Everyone wanted to be the top... But that's not realistic. A wrestler told a new guy if you want to go far just do what they want you to do. Then you'll get a good reputation that you're easy to work with and hire. Kurt Angle surprisingly just did whatever. Ron Simmons and Butch Reed made the tag team named Doom. They were so good in WCW. This was the era of the Steiner's, the Road Warriors, the Wild Samoans the Twin Towers etc... Great era for tag team wrestling and Doom were dominant as a heel team.

I had the pleasure of meeting The Godfather “Charles Wright” at a baseball tournament recently in Arizona. He was walking with a cane, smiled and treated everyone who spoke to him kindly. After recognizing him, he smiled and shook my hand. I asked how he was doing, he said “I’m amazing brother. Would you like a picture?” Next to watching my son play baseball, meeting The Godfather made my weekend.

Obviously guys from each side had disagreements with guys from the other side from time to time, but they were not at war with each other or anything like that. Godfather Savio Yokozuna and Rikishi actually saved the click when a bunch of locals in Nova Scotia were trying to start a fight with them. The Cadillac came screeching up and those four men got out before the locals hightailed it out of there.

Simmons at FSU came in benching about 350 and graduated doing around 550. The average college offensive lineman was around 350. In the NFL with the Browns they moved him to LB from Nt as at 245 pounds he was handled by NFL linemen as his short arms that were great in weightlifting pressing movements were a detriment in getting off blocks in the NFL plus thise NFL guys were as strong. Unfortunately, he was not made for a LB and was soon out of the NFL 0:35 0:35

I worked a few cities as security for WCW in early-mid 2000 and met Stevie Ray and Ahmed when he went by Big-T. I'll say Ahmed came across as soft spoken, kind, friendly, and very approachable. Granted, I only met him once and talked for maybe 10 minutes tops......

Loved Ron Simmons with Butch Reed in Doom. Great tag team. I was 9 years old, and I was like "man, that's Ron Simmons under that mask!" . Wasn't anyone build like him. I truly thought WCW was gonna put the belt on JYD in late, late 80s, may have been 90. It was huge when he showed up. But, Simmons slamming Vader was truly epic! He deserved a run with the title. I remember him talking about the Sidewalk Slam and how that's something you really do in a fight. And that's true, if you're big enough. :D I'm sure he could do it better than most.

If the goal of life is to be as happy as possible, I think Godfather is a guy who you can say has succeeded in life. I mean how can he not be? He got a bunch of money flying around the world, hanging out with his buddies, and playing a role that meant he mostly just needed to come out with beautiful women, have fun with the crowd, wrestle for a couple minutes and head right on back to get his pay. Sounds like a formula for a fun life to me!

Will never forget the Texas street rules match , Doom against Arn Anderson and Barry Windom of the Horsemen. Those boys beat the living Hell out of each other. It was incredible.
