AI is like a snowball rolling down a hill.. yes we started it but it grows by itself. We create a code that creates code by itself. Now we have made a quantum computer which can do a calculation in 5 mins which would normally take today's computers septillions of years (1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 years). So these nobel proze winners are saying in ten years a quantum computer mixed with AI is going to figure out we are destroying earth and start eliminating us. It won't be like terminator it will be AI controlling our recources so we can't survive or have babies and multiple. If they sterilise us we go extinct in 100 years. They have countless options to destroy us they will choose the best. Maybe the select a few to do better.. maybe AI will wipe us out completely who knows but some sort of end is inevitable because humans are having a negative affect on earth and AI won't allow it.

Stop the biggest threat based on reason and evidence. 262,000,000 human lives were ended by government in the 20th century (democide numbers NOT war casualties). That was with Industrial Age technology. Imagine what they will do with AI enhanced weapons systems. And they already are using AI in warfare and doing the research and development to make that possible. Imagine what they could do with AGI (artificial general intelligence). You can be confident that it will be quite a different outcome than the statistic of 99% of rounds not hitting their target when aimed by humans, historically. Don't worry about Starbucks using a Terminator to put cappuccinos in your hand. Not going to happen (see _Practical Anarchy_ by Molyneux for more). And I'm sure we can figure out how to build the roads. Or don't. Roll the dice with humankind. Gamble that an organization with a monopoly on the initiation of force and a long track record of destruction will somehow be.... something that it isn't.
