This song always sticks with me due to the video accompanying it. For whatever reason, way back in the 80s, I was a kid in a local electronics store in the UK (probably Dixons or similar) where they were showcasing the "latest" Laser Disc players, and one of the setups had this playing on a loop. I remember being mesmerised by the (at the time) amazing crystal-clear picture quality and the seamless transitions between the faces, not to mention the song itself was very captivating. It's stuck with me for 40 years at this point. Something very haunting, yet fascinating about the melody and visuals. Brilliant.

I've always loved this song and remember how impressive the long sequence of carful iris wipes and spot dissolves was back in the mid 80s. On a bit of a nostalgia trip, I just realized that the last guy to say, "Cry!" is the front man from the Buggles and founding member of Art of Noise, Trevor Horn. A little googling tells me he was actually the producer for the song, along with lots of other great 80s bands!

Came here via 'Professor of Rock - My Top 5 80s Hidden Gems That Were One Hit Wonders' - it's his #1 - rightfully so (I guess there are many more though...), also because of the video, which was mesmerizing - and he mentions Horn - forgot he was in The Bugles and Art of Noise - great bands too! Rewatching the video after decades (having it seen 'endlessly', as MTV just started in Europe), I remembered most of the faces - the girl at 1:54 being gorgeous!

@@ibubezi7685 Godley and Creme also directed & produced a bunch of the more visually creative music videos for other popular bands of the 80s, like the Police - Wrapped Around Your Finger, Wang Chung - Everybody Have Fun, and Duran Duran's hit Girls on Film, with the peculiar theme of sumo wrestling. Wonderfully creative guys, G&C; sort of a strange blend between The Residents and Simple Minds.

@@fxm5715 They made this video and enjoyed it so much and felt they could not continue writing (after such a hit), that they focused on video-producing, as this video attracted a lot of fellow artists - resulting in the successes you mention. Kinda lucky stroke (and deservedly so!).

Einfach herrlich dieser Song . Erinnert mich an eine tolle Mopedzeit und meine erste feste Freundin. Einfach großartig die Zeit in den achtzigern . So was kommt leider nicht zurück . Doch die Erinnerungen bleiben . ( Gott sei Dank). MFG Thomas Wagner
