In this video I discuss the comparisons between the new Godox V1 vs. V860II. Under Flashpoint this would be R2 Zoom Li-on X vs R2 Zoom Li-on TTL. Many were expecting this to be an upgrade in terms of light output, however they are extremely close. The V1 has a slightly faster recycle speed. The V1 has a significant advantage in light quality, which is important for direct modifiers such as grids, snoots, and even shoot through umbrellas. In bounce modifiers it is unlikely that you will noitce any difference.
My entire kit of gear : kit.co/robhallphoto
Godox V1 (Zoom Li-on X) : bit.ly/RhlionX
Godox V860II (Zoom Li-on TTL) : bit.ly/zoomr2ttl
AK-R1 Magnetic Modifier kit : bit.ly/RHAKR1
The V1 also has an advantage with the available AK-R1 magnetic modifier kit. This is a great alternative to the Magmod modifiers.
My favorite improvement on the Godox V1 is the speed of control when using as a master for other off camera godox lighting. Everything about the V1 is a touch faster in terms of control, most notably navigating between off camera flashes and changing their mode and power.
I will be comparing the Godox V1 to the Profoto A1 very soon, so keep an eye out for that video.

I don't think it's possible on the V860ii. The reason it works on the V1 is the D-pad adds 4 control buttons. So you can move functions from the row to the D-pad, which frees up the home row to be assigned to groups.

Hey Rob, great job on all your vids!!! Out of curiosity, would you be able to make a video comparison of the both Godox V1 and the V860II but with the AK-R1 accessories with the Sr-1 attachment on the 860ii, if the power output is the same I'm just curious of the light pattern of the V860II with the AK-R1 accessories. Questions: (1) Have you noticed a different color temperature from the v860mk 2 vs the V1? I'm comparing the Flashpoint versions in my home and the V1 looks a bit warm or even green compared to the v860mk 2. (2) Durability of the plastic hotshoe insert? My Nikon flashes - though much less flexible in practice - nonetheless have metal hotshoe inserts and go smoothly into Nikons. Both the V860mk2 and the V1 have plastic inserts and I struggle to insert them into my Sony A73 or A7R3. Thanks so much for your excellent Flashpoint/Godox reviews!

How quick is it to turn on that AD200 and then turn off the flash on my camera to transition to these portraits?

That would be what I said was greatly improved. Now that each group has an independent selection buttion, and automatically advances modes with subsequent presses it's so much faster and more intuitive to change lighting setups as a master. @robhallphoto

Nope. H200R is a barebulb in a reflector through heavy diffusion. V1 is a flash tube through a fresnel head, which is why the light pattern is so impressive

Godox released an adapter to let the V860ii use the magnetic accessories. Wonder the dome type diffuser will change the shape of the light pattern like the V1?
@robhallphoto
@robhallphoto 5 жыл бұрын
Don't think it'll be anything like the V1. The V1's light pattern is incredible because of it's starting point, it's fresnel, how it's tube is positioned, however the surrounding reflector is. The V860ii is nothing like that, and it shows on the pattern, so the modifiers won't make it look like the V1. Somewhere in between, sure, but I don't think it would be close.

Guide number isn’t worth paying attention to. It’s flawed by hotspots and ignoring area of light coverage. And there is no standard for its concentration, so sometimes a speedlight is zoomed in all the way to increase the value, other times they are left as wide as possible.

Great consistent content as usual Robert Hall! This product seems like a lot of hype imho. The evolution of the small OCF flash is the AD200 before its existence the "strobist" community hacked the hot shoe flashes to work as OCF. The V1 has a hot shoe which suggest on camera use [puts on internet flame shield before people try to educate me on ways to mount a hot shoe flash on stands etc] That being said, on camera flash will typically be used to bounce light off walls and ceilings so the magnetic accessories are not a huge deal [flame suit still on] yes, the flag and gels would be nice but this just just seems like a step backwards, a solution looking for a problem. And like @elliot stern mentioned the v860 adapter is an inexpensive solution for those wanting the magnetic accessory kit.

Posted it because Robert around 6:30 min in the video above said that with V860II you can't use AK-R1 and you have to use Magmod or likes - well now you can with S-R1. I thought that maybe Robert forgot about this option or maybe he missed the anouncement of this adapter. PS Thats what I love about Godox and their user friendly bussiness strategy - that is not the case with ''big brands'' - they rather dont do the new stuff backward compatible with their older equipment but trying to make you buy into new system spending even more money with them. The price of the adapter is also sweet - 6 or 7 $ on amazon :) if that was magmod adapter it would be more like 60 or 70 $... Regards.

V1 AF assist beam works fine with Sony. Most people that say it doesn't work just don't understand everything necessary for AF assist to function. Correction for your statement starting at 6:24: The Godox S-R1 adapter ring ($7) for the v860ii/tt685/etc. allows you to use the exact same AK-R1 round head magnetic accessories as you can use with the V1 and the AD200 round head. I'm eyeing this in order to use a tt685 to light up a backdrop, but I'm still on the fence regarding this vs. the cheaper non-magnetic rogue flash grid/gel product and vs. the more expensive Magmod setup. As you mention in another video, the snoot in this Godox accessories kit seems useless and Godox is offering a limited range of colors.

Did you try the 860ii and ever experienced such issues?
@davidrobertnewman
@davidrobertnewman 4 жыл бұрын
Vincent Black The V1 makes a more solid connection than the V860ii in my experience. I think that’s due to a slightly thicker shoe and also the circular lock on the V1. The only misfires or underpowered fire problems I’ve had were off camera and that was due to using rechargeable batteries in the transmitter, not alkaline batteries. With the V860ii I’ve found it helpful to really screw down the connector tight, but both the shoe and Sony’s shoe are pretty crummy designs. I wonder why the 860 II is still out on the market after they came out with the 860 III . The jaded side of me wonders if it is just to inflate the price of the 860 III by keeping a step there as it has seemingly become the replacement of the 860 II?
@robhallphoto
@robhallphoto Жыл бұрын
Honestly this could be asked of 1/3 their products. QTII series has no purpose anymore. AD200. Over 8 speedlight models in production. The DPIII, DPIV, MS, MSV, SKII, SKIIV, E series represent 18 lights. that are all budget, variable voltage, AC strobes. This behavior becomes even more absurd when you look at the amount of LED they offer. So I have less of a jaded feeling about it considering most of their products that have had an upgrade released haven't changed the prices, or stopped in production. If I were Godox, I would have slimmed my offerings in flash and LED by about 50-60% by now just to simplify production, but that's just not their approach.

Please also try the "Over heat" situation, does it have over heat protection/problem? How many consecutive full power flashes does it get into over heat? Thanks so much!!!!!! Please also tell Godox to add an option to choose between 1/10 and 1/3 increment when using the dial, either 1/10 or 1 full stop is a bit...troublesome sometimes. And one problem I found was that, when changing the flash mode from M -> Master -> M, it's not going to end up at M mode but TTL mode. V1 (and also V860II) doesn't remember the initial setting (M mode, power, zoom etc.) after recycling the modes, it resets everything. It's annoying to a lot of photographers use M mode only, as you need to set the mode & zoom again and again.

Hello I have the V 1 for Canon et hss mode at 1/1 power go 14 flash then overheat protection starts. But turn the flash on and off then go again 14 flash. You can do that 5 times and the flasch gets hot. That's 85 flasch in total und then better to wait 10 Min. Greetings from Germany Bernard

Igor Igrek tried it on the fresnel head of the Ad200 Igor and it fit just fine. Remember however that the bulb pattern in the Ad200 round head itself is different than the fresnel head. I do prefer the round head for the Ad200 personally.

It looks like the V1 is recycling a little bit faster than the V860II. Also, I find it a little bit annoying they could not use the same battery as the V860. Now I have another charger to put in the drawer at home.

Honestly, for ~1.5x the price for the V1 compared to the V860ii, given that you have to throw a mod anyways (i.e. mag mod for max portability or umbrella/soft boxes/octa/strips/reflectors/grids), I don't think it's a good deal other than for a quick, low-power fill light

I disagree, i'd pay 2x the price just for the improvements to the UI, with how much faster it is to control multiple lights off camera.

Have you seen the response? Profoto never even addressed it with Godox, Profoto just went straight to the distributors. Problem is, people are buying Godox way more than people are buying Profoto right now so nobody really took the bait. From my experience with the A1, I don't think the V1 is getting stopped.

Every site has it for pre-order now, and if will be shipping in a few weeks. The delays were nothing to do with profoto, and were just to change the LED's and AF beam, from the pre-production model

Lol it's so funny that anyone says this is a lot when it's still less than half the price of a first party option. If it's too much stick with the V860ii. It's an improvement over the V860ii, so it of course has to be more money. (Not to mention the V860ii is so popular because it's the best value speedlight on the market, so this being a little more money than it isn't saying much. Comparing it to an AD200 doesn't make sense, they don't serve the same purpose. The AD200 can't function as a master, this can. That's who this product serves.
