for the professor, why is he wasting everyone's time giving someone he disagrees with a platform when he's paid to teach philosophy and the students paid to learn philosophy and not hear a sub-par sermon from a fellow student attempting to convert them?! Honestly, it's the fear mongering of these films that boils everyone down to a stereotype that infuriates me. I've got nothing against Christians, but this? This fear someone's out to get Christians because they were asked to give other people the same rights? God's Not Dead is scaring their audience into extreme views. That's honestly why I liked A Light in Darkness, it showed a complex situation and showed both sides. It also felt more real than this Christian Pulp Fiction where only the Christians get good endings.
@Rhewin
@Rhewin 2 жыл бұрын
It mainly bothers me that the last one, the only one where the Christians finally admit that maybe they should be promoting peace instead of fighting, is the one that did the worst. Evangelicals just want to be reassured that they're the victims no matter what.

You know, this movie would've been better, if not great, if this had been a 30-40 minute short film about a Christian freshman, Josh Harper-come on, let's give him an original name-goes to a secular college who is doubting his salvation. He is failing in his philosophy class. His professor, a nice atheist, tells his students that he would be styling the midterms of debating the while "Does God Exists" by dividing the class by who will defend his existence and who will oppose it. They won't be graded on if they can win but rather hpw they defend or oppose to God's existence.Josh ends up getting the side where he has to defend it. He decides to use that time to reaffirm his faith, as well as use it to preach to others, off campus. But, nothing's working. And, he feels more distant from God. Josh is afraid to tell his parents because he wants to be this "good Christian kid who has it all together." It's not until the climax where he realizes, by his parents that the reason why he is doubting is because he hasn't been living his life to God-using the class time to convert people and not allowing God to do the converting. He is dependent on himself to change people's hearts but realizes he has let God be in charge of people's salvation. If He uses the debate=so be it, if not, then let it go. Also, Josh has been getting into arguments with his parents, getting short with people, ect. Once Josh puts God first, he starts to live his life to God's glory and allows him to have control over his debate. This takes a weight off of Josh's shoulders and soon, it's his turn to debate his opponent. John does a good job and passes the debate with a (B+) he passes with a B, which he is ecstatic. Next, semester, Josh is in a different class and sees a student who was in his Philosophy class. They chat, and his former classmates mentions that how hard they class was abd how he struggled to make it. He asked Josh how did he manage to stay there. Josh smiles and says "God." The classmate nods in acknowledgement and then they wait for their class to start.

That storyline with the girlfriend made NO SENSE to me. She, A TEENAGER, berated her fellow TEENAGE boyfriend because he... lightly rebelled against authority? ALSO, She berated her boyfriend because he... debated his beliefs with a professor, who by the way was being aggressive, antagonistic, and borderline abusive and at one point even borderline physically assaulted her BF because he disagreed with his teachings? Don't get me wrong, there could've been realistic tension in this storyline that would've made sense. Maybe for instance she wants to have sex, but he doesn't want to because of his beliefs. Heck, in the story, if you want to keep the relationship tension on the debate with his professor, give her an underlying storyline where she is secretly struggling with her beliefs, bordering on atheism, and her defense of the professor is her projecting her own inner conflict on her BF. NOW THAT would be realistic and something that ACTUALLY happens.

As I heard from someone on YT, this movie serves no one; Christian, Atheist, Chinese, or Muslim. I mean, come on, if we're going to be talking about standing up for our faith in schools, Josh already did that when he refused to sign the paper and write what the professor wanted. Also, not one single classmate of Josh's is Agnostic? Raddison was belittling them, too.
