There will be MUCH more 3D games when Godot 4 will come out of Beta ;-)
@glueckssilben2 жыл бұрын
@@igorthelight there will be some very impressive and successful games. Developer adaption is slow. Now, we have some 2D games that are presented everyday on KZbin. So, Devs start adapting Godot for 2D. I think that massive market shares are possible. But, it will still take some years. With Godot 4, there will be first very impressive 3D games. Some will be very successful. Then developers will start adapting. Of course, there are highly skilled individuals who don't have to wait for others to demonstrate that a technology can be used for business success. And of course, many of them are euphoric about Open Source. But, for the majority of teams, adaption takes only place once others have demonstrated it (and gained a competitive advantage).
@igorthelight2 жыл бұрын
@@glueckssilben Agree! But Unity will still be dominant just because of it's Unity Store. Godot Store is free so not much reason to post something there (for most people). But it's ok for me ;-) Actually, I prefer small communities. It's just have to be big enough so some youtubers would make new tutorials and enough people would like to support/contribute to it (codebase). So: tutorials, contributors and Patreon support :-) And Godot already have all of that. 4.0 will make it viable for a modern 3D games.

So happy to see my game next to all these amazing games! Now that Unity is doing another dumb greed debacle, devs on twitter seem more eager to consider other options like Godot, especially considering all the big improvements that have been made in the past year apparently. I'm a unity dev looking to learn Godot. After blender started out as garbage and became the galaxy tier free open source option for modeling and animation, I'll bet on an open source game engine any day, since they are doomed to slowly improve, unlike many corporate products, which are doomed to slowly decay... like Unity.
@WurstRELOADED2 жыл бұрын
Other comments are focussing on how the games look great, which is true, but I really appreciate the work that went into this trailer to improve over last year. A bunch of small things, like removing the Godot opening title, more agressive music, faster cuts, the order of games shown, and more. All together, it really feels more professional and like a video that doesn't just tell me "Here's a tech demo for our engine" but rather "Here is something for you to be excited about!"

@@hawshimagical For example?: Red Hat's new rule: Open source betrayal? Red Hat rivals and many open-source developers are mad as hell about the company's new source code policy. Will this dispute end up in the courts? Written by Steven Vaughan-Nichols, Senior Contributing Editor on July 3, 2023 It all began with an unassuming blog post, "Furthering the evolution of CentOS Stream," by Mike McGrath, Red Hat's vice president of Core Platforms. For the non-Hatters among you, Core Platforms is the division in charge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). In the post, McGrath wrote, "CentOS Stream will now be the sole repository for public RHEL-related source code releases. For Red Hat customers and partners, source code will remain available via the Red Hat Customer Portal." Then all hell broke loose in RHEL clone distro circles and among Linux and open-source developers. The problem now facing RHEL clone distributors -- like AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, and Oracle Unbreakable Linux -- is that they can no longer easily create RHEL-compatible operating systems. That's because CentOS Stream, as the RHEL upstream distro, is not compatible with shipping RHEL.Rather, CentOS Stream is the forthcoming version of RHEL. As such, this RHEL beta is neither perfectly compatible with shipping RHEL nor is it as stable.

This is cool. I am excited. I just downloaded Godot. I am brand new at game design. So I aim for something basic. Maybe there can be an RPG, and I make visuals in Photoshop. I am really excited about the import pictures feature. For starters, I can just make characters do basic attacks when fighting. With practice, I hope to add more attacks along with classes and attributes. That can grow into a proper RPG. That genre is my thing. DND, heck yeah! I was choosing between Unreal and Unity. Unity is more beginner friendly but the graphics aren't as good. It is a tradeoff. Both programs have incredible graphics. That is way better than I am used to playing. So I was going to use Unity. Then suddenly there was a big scandal. Unity had a more expensive monetization, or something like that. So I switch to getting Godot instead. My school switched over. I am pleased with the reel of Godot. The 2D games look very decent. I can definitely roll with that. I am most familiar with Nintendo handheld consoles. Pokemon is another awesome RPG. So I played the games on the consoles. The 2D footage in this video is like footage on Gameboy Advanced and Nintendo DS. The latter was the last console to come out before they went 3D. The most advanced was Pokemon Black and White. That was the only one to have fully animated sprites of the Pokemon. Even when they idled, they moved. It seems that Godot may have the best that 2D pixels can offer. I hope I can import any image, and they work. I am excited to try out Godot.
