I listened to this with my father; inthe 1970s? early 1980's in/on a class A soundsystem (Technics) well as explained to me- a/b switching between, so as to be virtually class A. I was blown away. It was awesome. So completely freaky!!! It was a moment I cherish. My Pop had one of the few/limited boxes available in Canada/worldwide was my understanding. Pop was a fanatic about sound/specs. He knew the minutae, he cared about that sort of thing. His stereo was his pride and joy. I believe it afforded him an escape. To paraphrase Pinkfloyd; it left him "comfortably-numb". Finding this, man, I wish my father was alive today. U have given me... Well, U've made my day, my year, in fact. JFB, Jr.💙🤠🐕🐾

I understand all you say John. You were lucky your Dad had all this equipment. Obviously he was a hard core audiophile. I concentrated more on the turntable\cartridge combo. I spent $$$ on those. My idea was preservation. A crummy cartridge will eat the grooves. I still have my collection of LPs. As always our Dad's were a major influence on what we do and think. I wish I could have met yours. @@johnbeemer5358

It's great to hear someone your age be inspired by these guy. I was 18 when I fell in love with these guys almost 13 years ago now. Consequences and arguably even Song Cycle by Van Dyke Parks were landmark albums.

I listened to it at the time - that was long ago now. As others have commented this work was so far ahead of its time. Back in 76/77 there was little awareness of the impending global threat of climate change, species extinction and ‘green issues’ generally. The way the guys juxtaposed the impending threat with the everyday was also so relevant. Aside from the storyline as a musical/soundscape piece it still holds well.

It's 5 o'clock in the morning, Rosie, Lost weekend and Sailor are so beautiful. The whole Consequences concept was far ahead of its time. Peter Cooke's babbles are brilliant but wear out after a few plays, though. A lot of legendary pop artists from the 60s-70s are now in their 80s, or close, and still grooving-- why didn't G&C continue making music besides producing for others and crafting videophantasms? They were musicians in the first place, and they were SO good....

The story of this story is fabulous. I can't remember how I came across this as a teen in the 70s. I might have been hunting for something unusual in a used album store or one of my mail-order lists. I think I might have picked up their album "L" and wanted more. Yet another great band that never got the recognition deserved.

What a strange strange album. I used to see their album L in the cut out bins all the time - often not a good sign - but something about that cover kept nagging me to buy it and I was so glad I did. It was like prog rock but with a wicked sense of humor, often hard to find in Jon Anderson (don't yell at me. I love Yes) or Pink Floyd (them too). Then I was so excited to see the Consequences box set but alas it was too expensive for my teenage self. Then I read the reviews which were AWFUL ! One critic gave it an F minus minus or something. Young people reading this - don't ever listen to rock critics if such a thing even exists anymore. The only way to know for sure if an album is good is to hear it yourself. This is very different and a lot more abstract than L but it's just as wild and original and I love it. Thanks so much for uploading it !!

Listening to Andy Peebles (the DJ on the album), playing a side each night on Picadilly Radio 261, just as, or before it was released, what a memory. I listened to it on my single transistor radio earpiece every night. Glorious stuff. Soon after, I bought the vinyl box set from Yanks records in Manchester, very, very cheaply! I still own it and is the album I would rescue from a burning building. Impossible to explain, a true one of a kind. I just love it.

The editing alone makes this album a triumph. Imagine how many individual tape loops it took to create The Flood. No samplers no Pro Tools, and the genius of using a crackling fire keyed by the backing is beyond even Pepper and Pet Sounds. Martin Lawrence, I believe, is the son of Syd Lawrence. Grammys should have been showered on them like rice at a wedding.

This is amazing and it sparked something in my ageing brain so I went on a rummage in the loft and found a cassette tape titled History Mix ( vol 1 ) by Godley and Creme . Side one comprises of. Wet Rubber Soup . Which is a mix of Rubber Bullets, Minestrone and I'm Not In Love . This is followed by Cry . Side two is . Expanding The Business, The Dare You Man , Hum Drum Boys in Paris and Mountain Tension . A mix of Business is Business, How Dare You , This Sporting Life , The Dean and I , Dynamic Tension and Umbopo . The thing is I can only play it on our Classic Mini which has a tape player . I even saved the receipt for some reason ! The cost of this little gem back in 1986, £6.29 . Bargain 😁

Thank you for your work in the transfer and for posting. I bought this in 77 (huge 10CC fan) and I really liked it. (Sadly my box set got mislaid or lent? in the late 80’s) A difficult album for some and not all of it works for me, but the perfect example of the difference between music then and now. The innovation, production and songwriting was brilliant and they got to licence a short section for a rather expensive and famous cinema ad.

now rounds out my new playlist "Tales From The Rabbit Hole." i thought it the appropriate swan song. the list itself compiles music which i imagine would be in the Carrollian Wonderland. musical oddities "curiouser & curiouser" not bizarre enough for my lists exploring unlistenable music yet too unusually strange for lists trying to be accessible to popular tastes. this album was a great achievement in studio production, methinks. my recent listen on headphones was like hearing it for the first time almost. bloody amazing!

I just went to put this album on my iTunes account and every other album but this by G&C are available, what a bummer because I love this album and hadn’t heard it for about 35 years. Thanks for posting this on KZbin my friend it’s much appreciated.

It must be 30 years since I last heard this album, still brilliant after all this time, my parents and siblings all thought I was weird, but I know this is ground breaking stuff. Thank you for up loading this. I have digital versions of the rest of their work.

This was quite an amazing, interesting, and weirdest album I've explored. And I enjoyed it. It took me a while to get into this album. Very similar over what I went through with Captain Beefheart's Trout Mask Replica, ELO's Out of the Blue, and Magma's Mekanik Destruktiw Kommandoh. The reason I got into this album years ago because Steven Wilson is an admirer of this album as he mentioned it in the top 10 concept albums you should hear. He put it up there with Aphrodite's Child's 666, Wendy Carlos' Sonic Seasonings, Tom Newman's Faerie Symphony, Jon Anderson's Olias of Sunhillow, and Nektar's Journey to the Centre of the Eye. Thanks again.

My friend's uncle let him borrow it and a Marantz tube preamp to play it through, we damn near wore it out. Scary as heck artwork too. Saw 10CC at an arena about a year later, about 4000 in a 18000 seat venue, a bit sad.

First time listening, thanks for uploading this whoever you are. I was a fan of 10cc in the 70s, G&C I found more by accident as they didn't get much airplay, I think it was the "Under your thumb" tune that got my attention and I got the "Snack Attack" album on vinyl. Love it, something special about G&C that I like.

Ah yessss the member berries!! Thank you so much Sean!! Still have my original vinyl boxed away but sadly no record player just now so this is great for me. Played the whole thing to death back in the day and I know the boys have been a little disparaging about it (to say the least, eh Kev??) in latter days but it hit the spot with me back then and still does right now.

Hi Sean! I am still gobsmacked and in shock at how brilliant this sounds. I can tell you, it has been many, many years since l have listened to all of Consequences three times in a row. I must commend you on your prowess at tape baking, or if a third party did it. No matter. The time l had it done for me was in 1995 to rescue an American progressive album, originally pressed in a micro quantity, for rerelease on CD. Back then it was necessary, after the tapes were baked, to transfer them to an analog master. I am curious if you did this process as well, or transferred the baked tapes straight to digital. You might well imagine why l am asking....the results of your bake, even digitised, are out of this world. The possibility for a vinyl re-release from your bake is a pipe dream....but did you make an analog master from this, in case this were ever to be a possibility? And good God, my friend, this and the other treasures you are finding are making my year. The podcast episode where you played some long-lost tracks to GG was golden. I bet you guys had no idea your podcast would lead to all of this...it is so much fun to experience all of this vicariously through you. And l will never be able to adequately thank you for this "restored" Consequences. Maybe there are rewards in life, after all....?

Thank you so, so much Geoff! Yes I baked all of these tapes myself and transferred them straight to digital at 48k 24bit.

@@smacreavy That's amazing man. You have balls of steel doing that, l would have been scared to death. Thank God you didn't overbake them. Hats off again, my friend. This is the treat of a lifetime for me. I steadfastly agree that it is the best album ever made, and still proudly wear the "Blint 17" American baseball shirt that l made about 20 years ago 😜

What ever happened to Lol Cremes prototype Gizmotron? When was the last time he used it? Someone in the comments told me they last used it on the Birds of Prey album 1983 and the Single Golden Boy”. Kevin Godley said it was forts used on the Hotlegs album 1971.?

I was a Stateside 10cc fan since Original Soundtrack and quickly collected the back catalogue. My favorite 10cc album is How Dare You. I purchased Consequences straight off and championed it among my musician friends. In 1978, I recorded some Consequences tracks to reel, which we played as pre-concert music before a show my band was headlining. Currently, I own a sealed US pressing, a British import and CD version. Consequences, for any of its 'faults' and embellishments, is a creative classic. The gifted palette and humanity of the set is vast, infused with progressive, rock, classical, showtune, experimental (of course), world, jazz and pop(ular) formats, a variety of influences, I like that. The lyrical tracks stand up to and beyond the Godley & Creme 10cc catalog, 5 o'clock, Things Go Wrong, Cool, Please, Rosie, Sailor and the brilliant, Lost Weekend. What an offering! Combine this with the artwork and storyline of the package and certainly the immeasurable talents of Peter Cook, dripping with minute lingual detail, how could any discerning listener not sit content, feast and, at the least, appreciate the effort, sans the result. Thank you for 'watching the wheels' on this. I need to get the masters mix on some 'real' speaker cabs. Play on, Mr. Blint! Blessings and Cheers, Sean!
